  1. Only until I can get my hands on it.... Which, theoretically, shouldn't be long with me being at BYU and all....
  2. Because that's definitely what they're looking for in a guy....
  3. That makes sense, I suppose. The splinter just passes to somebody else. And I totally agree that Brandon's not going to have people take the Shards later in the Elantris trilogy. I was just stating what I thought would happen if someone were to take those shards.
  4. Well yeah. And honestly, I'd be reading Dragonsteel for the cosmology. I'd heard Brandon say it was mediocre as well. But I happen to be an overly obsessive fan, so....
  5. True enough. That doesn't mean it isn't possible. Note that I'm only resorting to this argument because I really have absolutely no support to back the theory. Nor do I actually really think it's the most likely possibility. But hey, it's still a valid point, right?
  6. I'm not convinced on Stormlight either. It was just the only reasonable possibility I'd seen so far. Makes sense. I'm assuming you're referring to Feruchemy when you talk about charges. Was there anywhere else it appeared? And whatever happened to "imbue?" I'm surprised you didn't include that one with Hemalurgy, seeing as you coined it yourself. Although I do find it interesting that with all the systems on Scadrial, you somehow charge the substance, but on Roshar, the substance is what does the infusing. If that made any sense whatsoever. I get what I'm saying.
  7. Obviously not that useful, as it took MovAvi Elliott a week even with both its help and all us psychos here on the forum...... So while we're on this note, any chance we'll see your comprehensive summary anytime soon? I get it if not (7 hours sleep in last 72 hours = no bueno) but if you've got the time....
  8. Though, admittedly, conjecture that's within the realm of possibility. The name Shardblade does seem to imply some sort of connection, though I don't know that it's that direct.
  9. And we later discussed the possibility of Stormlight as a focus on Roshar. Keep up, man
  10. It gets better, I promise. My reaction went something like this: First half of Gardens: "I am so incredibly confused....my head hurts." Second half of Gardens: "I'm still really confused, but this is pretty fricking awesome (when I understand, anyway)" First half of Deadhouse Gates: "I'm still confused, but now it's a good kind of confused." Second half of Deadhouse: "No more confusion. Side note, this has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. In a good way." End of Deadhouse: *Sobs* Memories of Ice: "Who are all these random people? I'm now slightly confused again." About halfway through Memories: "I GET IT!!!!" End of Memories: "Holy. Fricking. Crap." That pretty much was how it went. The first book is the most confusing. After that, things do start to make more sense. You should have a good portion of the magic and other important world aspects figured out by about a third to halfway through Deadhouse Gates. Memories introduces a bunch of new information, but since you already have a basis in the world, it's not nearly as hard to follow. The rest of the series goes essentially the same way - introduce new info, but since you already have a basic handle on the world it's not hard to get your bearings. Read through Memories of Ice. If you don't like it and/or Deadhouse Gates, you probably won't like the rest of the series. If you do, though, you'll probably enjoy the rest as well. Though, admittedly, I still think those two are the strongest of any of the malazan books. Also, rereading Gardens after having finished the series once - everything makes so much sense. It's amazing.
  11. Of Way of Kings? That's what I'll assume, since none of the others have symbols that I know of. Anyway, it's a shardblade, or so I thought. It looks distinctly shardbladeish. I'd totally draw it for you, except for my complete lack of artistic talent. And Chaos beat me to it. Again.
  12. Not really. There's a bit of discussion about it going on here over the matter, but nothing's really been confirmed. I personally am nearly positive that it's not Sazed, but I'll let you read my reasoning over there, and try to keep this thread at least a little bit on track.
  13. And yet again, it's reiterated to me how badly I need to reread Elantris. Curses.
  14. Double posting because I can! 2500 words already! How's everyone else doing?
  15. Your example is slightly flawed - the well of ascension is the power of Preservation, all concentrated into one area. The liquid itself isn't the power (if you stepped into Ruin's pool, you don't get to use his power. You probably get zapped), it just marks the cognitive aspect of the Shard. Just look at the pool in Elantris for confirmation - it's not a huge well of power when Raoden enters, it offers him relief. Likewise, the Mist is simply a form of the Shard, not really used for anything by magic users. Vin uses it, but only because she's stronger than most, and pretty desperate. For whatever reason, she was able to draw on Preservation directly (the mists) to fuel her allomancy, rather than through the metal. That doesn't make the mist a fuel source all the time. In fact, that particular stunt never really gets repeated except when Vin is becoming Preservation, at which point she just kind of destroys the Inquisitors anyway. Lerasium is the same as any other form of Preservation's body - just compressed. Theoretically, if you had enough mist, you could make lerasium. If you were to take the mist and condense it to a liquid, it wouldn't suddenly be much more powerful. The Pools are not the liquid forms of the Shards. They're their cognitive aspects, and in the case of Preservation, the place where the full power of the Shard can be tapped. Let's not read too much into this (I know, I'm asking a lot....) Sorry if I come across as hostile or upset. I tend to sound that way in posts like this. I'm really not. I just disagree.
  16. It was then I'm kinda agreeing with Eero here. Enough with the Eerocide, it's getting old. Moving on. If you want to fight me as I work my way to godlike powers, I'm cool with that. I'll probably need to lurk a bit more, which pretty much rules out anything happening this weekend, but after that, it could happen. *Begins planning* Also, a showdown like that would be epic. It's like the games little kids play where they suddenly have a million and a half new powers, except like five times as awesome because you only three words in which to gain your awesome powers.
