  1. I find that more likely, though I still don't think that would make the Shardblades feel fundamentally wrong to Syl. In fact, it almost seems more likely that it is just Oathbringer Syl is referring to, for the reason that we know that at one point, some types of Radiant's used both Shardplate and Shardblades. But then, maybe they're an order of Radiants with fundamentally different ideals than the Windrunners, or any of the others that honorspren are bonded with?
  2. Slightly off topic, but I'm going to just go ahead and hypothesize that the only reason Sazed was able to take both shards was because he took them at the same time. Think about it - the nature of the two shards is fundamentally opposite to each other. It seems like if he were to be actively holding Ruin or Preservation, then tried to take the other, there would be some sort of reaction, or he would feel pain from it, or some such. Now granted, this is all my wild guessing, but it makes sense to me that Ruin wouldn't be able to take Preservation and vice-versa. As to whether they'd be able to take other Shards, ones that aren't fundamentally opposed to them, I have no thoughts yet. This could also go a ways toward explaining why Odium is Splintering other Shards rather than usurping them. Thoughts?
  3. Yeah. This is why I haven't started Dan's books yet. I hear they're quite awesome, but I have to make sure I have sufficient time to devote to them. That, and I keep just forgetting to actually, you know, buy them. Even though I totally mean to. I would like to announce that I have finally caught up from my first two weeks of slacking off this semester.
  4. Totally saw some kid in my Bio class playing this today. Looks like it could, indeed, be addicting. Which means that I probably need to not touch it for a while......
  5. Interesting. This is almost verging on the "enemy of my enemy" thing. Almost. Still waiting to hear if my proposal has been accepted, Trendkill.....assuming that you're still around.....
  6. Well yeah. But I slack off too, you see. Just when I think I'm going to catch you, I randomly don't come around for two weeks, and you get way ahead again. Happens time and again. No one else actually posts enough that I can't pass them again, though. Just you.
  7. I would like to announce that with this post, my post count is once again higher than Eerongal's. In other words, this post is purely spam. It should be ignored. Thank you.
  8. This post is to inform you that you are no longer ahead of me as of this post, because I registered after you, and therefore have more posts per day, and therefore am still slightly ahead of you. However, just to be certain, I will remain online until I can make more posts to regain my position. Also: Silus, you don't stand a chance. I am coming. Chaos: We'll see. I doubt I can catch you, so I really can't threaten you. But I'll try.
  9. I like this theory. It opens up all kinds of new possibilities. Of course, then Hoid would have to be calling himself Rock as well, but it's not too far out of the question.
  10. Yeah. We had a pretty extensive discussion on the topic. About all we have to go on was the color of their blood is the same, they are described as looking the same, and Pokemon is canon. I agree that Chasmfiends -> Thunderclasts is the most likely option at the moment, but we really can't prove it just yet.
  11. It could go either way. It seems like Syl is making a reference to Shardblades in general, but she only specifically talks about Dalinar's blade. The exact quote:
  12. That, and it's also possible that Odium's left Sazed alone just because he holds two Shards, and therefore poses a rather significant threat. I don't think Odium would do anything to threaten Sazed until he was relatively certain he could take him out, which likely means finding an ally or taking another Shard somehow. He saves Sazed for last, uses Bavadin to take him out, then turns on Bavadin, maybe? That would be my guess. It is, of course, entirely possible that he's taken out Saze already, but I tend to think not.
  13. I agree. It seems fairly likely that Wyrn either direct or very close indirect access to a fairly large portion of a Shard.
  14. I appear to have slipped rather drastically in the last three weeks. I guess this is what I get for not coming around for a bit. But seriously. I slipped from a very secure second, within thirty posts of passing Chaos, to a rather distant third, with Eero about to pass me, particularly if my posting habits continue recent trends. Oh, and I slipped from sixth most time online to ninth, and I'm not even on the topics list anymore. This is depressing.
  15. It's possible. He's done things like that before. Sorry to temporarily disappear on you, Trendkill. Yes, I'm still with you. Ice cream is overrated, and as evidenced by Zas' empty sherbet bowl, Chaos isn't taking good care of his people. Plus I've already lost to him too many times. I was thinking something more along the lines of dessert extraction specialist (aka thief). Also, as an added bonus, I appear to be immune to Comatose's "product" there, even if it does turn out to be real.
  16. That is unfortunate. I was thinking about just showing up as well. I may still do so, depending on whether or not my other classes kill me this semester.
  17. I'm pretty sure I'm require to oppose Eerongal on principal. So Trendkill it is.
  18. *Is Jealous* Though admittedly, I got some Pratchett, so I'm quite excited, and I couldn't get any of Brandon's other stuff, because I already had them all. Dan's stuff is on the to-be-read list somewhere.
  19. I would like to announce that I have finally begun Christmas shopping.
  20. I'm personally of the opinion that the radiants could power their Shardplate by feeding it stormlight consciously, making the gems unnecessary. Then they could use the gems as a battery of sorts, allowing them to store extra stormlight to use as necessary. Of course, they really would probably still need more stormlight than this. I like the idea that the Plate makes them less "leaky." But you raise a valid point. They would need more stormlight than they have ready access too, as far as we can see. Also, as to the jumping miles vs jumping feet, realize that I haven't read the relevant passage for a couple of months. I have no idea how far they're jumping. I was just making a general comment.
  21. I fail to see how magic users are in any way different than Splinters under your classification system, since the idea of Splinters is that they're fractions of shards. Aside from that, I have no gripes with anything. Lerasium as a Splinter-creating substance makes sense. After all, it's part of the Shard's body. When ingesting it, a person is actually ingesting part of the shard. They become a Splinter. (Though admittedly I have no idea why atium wouldn't work this way as well). Magic users who inherit the magic via bloodline, etc, however, are most likely just receiving dilutions of that same original piece of the shard. This is why magic users aren't as powerful after several generations. They'd still be splinters under the classification system. I'm assuming that when we say a Sliver is someone who's held a part of a Shard, we're talking about a rather significant part, yes? Like, say, the majority of it? Otherwise there's again no difference from a Splinter except that it includes previous holders as well.
  22. Well most humans don't randomly grow armour, so I'd say it's a safe bet to classify the Parshendi as humanoid rather than human. In fact, Kaladin actually mentions that the Parshendi anatomy is vastly different from that of people when he's cutting off said armour.
