  1. For completion's sake, I am putting together a list of all of Brandon's answers that are relevant (and new) to his worlds. I'll come back a little later and replace the links with actual quotes. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmsas1?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmsfba?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxnga0u?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxngrwp?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/3vckjv/cosmere_spoilers_scadrial_shardblades/cxnjgcv?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxnjssn?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxnunmd?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxnweal?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxohl8e?context=10000 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmrcfj?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmrbra?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmn8l8?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/3vaiib/no_spoilers_brandon_is_doing_an_rfantasy_ama_in/cxmn1r5?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmmosx?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxmmc6u?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxm6c24?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxm5rpw?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3va8fw/day_4_group_ama_in_support_of_worldbuilders/cxm5uuy?context=3
  2. It's such a great moment. Though I was mildly surprised that Wax hasn't shared the details of Shadows of Self with Steris.
  3. I wouldn't say The Magicians is horrible. It's a very different kind of book, a strange mix between Harry Potter, Narnia, and something grimdark. It wasn't my favorite series, but I can appreciate it after the fact - it has an interesting message, one worth thinking about, it just didn't convey it very well.
  4. But Supergirl practically opened with Auntie Bad. It was a promise to the watchers, and now they are not even acknowledging her existence.
  5. This. Oh, man, I shouldn't read this stuff at work, Brandon is far too good at making me laugh. Also, this: Also also this: Really, anything with Steris. The ash girls are another really cool - and a bit weird - addition.
  6. I am still weird about the show. I like it, but it's very on-the-nose about certain things - specifically the points it's trying to get across. It's not that the points are bad or wrong, but the show makes it too obvious that it's preaching - which, now that I think about it, is maybe something we need. Also, for once, I want a show where the lead character and the character obviously planted as their love interest get together and deal with things together, instead of having the love interest randomly get together with another character. Seriously. Also also, we are what, halfway through the season, and Kara's aunt is still MIA. What's up with that, Supergirl?
  7. Fair enough. I admit I am not familiar with the details of these things. More the tool the architects used. It was really Gavilar pointing at an enemy army, and Dalinar stomping it to the dust.
  8. In his defense, many of the prologues are relevant. It's not just for worldbuilding purposes.
  9. Searched the ebooks for both The Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self, and it turns out Hammondar Bay is mentioned exactly once, in passing - Winsting feels a breeze he notices is coming from Hammondar Bay, "a couple of miles to the west." And that's it. No mentions in The Alloy of Law (where Ham receives absolutely no love), no other mentions in Shadows of Self, and the only other tributes to Ham are a mention of "Hammondar Promenade" and "a Hammondess scion," one each. Searching for "bay" didn't result in anything useful either. All in all, the most interesting piece of information that came from this little research project is the knowledge that I am incapable of spelling Hammondar correctly, not until I've misspelled it as Hammonday...
  10. I think the only time we go to Hammondar Bay is when Wax finds Wayne after his visit to Alriandre (sp?). It was mostly brotalk, I think, but I'll check when I get home.
  11. Oooh, nice! Regarding the bundling of spren and Aons, Brandon has said in the past that the Aons in the centre of Seons are very similar to spren, they are both splinters. I think it's those Aons he is referring to there. And there is definitely an implication that the person the Shade becomes a cognitive shadow of influences the... character of the Shade. I wonder they all seem so bloodthirsty now.
  12. I believe it's longer now.
  13. Just finished Terry Pratchett's Small Gods. In short, one of my favorite Pratchett books, with one of his best - and most satisfying - endings. Good takeaways there too.
  14. Here's my contribution: Source
  15. A quick update from the Worldbuilders AMA (Day 4): So three graphic novels, six issues each. First one planned for Summer 2016.
  16. I may need to cheat and sneak in a short story, or a novella, or something... I think there was a way to look at how many pages I've read, since that's more important to me, but I can't find it. At least the vast majority of the participants are also not ready...
  17. I personally haven't read any of the ones in today's AMA, but I've heard I lot of good things about both Wesley Chu and Peter Orullian (and I haven't even heard the others). From the other days, I've read Jim C Hines, Brian McClellan, Scott Lynch, Mark Lawrence, Robert J Bennett, and Django Wexler, and would recommend any of them, with a disclaimer that Mark Lawrence is grimdark and Scott Lynch has a few torture scenes. Max Gladstone, Elizabeth Bear, and Myke Cole are the ones I haven't read, but have heard praised.
  18. According to IMDb Jessica Jones scored 8.6, a little lower than Daredevil's 8.9, but it improved more over the course of the entire season.
  19. I glanced over all of his replies and it looks like the vast majority of them are to general questions - whether that's because that's the ones he prefers to target, or because the vast majority of all questions are general ones, I don't know. There are definitely more specific questions addressed to Brandon than to the other authors, which makes me a little bit guilty =\
  20. Of immense relevance: Source
  21. Hmm. I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to Forge something into aluminum - it's almost the same as Soulcasting something into aluminum, and we know this is done on Roshar. After this it gets interesting though. Unlike Soulcasting, Forging - the way I understand it - works by continuously fighting the target object's Spiritual aspect, twisting it into whatever the Forger desired. Once the mark is removed, or fades, the object reverts back to its original Realmatic form - and Forging something into aluminum would have that exact effect, I believe. Once an object's Spiritual aspect is changed to that of one made of aluminum, the unforgeable metal's immunity to Investiture will kick in and reject the continuous effects of the mark, bouncing the object back to its original form.
  22. Yeah, I couldn't find a good Aon for myself either. The problem is, all of the vowels in my name are short, and Aons require them to be long. Maybe I should've tried for a Svordish name or something...
  23. Here's something noteworthy. If the giant Aon Ela does, in fact, serve some function, it's highly likely that Raoden hasn't added the chasm line to it. Which makes me wonder what consequences, if any, Elantris will have to deal with.
  24. First, a story. I've been thinking about how to personalize my leatherbound copy of Elantris (which I am yet to order), and one cool idea I had was to figure out a way to translate my name into Arelish and write it with the Aonic alphabet. I was even going to allow for some... Cosmerification of my name, so it sounds more Arelish. I asked Brandon a few questions on Twitter (and, boy, was he steller in his responses!), and it turns out I am probably not going to be able to do that, there is just not enough information in the book (unlike, for example, the women's script from The Stormlight Archive). And now, to the point. What came out of this whole thing, however, was a clarification on how the Aonic alphabet works. In short, it's very similar to how the Hangul alphabet works. Which is something we knew from The Shadows of Self tour, but I have a bit more now. Turns out if you wanted to write your name with it, you would write your "core" Aon (e.g. Aon Ene for Sarene or Aon Rao for Raoden), and then you would add additional symbols (which I will headcanon are the in-world inspiration for the power modifiers) for the extra sounds. So Sarene would be Aon Ene, surrounded in some way by the symbols for 's', 'a', and 'r'. Probably. The conversation is a little scattered, but you can find most of it here.
