Ars Arcanum Typo? (Elantris Revised)
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to RShara's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
It is a poetic phrase, maybe they were being ironic as they are discussing "common letters" submitting before the "gods" of Aons? -
Are Forton's potions Invested?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to skaa's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
A little late to this thread, but I'd wager that something in his potion making resembles Svordish writing. It may be in the stirring patterns as others have noticed, but every magic system on Sel thus far is connected to the writing system of the local people. Aons = AonDor Fjordell = Dakhor bones Jindonese = Chayshan forms Maipon = Forging Svordish(?) should then = invested potions in some way. Great catch Skaa! -
The Splintercast Reads Shadows of Self, Episode 3: Chapters 7-9
Green Hoodie Mistborn commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
On the technology advancement front... I get it that Sazed has fallen into the trap of Preservation of stagnation, but there may be reasons that Harmony wants the northern Scadrians to develop allomantiaclly because he can see a reason for them to be off world at some point in the future sooner than they would already, and/or to be able to hold their own against southern Scadrians? On TLR - I thought one reason was that he could burn the invested Metalmind without swallowing them, as long as they at least pierced his skin- 19 comments

I do get the concern/desire for more Dox like characters who are amazing at what they do, integral to the plot/story, but at the same time just ordinary people with no magic... that said, I really like this idea and would love Aradel to be a firesoul
-
Allomantic pewter/Feruchemical gold with Feruchemical brass thrown in there to help me survive the freezing cold that I'd be moving to! Allomantic pewter just to fight better/longer and I may help my body heal enough to not be infected... plus all i have to do is go to my FLGS and grab all the old Pewter figurines that no one buys anymore and burn them! Feruchemical gold to help heal from any wounds like a Zombie bite. Plus as theorized in other threads, you might be able to store Allomantic pewter's excess healing/health in Feruchemical gold as a "compound lite"
-
Way more useful than that... You can survive freezing temperatures (arctic, north atlantic water, space) by tapping your metalmind. Theories are out there that would allow you to become semi-fireproof by storing heat as you walked through/touched flames.
-
While I do like the idea in the OP still, it might be true that Claude Aradel is just a Red Hairing...
-
A red head that constantly drinks hot things without noting their heat? I'll be shocked if he doesn't end up a Firesoul. Great idea!

How would you catch an allomantic assassin?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Voidus's topic in Mistborn
That is a solid circumstantial evidence case. My thought was more related to the "smoking gun" type evidence, DNA, Blood, finger prints. Those are much harder to achieve and given our current judicial climate, you'd have to have a basically air tight circumstantial case to convict without a shred of direct physical evidence. I'd imagine similar thoughts on Scadrial since they are supposed to somewhat mirror our world a bit. -
Investiture bestowed sentience
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Voidus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
On the Atium, I'd say that the individual beads just aren't significant enough amounts of investiture to be gain sentience. if they were larger, then maybe. How do we know that Elantris is Invested? It is a focus for the power of the Dor itself being an Aon, and there are many such smaller foci in the city with different Aon's drawn everywhere, but does the city itself actually retain any of that investiture? Even then though, the only investiture that we've seen that is truly sentient are Splinters, and we have a confirmed WoB that Atium is NOT a splinter of Ruin. As iBambam said too, I think it's the intent that makes the sentience and lack of other overriding consciousness. Ruin still controlled his intent and all his little bits too (since the beads weren't splintered off his power). As for the Gemhearts, they are just gems that grow inside of the greatshells. Until they are invested by the High Storms that is, and then they become a great repository for stormlight. In which per WoB: Is very similar state to the Atium. it is a leak of the Spiritual that is captured in another medium for a while. Gems storing stormlight vs. power stored as metal.- 28 replies

