  1. Bookwyrm winced as he was slammed back into the wall. Okay, I guess we're doing this the hard way. He dove forward, magically shielding himself from any further outbursts. Then he quickly pressed his fingers to Thaidakar's temples and threw himself into his mind.
  2. Well, snuff. No use trying to convince him... Bookwyrm eyed the strange bird. "Not helping."
  3. Bookwyrm winced at the piercing mantra, and blocked off the connection. Ooookay. Something is very wrong. Bookwyrm reached Thaidakar's room, found the door torn open and discarded, found the room in tatters, found Thaid in the middle of it all.
  4. I don't know if it would be a good idea to meet back up with me. Something's wrong. Just let me take care of it.
  5. "Knew Calano...wait." Bookwyrm reached out with his mind, virtually re-tracing the familiar outlay of the Clinic. He felt an unnerving darkness flooding from a very familiar room number. A presence stood in the source of the darkness. A familiar mind. A hero, a friend. Thaidakar. Bookwyrm set off in a run, leaving Sunny and Insa behind. @InfiniteInsanity @Thaidakar the Ghostblood As he ran, Bookwyrm sent out a mental message. Thaid? Are you okay?
  6. "The call? Yes." Bookwyrm took a minute to identify Sunny in his mind. She's a librarian, he eventually realized. They'd taken on some new staff after the Kaotic War, but he'd been gone for months looking for a prison for Saar with Insa, and so his memory needed a jog. Not that the search came to much in the end anyway... He paused that train of thought. Moping wouldn't do any good right now. "What's the matter?" he asked Sunny.
  7. @InfiniteInsanity Bookwyrm felt the call sound through his mind. And he very clearly felt it's source, far across the shifting tides of universes. The Clinic. Bookwyrm grabbed Insa's hand and threw them across reality towards the source of that call. The Clinic: Lobby The two landed on the floor of the lobby. "Sorry I took us without warning," Bookwyrm said to Insa. "I felt a way home and had to take it." He stood up and offered her his hand. @Thaidakar the Ghostblood @Spark of Hope

  9. I would like you to explain to me why you are not a nerd.

Because frankly, the evidence is not in your favor.

I think your definition of nerd might be askew, and so you think you aren't one.

You're all being too antagonistic about it.

You can't just force her to admit it, she has to realize it of her own choice.

We need to gently guide her toward the truth, and she's never going to accept it if you keep shoving it in her face.

That's why I got out the Therapy Beard.

      Spoiler

Why is the fine line between just joking and not joking so hard to define in writing...

  10. "Yeah..." Bookwyrm sighed and leaned back. "I guess we'll figure something out. Eventually."
  11. I think we have a thread for this already. I'll post a link to it once I find it. EDIT:
  12. "I'm a bad friend." - Me "No!" - @InfiniteInsanity "Yeah, you're horrible." - @TheGreatSnail For the record I was joking when I started this. I think.
  13. ...Street legal airplane. Would you rather the sky be green or purple?
  14. Hello.

I am designing a sci-fi universe. And it's still very rough around the edges, though a lot of the core stuff is there. The basic premise is that a few decades from our modern era, a small percentage of humans begin manifesting an ability that allows them to manipulate the rules of the universe in a way that allows advanced space travel.

Fast forward about two thousand years, and there are now hundreds of planets in the Worlds of Humanity, organized into groups of worlds called Unities, many of which are based on cultures back on earth. (For example there's a Unity that's primarily inhabited by the descendants of the Polynesian people, one by the descendants of Africans, several that came from Asian cultures...) Others have developed entirely new cultures without any analog to old Earth peoples.

In order to get a better feel for this universe, I want to write character-focused stories that take place in the universe. But I lack a lot of ideas.

So here's your mission: Give me character-based writing prompts. I don't need anything outlandish. Just things you'd like to see a character doing in this universe. Some can be everyday actions, others could be more drastic.

I have one idea right now, which is where a parent (or parents) are telling their child the story of how they met. They'd both be scientists assigned to survey and colonize a frontier planet, and their child was one of the first born on this new planet.

But yeah. Any ideas would be great. No promises I'll actually write them...but I'll try, and if I do, I'll share them.

      Oh, that's a good book.

Worldbuilding-wise, I'm going for a blend of the Enderverse, Dune, and TSSoS and similar fiction.

And as for the aliens, the vibe I'm trying to hit is somewhere between the mysterious entities from Interstellar and the aliens from Arrival, in terms of advancement and mysticism.

Enderverse is solid. I still haven't read Dune. (I know, I know)

And I haven't watched either of those (I'm not a TV guy)

But what I'm grasping so far is exciting.

  15. "...It's probably best if I you see for yourself." A reflective circle of glass appeared in Bookwyrm's hand. He handed it to her.
  16. "Because of what she's doing to you, Insa. To your mind. I've seen how she hurts you, and I hate to see you go through that." His eyes fell again on the fractal scar on her neck. "I'm not scared of Saar. I can handle her. But I am scared about what she might do to you."
  17. He sighed. "I just...I'm stuck. I'm scared for you and I don't know how to help."
  18. Bookwyrm sighed. He didn't know what to do about this. The prison had been the best solution, and now... He didn't know what to do. He sat silently for a moment.

  20. Middle earth. By far. Would you rather have no arms or no legs?
  21. Oh...this is hard. Maybe freeze? In the instance you are going to be pushed out of an airplane without a parachute, would you rather go with or without a blindfold?
