UA: Nalthis ignored?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to CaptainRyan's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I had a similar thought when I saw the ToC, that it seemed incomplete. Maybe not, but it'd be cool to have something bonus in there we don't know about yet among the existing cool stuff. -
UA: Nalthis ignored?

Plus keep in mind... There needs to be something left for Arcanum Unbound 2: Arcanum Rebounded! -
UA: Nalthis ignored?

As Khriss is the Ars Arcanum author, doesn't that mean by default she's been to Nalthis? -
Arcanum Unbounded: Worth It?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to GreyPilgrim's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@GreyPilgrim I feel what you're feeling. I own either physically, digitally, or both all the stories except Edgedancer and so I've questioned the worth of this to me and "is it a cash grab"? I don't think it is, because there IS new content besides just Edgedancer. The essays and the in universe cognitive realm map to me are worth it to me. I think there a number of fans out there who haven't wanted to spend $ on anthologies and other products just to get a short story here or there, and this is really for them. The added content are to make it appealing to people like me who already have the others. It will be nice to have Secret History and Hope of Elantris in physical copy. Everything else I have both physical and digital. To me it's worth it just to get teh maps and novella Edgedancer. Everything else is icing on the Cosmere-cake that this book will be! -

I'm pretty sure they mention 4 additional oaths after the 1st ideal which is shared by all orders. I'm kind of in the camp where the 5th ideal is what will grant Shardplate, but I dont' know what would come with 4 then... if 3 gives the blade. Maybe 4 gives you a Ryshadium somehow!?

wob Hoid's Magical Translation
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Argent's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well he got his bead of Lerasium in WoA, and we know he already uses Feruchemy to predict when he needs to be somewhere, so I'd be surprised if he wasn't using Feruchem connection magic to do it... but is he using medallions or did he truly gain Feruchemy some how... hmm. How did he do it before getting Feruchemy though? Maybe he learned the local Sel language or languages at some point? Maybe he met an Elantrian in the Cognitive and learned from him there... -
wob Hoid's Magical Translation
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Argent's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What is interesting to me is that Hoid is using a connection based magic to speak local languages, and it has to have been one to which he had access to prior to gaining Feruchemical abilities. He was able to speak natively to people on Sel when he was there... is there another magic system that might have/grant access to the connection type magic? -
A connection to Taravangian?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to The One Who Connects's topic in Stormlight Archive
It is still an interesting connection that the symbol in the corner of the map of Kharbranth seems very similar to the symbol in that position on the chart at the back end sheet, whether that chart ends up being void binding or fabrial sciencing or just a playful artists rendering of the surge binding chart! -
The Woman in Voidbinding Chart
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Sam Script's topic in Stormlight Archive
@blightsong Right, I thought this was understood to be something different than the Surgebinding chart... could still be Cultivation though -
The Sixteen Shards (but not really)
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to zeppomarks's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Fun, my only real problem is that Odium seems very "active" to me! -
Interesting sub-question... given Harmony's relative balance and inability to act due to the balance in his 2 Shard's intents... what 3rd shard would tip his ability/intents in a way favorable to the Cosmere while leaving him free to really utilize his power? Picking up Honor? Piecing together Devotion?

I see how you're interpreting this, but the sentence in the initial flashback you quoted doesn't have to imply a millennial old or even immortal KR. The sentence is two separate things and could be read like this: "Harkaylain is predicting a Desolation, and Harkaylain is not often wrong. Therefore his prediction is likely correct". They aren't necessarily tied together, one is evidence for the other. Harkaylain predicts many things and they are often right, so if he's predicting a desolation, it must be coming, not that Harkaylain has predicted Desolations before. I don't doubt that KR, so long as they are holding Stormlight, experience some benefits towards longevity/lifespan. Much the same way that on Nalthis, the more Breath you have, the closer to immortal you become, but like Nalthis, it's going to be the Stormlight granting the increased life, not the Nahel bond itself, just the investiture of Stormlight or Breaths. My guess, based on the amount of Investiture touted as being on Roshar vs other planets, that Stormlight can have dramatic effects on lifespan... if you can keep and hold enough of it over a long enough period of time.

I agree. To me there basically 3 options. Edgedancer spren, being mostly of Cultivations... Cultivate different apperances. Sly can appear differently, as wind or as a human form. Pattern doesn't seem to be able to appear with a human form and always slides along the ground. It could be that Edgedancer spren just naturally appear differently... therefore Glys wouldn't necessarily clue us into anything, but then why keep it secret? Wyndle is an Edgedancer Spren, Ym's was a Truthwatcher, and that explains their differences, and Glys matches one which tell us what is going on with Renarin specifically Glys' appearance isn't related to either and is a huge clue about something else and... well who knows but it is significant enough that we have to RAFO
-
Which is why what Glys looks like is VERY important, because we have (most probably) seen a Truthwatcher spren before in Ym's. Radiant (Illumination) with crystal growth (Regrowth). If Glys doesn't look like that, then... That would make me sad as well. I don't want Renarin to be an eventual betrayer (by binding a Void spren) to the family/Knights Radiant for power. It doesn't seem like his style, nor is it something I'd want to read.

Help convince a friend
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Samaldin's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You could try one of the novellas or short stories... wait until Arcanum unbound comes out and that might entice him to read some of the longer stuff. Or try out Emperor's Soul? None of the short stories or Emperor's Soul would really impact their enjoyment of other Cosmere works. I got a friend hooked on Sanderson through TFE, but they really didn't like Elantris when they read it either so I know that one is iffy. Warbreaker is a good one, stand alone, well written, etc. -
Total number of meaning has little to do with the 4 tones and all to do with the written character: 天 tiān 1 the sky; the heavens 添 tiān 1 add; increase 田 tián 1 field; farmland; cropland 甜 tián 1 sweet; honeyed I could go on with almost a dozen more, but OP I agree that sweet is probably the best assumption! Good catch!
-
It means a lot of things, also means Heaven, though for Kaladin's brother sweet is probably more apt
-
I'd love to see Lift stories animated! or maybe the Warbreaker sequel Nightblood as an animated movie or miniseries
-
That really depends on how Cosmere aware the reader is when they get there!
-
I enjoyed it, I like the fully realized world as opposed to having everything just in my own head! I like the change of Ais to a female character, even though we haven't gotten to see much of her yet. I'm not a huge fan of the artistic style, and there are some confusing portions of the book that I had to do some double takes to get. But I still like the novelty of it not being a novel this time. I'd love to have an animated SA archive or other medium for telling the Cosmere's stories.

I know we have a confirmed WoB already about this, but I love the subtle name dropping I just noticed in my read through of Volume 1! About 6 pages into Chapter 3 (frustrating since there are no page #'s!), at the bottom right page, Kenton is talking to the darksider party: Just one of those things that is nice world building to someone unaware of the Cosmere, but a great easter egg for those of us looking for tidbits!
