  1. Good stuff! I feel like this theory is basically confirmed at this point.
  2. This system does sound somewhat plausible, but it also feels like a bit redundant when Scadrial already has working combustion and steam powered engines. To me, it sounds a bit like saying 'why not take everyone that's unemployed and have them ride bikes for 10 hours to generate electricity?' It works as an idea, but I feel it'd be tricky to convince people to take it up as regular job. Adding in the fact that Ferrings aren't terribly common, not to mention the sheer size of the engine that you'd need (as the pistons would have to be big enough for people to stand or sit on), and I feel that the idea isn't feasible on a large industrial scale Now, could you take that magical mechanic and apply it to machines through something like the medallions? Absolutely. For me, the hardest part of this isn't the magic, it's the people themselves.
  3. Okay! Some more questions then. What would be your favourite movie/ movies? Do you have a favourite animal, or type of animal? Of the four, which season do you prefer? Which Cosmere character do you feel you'd get along well with? Favourite childhood toy? Other than books, do you have any large collections? Excluding the cosmere, what topic could you give a 30 minute presentation on with no prior preparation?
  4. Old English, I would say. Depends on what's closest, honestly. Woolies for the moment, but have shopped at both. Who doesn't? Too much asymmetry for me to wear, but no issues if someone else wears them. Hmm, I'd have to think on that! Most of the ones I've seen have been at least plausible... have you heard many bad ones? Yep! And some chewing gum, if needed. Hard question for sure. I think it depends on the genre and what I'm in the mood for. Thor Ragnorak and the original Iron Man are up there; so is Avatar (including the new one - really enjoyed it), Knives Out and the Sherlock Holmes movies. Really enjoy the old Speed Racer and Pirates of the Caribbean films as well - just good fun. However, if I had to pick only one movie, I'd have to choose About Time. It's got a lot of heart, comedy and even some magic, but there's a lot of genuine life advice and it's got some emotional gut punches mixed in as well. What about yourself?
  5. The Scadrian equivalent of the Bronze Age would've made raids against the early Terris people quite difficult, causing other tribes to stay away from them, which may have contributed to the Terris becoming more insular over time. At least one Scadrian culture or community, after someone has passed away, told them to 'Rust in Peace'. Alendi's father, the blacksmith, was named Doug.
  6. As far as I understand it, each Shard has access to an infinite amount of Investiture, as they draw power from the Spiritual Realm, which is infinite (as far as we understand) as all Investiture eventually returns there. However, there is a finite amount that a Vessel can command at any one time, which is what prevents one Shard from accessing all Investiture at once and basically becoming Adonalsium. So Preservation doesn't have less Investiture than Ruin, but the Shard has placed some of that finite access into the humans they created, causing them to tend towards preserving more than ruining. So you would be correct - if a Shard made everyone on Scadrial a Mistborn it would weaken them somewhat. Exporting Stormlight though would not weaken Honor as the Spiritual Realm exists everywhere (though considering that specific Shard's been splintered, it wouldn't make much difference). The real kicker is that, even the finite power that a Shard is able to access, is capable of doing things like moving planets, creating and destroying geography and environments and maintaining magic systems (in Roshar's case) for thousands of years. It's such a massive well of power for any civilization to drain. It's kind of like wondering if humanity will ever get to the point where we use up all the energy within the universe. Theoretically it's possible, but is it plausible? Also, there's a difference between using Investiture and a Shard assigning Investiture. When Investiture is accessed and 'burned', it will eventually return to the Spiritual Realm to be used again. Even people who have Hemalurgic spikes will eventually die (in most cases - looking at you Marsh ) and whatever Investiture they had within them goes back into the Spiritual Realm. To answer that specific Hemalurgic question, it would still be Preservation powering the magic as far as I understand it, because you've essentially stabbed the Allomancer part of someone's soul onto yourself, making you an Allomancer. Ruin's power is drawn upon to cause that tear within the spiritweb itself. I could be wrong with this interpretation though, and welcome any critique. Hope that helps a little!
