I feel there is also another thing they ignored, the first WoB was saying it takes a lot of Investiture for very extreme changes, like changing an entire city or completely changing the material of an entire wall. While the lower-power Forgings are much smaller scale, and closer to the current form and its history, the easier it is (kinda like some form of the Law of BioChromatic Parallelism).

Another F-Iron question but with awakening?
Firesong replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Because the idea of throwing a person, and withstanding thousands of pounds of force, is pretty extreme. We aren't saying it can't aid people in other movements, it can. But what you are talking about is something in a completely separate ballpark. -
Another F-Iron question but with awakening?
Firesong replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I will note, one of the reasons F-iron changes speed for Wax is conservation of momentum, wherein mass times velocity stays the same unless more energy is added to the system. So mv = m1v1. This means that when he is in motion, pushing himself with steel, he would increase or decrease in velocity based on if he stores or taps. But it does make it harder to move in general if you increase by too much, yeah. And also, I don't think Awakened Clothes could be made to give strength normally, that would be a very weird use of Awakening, which outside of exceptional circumstances, cannot make something capable of something that is not something it could intrinsically do. Like, you cannot make a Human Lifeless fly with a Command. You could make a scarf generate heat by rubbing against itself, but you cannot just make it suddenly start producing heat. The main exception to this is just the capacity of independent movement at all. What Vasher did with his clothes was more like, he had them be another force to push off the ground. It didn't directly make him stronger. Iirc. Think spring boots. -
Yeah, thanks again. Was just making sure to calm myself down, because again, I am a very anxious and paranoid person. But I am not going to vent about that an a public forum, just my own personal issues.

Could be many things, I feel it is supposed to be a mystery to a degree. He could have used a power similar to Elsecalling to forcefully create a mini-Perpendicularity. or could have travelled on a spaceship. Those are essentially the only things we know about at this moment that could allow going to the Physical Realm of a planet that lacks a Perpendicularity. Maybe he found out how to return on his own with the Surge of Transformation, which allows one to go into the Cognitive Realm, but not return on his own. Hoid is smart and has a lot of different Invested Arts, so he probably could find some way they work together to let him return. But ultimately, we just have theories.

Wayne uses what for that a lot, it is actually a thing in real dialects. So, as Peter says, totally intentional.

Anyway, gonna have to be dropping from this conversation for now. I have a very unhealthy relationship with Cosmere that makes me irrationally upset at even small criticisms (I am not fuming or anything, I just find even irritation at this irrational. So please don't think I am irate.). It is a problem I have, and I don't want to become disrespectful at all. I have nothing against ya, just have issues and (sometimes) know when to step out before I do anything I regret. Hope to see ya again later. Just, look at what Treamayne is explaining about what all was going on, they are giving a really good overview and explanation. Bye.

Just press the quote button at the top, and copy paste what you want to quote into it. The quote system here isn't the absolute best. But I agree with what everyone else is saying, I feel you are misunderstanding a lot of things about it, and your confusions and issues are mainly rising from that. @Treamayne gave a good overview on everything.

On Rashek, he only had it for a very short time. The influence that Intent has on somebody is far more gradual, it slowly influences somebody and comes to limit and control them, rather than instantly doing so. And yeah, Preservation could do something if it meant keeping the status quo. But doing something that changes the status quo is very difficult. And I feel part of why Rashek couldn't make more Constructs, is that he only had three ideas while he had access to the knowledge. After losing it, he could no longer accurately do it. New Hemalurgic Constructs are very difficult to make, so they tend to keep more to specific ones. That is my own personal theory on the matter.

Fair enough.

Spoiler tag that, please, not the right thread for mentioning that without spoilers.

Hey, I have a WoB I want to add to the Atium page about how the retcon is actually likely as old as 2009 This shows that the idea was actually there as old as 2009, with Peter saying he knows the answer. And we later learned that it is actually the truth. So, I feel we should add in that Refined Atium section about the Retcon actually being there for a while and not being as recent as people believe (that is, when it was revealed a year or so back). Would add it myself, but the page is still Keeper Only.

