  1. Hello, welcome to the Shard!
  2. Yeah, I think I (slightly) prefer the book too, but the movie on its own is still great. And as an adaptation it's correct. It respected the characters well enough. I was disappointed by this one even though I read the books only after watching it. As a film on its own, it's unsatisfying, with things coming out of nowhere and sometimes never being explained while 15 minutes of the film could have been cut with no incidence. As an adaptation, it's nothing but a mishmash of various plot points taken from four different books, featuring characters barely resembling the book ones (except for Sparrowhawk, who isn't too bad) and a great lore being completely ignored (where are the islands?) It still has a great soundtrack, awesome visuals, and some pretty good scenes, but that doesn't redeem it for me.
  3. I suspect rather efficient word of ear. (Disclaimer: I'm not LDS and know no LDS member IRL so I might be completely wrong) Completely randomly, quite like Trutharchivist. Why do I remember the lyrics of that terrible song I haven't listened in years, but not that lesson I worked on yesterday and I'm currently doing a test on?
  4. Aaaaand now Kelsier's out to kill me.
  5. Granted. Everyone now has severe allergy to everything else: pollen, dog and cat hair... I wish for all allergies to disappear
  6. *hides the pile of books behind something* No, not at all. TPBM is surprised by the fact that they have a school restaurant with actually good food this year
  7. 19.Tales from Earthsea 18.The Cat Returns 17.Arrietty 16.The Tale of Princess Kaguya 15.From Up on Poppy Hill 14.The Wind Rises 13.The Castle of Cagliostro (first movie Miyazaki directed, before Ghibli) 12.Ponyo 11.Kiki's Delivery Service 10.Red Turtle (collab with French studios Wild Bunch and Why Not) 9.Whisper of the Heart 8.Porco Rosso 7.When Marnie was There 6.Pom Poko 5.My Neighbour Totoro 4.Castle in the Sky 3.Howl's Moving Castle 2.Spirited Away 1.Princess Mononoke Mononoke is pretty much locked, as are the last 3, but all the other ones could easily move up or down by A LOT. And honestly, those movies are all so good that I would agree with any ranking (unless you tell me Earthsea is better than Spirited Away). I enjoy all of them except the last 2, and they are all great from Ponyo up. I have not forgotten Nausicaa! I just haven't watched it yet. I haven't seen Grave of the Fireflies either. (Given how I seem to enjoy being destroyed emotionnally by media, I would be surprised if that one wasn't top 5 for me). I haven't seen Earwig too. That would be for the better, apparently.
  8. Rick is releasing a new co-authored book in the Percyverse! https://rickriordan.com/book/the-sun-and-the-star/ It is set post-Trials, and the summary has major spoilers for it. It follows It's out in May 2023
  9. What is this huge green thing out there? An alien spaceship? A colony of mortal bacteria ? I don't think anyone ever expected that.
  10. People writing songs
  11. People talking without speaking
  12. I almost never cry when reading, I don't know why. But several scenes in all of SA got me close. Also the HoA ending. I have also come close when reading the Malazan books (especially 2 and 3; I haven't read beyond 3 for now). The end of Return of the King, too. And of course, there is a book that destroyed me even more.
  13. Tbh that cat is so cute, you would forgive them almost anything.
  14. And in the naked light I saw

  16. Welcome to the Shard!
  17. Granted. You now look like a Minecraft skin IRL. I wish to be able to slow and accelerate time. Like speed bubbles in Mistborn but in both ways and without needing tons of rare and unfindable metals.
  18. I just reached 42 posts! Well, 43 now. Unless you count the way-too-many messages in forum games. So I thought this was the best time to start an AMA! You can ask me anything, and I will try to answer in less than 7.5 million years.
  19. 504a. If you are the good guy, do not trust neither rely on the general population, even if they support you. No matter how just is your cause, those people can get brainwashed by the dark lord and turn their cloaks against you in no time. 504b. If you are the bad guy, do not trust neither rely on the general population, even if they support you. No matter how much you brainwashed them, those people can rally to the just cause of some hero and turn their cloaks against you in no time.
  20. I just went from Ardent to Crew Leader. In other words, I was Zahel and I became Camon. Great.
  21. I don't know what an aarakocra is, but it sounds cool. 7/10
  22. Yes! It's your turn if you want it.