How would you catch an allomantic assassin?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Voidus's topic in Mistborn
outside of having a coinshot's finger prints or some other forensic tie it would be difficult. Even a Seeker who can identify a specific allomantic signature, if such a thing exists for a specific allomancer, is still a "my word against yours". While they may be called upon as a witness, they wouldn't be forensic evidence. Now, if allomancers and other users of investiture do give off specific signatures to their use of investiture, and that is detectable by a powerful/skilled enough bronze user, then it may be possible now or in the future for Southern Scadrian's Metal-tech to have a sensor or detector rig that can record investiture usage in an area and then you could with a warrant force a subject to burn their metal and record that usage. Kind of link matching shell casings for guns. -
Theory about Denth and Tonk Fah
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to afeastforgeorge's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Warbreaker was after Sazed's ascension as all the original Cosmere books were published in Cosmere wide chronological order. That said, we don't know exactly how long and the 5 scholars were around for something like 300 years before the events in Warbreaker. Plenty of time to worldhop and/or develop new powers with your existing investiture. There is a best we can Chronology on the Coppermind, and there was this thread about it a few years ago and a more recent one here, with a little more clarification here Maybe Lightsong couldn't move fast because he didn't think he should be able to, Intent plays a large part in how Returned appear, why now how fast they are? If I were a Returned, depended upon 1 breath and/or some other investiture per week to survive, I'd be wary of going to a planet where all the natural investiture is in people itself without a vast store of breaths... -
The Bands of Mourning chapter three discussion
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to ccstat's topic in Mistborn
The Southern Scadrians are not just from the "south", but from a wholly different continent that is south from what I remember. I suppose they could be large combined landmasses and still be separate continents like Europe/Asia, but for some reason I always assumed the southern continent was a wholly separate landmass (ala Australia) or mostly so like North/South America. We have vastly different languages even a few hundred miles apart in development. Why wouldn't the southern continent have developed a totally different script? Kandra were used by TLR in the northern continent... as the Southern Continent was his backup population. Though as his personal Kandra, maybe Paalm did spend some time down in the southern continent and that is where she learned of Trell and the foreign god/metal? -
Couple of Sel (Rose Empire) ones: "He's as firm as ralkalest" - talking about someone who is unchanging or stubborn Conversely, "they are like soulstone beneath my chisel." Couple of Nalthis... I could see "drab" being just a generally used derogatory term. "That's drab" to mean something that is boring, without vigor, weak, irritable. Also "grey" as something that is drained or empty. "My account is grey this week." or "The pot's gone grey".

This is a little Necro, but I asked for my personalization to the 10th Anniversary Edition if the Chayshan forms are related to written Jindoese and the answer was "Yes"

I like this topic... it's making me think! I'd think on Scadrial especially, the metallic arts would be come similes and metaphors for thought and writing. Other options: "Sitting with gold" to think about reflecting on your past. "He was putting food away like a subsumer on a bender" "She smoked him" to talk about helping someone disappear I'll think some on other worlds now too

Forced Splintering – Take 3 [SLA 3 Spoiler]
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
While it's an interesting theory, I don't think you need to drag Odium into the Dilaf story to explain it. Sidebar: He was an invested Gragdet of the Dakhor monestary standing next to an Elantrian trying to work their magic. In the same way the he disrupted the Illusion Aon, his mere presence probably prevented the Aon from completing, which trapped his wife in the state of incomplete healing. He was the ultimate author of her demise, not the Elantrians, which explains even more his deep seated hatred and intensity. Deep down, he knows it's his fault. Back OT: From a newer WoB, we know that Odium has Shardic allies. His method of splintering seems much more of a physical act to me than what you're describing. Hoid says in the Letter that it was Rayse's visit to Sel that lead to the Aona & Skai's death and splintering, not his sending hateful thoughts. I suppose you can argue that is semantics, but to me it seems like simplest explanation should apply here. "Odium Smash"TM is much more simple than, "Odium send long range telepathic subliminal messages that slowly corrupt thoughts on a world to the point that it disrupts other shard holder's ability to access their power, then Odium SmashTM". Not to say it couldn't be true, just doesn't seem that likely to me.- 4 replies

Leather-bound Edition of Elantris
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Mine came in the mail yesterday as well, I also love the Taiwan cover. I've often been a bigger fan of his UK covers over the US though too. it is a gorgeous edition and I'm looking forward to having each 10th anniversary edition some day!! -
I love it... And who's to say he IS in control? He thinks he is, sure. But maybe it's too much for him to handle and we've got a god with Multiple Personality Disorder? the WoB up there says "If he weren't able to control", it doesn't say "if he weren't able to control so well". To me that leaves room for him to say, "yes I said if he weren't able to... and he's not." SoS Spoiler-