  7. Discovered Sanderson at a month long school camp. I'd brought along some books to read since there wasn't any phones or wifi service (we were right out in the bush). I finished my last one with a week and a half to spare, so a friend of mine gave me The Final Empire to read. I devoured it, then borrowed Steelheart from the school library when we got back (was the only Brandon book they had at the time. Followed that with Firefight, then the rest of Mistborn Era 1, and the rest is history Blue. Specifically RGB 0,57,94. Thongs, for sure. Well, I'll be biased and say QLD. Lived there pretty much all my life, though have been to Victoria a few times. Have a mate who moved to Melbourne who says he loves the vibes in the suburb he lives in, so I'll say that. Though, the fact that Victoria has some snow-capped mountains is pretty nifty too! In part. I've gotten some friends into Mistborn and Warbreaker, but none have delved super deep into the Cosmerlogical depths. All of them except Skyward Flight and the White Sand Graphic novels - waiting for the Omnibus to get through those. I love musicals, but haven't seen all that many to be honest. Not in the apartment I currently live in, but my parents have one. Ooh, now that's a rough one! I'd have to say Lightsong, as I feel he'd have some interesting perspectives to offer, but it's close. I really like Llarimar and feel we'd get on as well. Not as much as I once did, but I'll have it on occasion. Depends on the brand of donut. Woolies bakery ones? I'd be able to get through 24, I reckon. Krispy Kreme? 12 at best. Hmm, does Skulduggery Pleasant count? It's not really fantasy though; maybe not even middle grade. If not, then the Leviathan Trilogy, though that's steampunk and about WW1, so maybe that doesn't count either. If neither of those two, then it's an even race between Ranger's Apprentice, Harry Potter and Rowen of Rin. Possums. Wombats are pretty great, but Possums have the cutest eyes in the world. Sausage rolls, because meat pies tend to be set at the temperature of lava within. Still don't dislike them, but have had more pleasant sausage roll experiences. Plus Bunnings snags are technically sausage rolls so... And who can say no to more questions! Thank you very much for the list so far
  8. G'day everyone! Hope that you're doing well. These AMA's seem quite fun, so I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring! Ask me anything you feel like! Will answer to the best of my ability. Thanks for stopping by!
  9. Halt is one of the best mentors in all of fiction, in my opinion. He's so good at his job that I reckon near enough everyone wanted to become a ranger themselves after reading those books. I have very fond memories of sneaking around my backyard, trying to be as quiet as possible. But you are correct - there's very few weak characters there. Gilan's another favourite of mine; the Ranger with a sword. How cool. I think people pretend they aren't real simply because of how terrifying they can be. If tourist really knew, then no one would visit! But at camp?! Would've caused a lot of excitement, no doubt! Ah, good to know you're a woman of culture. Shock horror indeed! Oh yes, those are fantastic! I'm a white chocolate man, myself; just not too many in one setting. And yes, original are very top-tier. Milo's one of those funny things, hey? You either drink it by the tin or buy it once and have it sit in the cupboard for a decade. No need for ostracization though! You can have a slam with just about any warm beverage you like. The Cadbury drinking chocolate and a nice coffee are my go to's. What lovely answers, thank you! These AMA's are quite fun.
  10. I think this is the best way of looking at. Even if they can use a brassmind to store the heat that they're feeling, the air resistance itself would act as a limiter to their acceleration. That still leaves a lot of room for insanely quick speed though; even speeding up reactions to twice or thrice that of a normal human would give you a huge advantage in combat.
  11. Have tried to compile some interesting questions to overcome the boredom Who's your favourite Ranger's Apprentice character and why is it Halt? My mate had a run in with a drop bear yesterday. How many do you reckon you've seen over the years? Buttered toast with Vegemite, or just plain Vegemite? Or Promite perhaps? Has your father ever tied down a Ute and NOT said 'That's not going anywhere'? Which TimTam flavour is superior to all others?
  12. Ooh, that's a lovely theory!
  13. That's a great question! I'd imagine it's more of the later - it likely has something to do with the Excisor tool that we hear about. My best guess is that an Excisor acts a bit like Raysium, able to transfer forms of Investiture from one location to another. Maybe they transfer someone's ability to utilize Investiture directly into a nicrosilmind; the only metal that can store the ability to access it.
  14. I figured it out about mid-way through, though to be fair I initially thought that Huck was a familiar of Charlie; as in, the Sorceress had trapped his mind/ innate Investiture into a rat, but was still holding onto his body. Wasn't until the reveal when I realized it was a full body transformation.
  15. That actually makes a sort of sense if Autonomy Awakened them directly. Her Intent would be all through their 'programming', making them want to act more autonomous. Whereas the burnished brass men that Riina Awakened were created with a much firmer Intent - protect her tower.
  16. Yep. There's a very good reason why Brandon limited it to only four Bondsmiths max; the three spren and the Honorblade. Imagine having a full on army of them...would be pretty nuts.
  17. I don't think there was anything mentioned that you would've missed. The simple answer is that we don't know. However, based on the Secret Project 3 preview, we do know the following: The above is guesswork on my part though...
  18. Having seen the soldiers the Sorceress in Tress utilize, I feel we have a pretty concrete idea of what Autonomy's army of golden men are; they're Awakened constructs. In the Lost Metal, the army is described as statuesque, with golden skin. The Sorceress' soldiers are described as having burnished brass skin, and they stand unnaturally still until they have to obey their instructions. As per the below WOB, we also know that they utilize a known magic system. Now, this probably isn't a new theory, but I noticed the similarities and thought it worth mentioning.
  19. Yeah, it's pretty wicked once you have a mastery of the Aons. Because it's basically utilizing the raw power of two Shards, and 'programming' reality itself. As we see, even Hoid's not immune to at least some of it's effects. Will be so wicked once we see it start to clash with other raw-power type magic systems, like Surgebinding.
