It's a pun.
And you aren't supposed to know where the picture is from.
...I'm literally the only person I know in real life who knows where that picture is from....
Tinker sighed. "Okay...can you at least switch out a part of the survival equipment for a silver knife, and a small rod each of steel and iron? I think we can make due without a tent. And we don't need bandages."
Teenagers are children. As a teenager I say this with confidence.
Also, teenagers are too unstable not to be human. They have to be. It's the best explanation.
Tinker looked at him dryly. "Look, I'm not murdering people for you. This spike is all I have. I guess there's the blood, too, because you seem so interested in that." Venom laced his tone.
Tinker warily pocketed the grenade, then walked over and placed the jar of blood, with the spike inside, on the table.
"How much are you willing to trade for this?"
Tinker gasped as the knife jerked in his hand. It slipped from his fingers and shot towards Tondon.
He stood there for a moment, and met Astra's eyes for a second. Then, without waiting for an answer, he ducked into the Casino and slammed the door behind him.

I have a problem with assuming people instantly comprehend all the context I imagine for a conversation without checking to make sure they actually do.
...No, I meant that if you're going to die in a year, then your girlfriend would be sad because you'd be dead.
Sorry...
That's all I meant...
I didn't want to sound mean...
Tinker gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll be in and out. And I've got Crimson. Don't worry."
Yeah, Tinker, stop worrying.
He made a dash for the Casino and ducked into the nearest door.
@Edema Rue
Tinker led Marewill to a small snowy tree-covered hill near the Casino and crouched among the foliage.
"I can take the spike," he said, holding out his hand.
@Edema Rue
"If we don't want to risk both our lives, I could also just go alone," Tinker said as he salvaged the sleeping bag and rolled it up.
That tent's a lost cause...
"We'd find a new place to hide near the casino, I duck in and out, then we leave again."
"Well, yeah. That's because the man inside wanted me to kill people in order to get stuff. But...that spike is valuable, and we might be able to trade it for something. A true spore kit for me. New supplies, new clothes."