Ruin did try to use the Kandra, and they did the Resolution in response to it. Kandra are also more resistant to control due to only having two spikes, so it was more difficult (TenSoon was easier due to the fact he wanted to be controlled by Vin, as he didn't want to follow the other orders). But Ruin very much did try to control them. And in Foreseeing the possibility of his death, well, there are so many different possibilities, and he is actively not the best amongst the Shards. He was blinded by his thoughts about how Ruin was an inevitability, making his view of the future even more clouded. It is also very difficult to accurately predict the actions of other Vessels, so upon Vin taking up Preservation, he kinda couldn't predict her well anymore. Future Sight is difficult, we see it used in Stormlight, and it is basically an infinite fractal of possibilities, it isn't so easy to go through and find out what will happen. Preservation was just extremely good at it. Also, I don't recall Ruin teaching TLR how to create Inquisitors, iirc, that just came from the knowledge granted from the Well in how the Metallic Arts worked. Same with how he learned how he could create Kandra and Koloss. And how does it seem like plot convenience? It is pretty consistent in the Cosmere that over time people become completely consumed by the Intent to the point it can completely change their worldview and limit their actions. Like how Preservation became barely capable of doing anything that would create a change in the world, any actions against the intent of the status quo is very difficult and causes great pain to him. We see the same with other Shards as well, it is a very consistent part of the worldbuilding. And on what Elend did, he basically saw directly into the Spiritual Realm, bypassing the ordinary limits of Atium due to the exact manner in which he used it (And current theories is that that was the effect of pure Atium (the atium in the pits of Hathsin are impure, with a bit of Electrum, thats why the effects are so similar to electrum. This was done partially to leave it even further separated from Ruin)). So, that is why it became so good, he basically copied the manner in which Shards see the future, if only for a very brief moment. The reason they called it atium back then is due to them thinking it was pure atium. This change is talked about in WoBs, implied in Era 2, and also implied in the Metal Arts Table Posters. I am actually very excited to see it expanded upon in Era 3. It just makes so much sense and explains so much of Era 1 that didn't make full sense with what we knew about God Metals. Like how everyone would be able to burn a God Metal (this is why anybody could burn Lerasium, those Mistborn-creating Beads), but not everyone could burn Atium. (This retcon is actually very old, dates back to 2009. So it has been canon for a long time, From a 2009 post. So, while it is a retcon, it makes perfect sense in context and has been a thing for over a decade. Just was only confirmed a year or so back. Update, the idea was there, but Brandon was actually more on the fence for a while after this, so the idea was around in his team, but it was only definitely made canon more recently. )

One thing I do wonder is, how they would fly. Brandon has been intentionally looking towards physics for limitations, and thinking of how to bypass it. Maybe they can reduce their own weight, like the ecology of Torio. That would be able to get around the fact that they would have too much mass for that wingspan. Actually, I feel somebody should definitely ask Brandon about that.

How do I search for specific phrases
Firesong replied to KaladinWorldsinger's topic in Arcanum Discussion
What I always did was look up "God Beyond" and then do a Ctrl + F and search it again. And note, when you put words together like that, usually the first WoBs that appear are ones that deal with that specific combination. -
Yeah, true. But good thing there are backups. I assumed there would be, but my pessimism and paranoia definitely made me want to make sure for sure. Thanks. Kinda tempted to try and go through and transcript it all, but that would be an absolutely stupid amount of effort. It is difficult even transcription a bit of my personal worldbuilding notes, and that is far less than the total word count of all of Archanum, lol. At least I would presume.
-
This is just my paranoia acting up, but are there people keeping backups of Arcanum in case anything happens to the servers, like they get damaged or there is a solar flare or anything? I just worry as it contains a ton of information that could be easily lost, so I feel it would be smart to have backups.

More evidence on the idea of Odium combining with Honor, I feel. So, something is definitely happening with it at the end of Book Five. Definitely makes me excited.

What is a question you would ask for a WoB if you could?
Firesong replied to Walter The Moral's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We do actually have an answer for a few that didn't make the cut. Decay, Slaughter, and Despair. (Though Decay did make it in in a way, becoming Ruin.) -
I don't remember that in Tress or RoW, and in terms of WoBs So, I don't think we know. But I may have forgotten something. Edit: I did a word check for Fire in Tress, found nothing on Xisis breathing fire. So it is not shown in Tress.

I agree with Treamayne, that is definitely not Hangul. Just looks like a in-world script influenced from a mix of Korean and Japanese scripts (just like how Torio and Nagadan are based on a mix of Korea and Japan) Also, yeah, how did you get it already? While I am not calling you a liar, I want to believe you, this does feel a little suspicious.

Inserting IPA pronunciations of names.
Firesong replied to Walter The Moral's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
I don't think we should as their pronunciation isn't exactly accurate. We have a lot of detail on pronunciation for Arelene and Rosharan names (particularly Alethi and some Azish), and it doesn't really match with their readings. Their readings are mostly just their own interpretations. -
Updating Cosmere Template (SP3 Spoilers)
Firesong replied to Firesong's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
I know I am not a Keeper, but as an editor I want to give my views. I think it best to include planets based on two factors 1: Importance to a book (for the most part, the planet it takes place on. But for Roshar this of course includes Braize and Ashyn as well) 2: Importance to the cosmere (So, for instance, things like Yolen, which, despite not being important to any one book, is important to the cosmere at large) So if something fits 1 and not 2, like for instance, Lumar or First of the Sun, it would fit. If something fits 2 but not 1, it would fit. Like Yolen, for the biggest example. But if it doesn't fit either, like Obrodai or any of the planets described in the Archanum Unbounded Maps, it won't be included. So: Not too sure about Vax as we technically aren't even sure if it is a planet. Brandon has been very careful about what exactly it is. That is just my 2 cents on the matter.
