Your brain accounts for about 20% of your entire body's energy consumption (during rest), so I could see how doubling or tripling could make you hungry.

Official Star Wars Episode VII SPOILER Thread
Argent replied to Seonid's topic in Entertainment Discussion
In short - I loved it. One of the best things about it, I think, is how much it felt like a Star Wars movie - visual style, plot, special effects, worldbuilding. From the mandatory things, like the opening text and the camera panning down to a planet, to the more subtle ones, like the way some people understand non-human races and droids with no effort, while others are rightfully confused. A lot of thematic parallels with the older movies too. Rey, like Anakin, is an orphan from a desert planet who is Force-sensitive and has to run away from her home because of the Empire First Order. Kylo Ren walking on that bridge with Han Solo following him reminded me (visually) of the scene where Luke lost his hand. Rey kicking Ren's butt reminded me of Obi-wan defeating Anakin. There was a scene just before the final bombardment of the not-Death Star where the x-wing pilots were flying through what was essentially a metal ditch, and it looked very much like the scene where Luke was flying through a similar ditch in the Death Star to bombard whatever he was going to bombard to blow it up. A few other scenes too. Rey was definitely a highlight. The trash compactor reference was gold. BB-8 won all the things. I was not a huge fan of Finn though, his role didn't feel as fleshed out as Rey's. I liked how Kylo Ren's lightsaber was poorly controlled, either because he was so prone to rage or because he wasn't properly trained. -
The kandra trying to tease the secret of movies out of Harmony reminds me greatly of how many of us pry Brandon for information... The Last Obligator... Yomen? "The Lance of the Fountains" sounds nice - the spear Kelsier used to try to kill The Lord Ruler, I presume? I think there were fountains there. I smell misdirection here. We haven't really talked about what Kelsier could and would do with the knowledge granted by the power of the Well, and this is very much a confirmation that he did actually hold the power (kind of) for a period of time. I wonder if Reluur's name is intended to sound a little like an anagram of Ruler. Are we looking at an ancient Terris mural depicting Rashek after his murder of Alendi?

Stormwarden script is basically l33t speak

I don't remember if it was mentioned explicitly, but somebody figured it out pretty soon after the book came out. There is a translation thread somewhere... -
I don't know, it seems a bit of a stretch to assume that an Aon can assess the quality of a Spiritual connection. Identify that they exist, sure, I can buy that. But their type? I think a cognitive component would be required for that, and I don't think we've seen an Aon with a cognitive effect yet (except for maybe Elantris' Rao, but that's a bit of a special case).

Shadows of Self Tour: London Forbidden Planet signing

This is interesting. I had assumed that spren kind of feel when a human is suitable for a bond, but this makes it sound like they can choose to actively look around, see what's on the market. Oooh, giant crustacean at the heart of Roshar confirmed! This is new, isn't it? Roshar was also created? -
I was wondering about that, and I don't think external perception will have any magical* effect. The way Brandon phrased it suggests that you have to "[be] guilty" to "feel pain". I can see other interpretations, but they don't sound good to me. * By which I mean that it will have an effect, but the mundane one - what others think of you influences what you think of yourself. In a non-magical way, it's true on Earth too.

Eh. Once you have FTL, intragalactic distances are probably not a big deal anyway.

How are we not freaking about a Cosmere star chart?! Why are we not freaking out about it?! I am freaking out so hard right now, I may have displaced my fecal matter.

It's up. Go read it.

Again, we don't know anything about how this thing works. But the finite amount of Investiture in the Cosmere is unlikely to be a problem, I imagine it's so vastly more than what humans can handle, even Compounders won't be making a dent in it. Plus, Compounders are restricted by the size of their metalminds - Compounding does require you to burn (parts) of your metalminds. So the benefits will probably plateau at some point.
-
The thing is, we have no idea how storing Investiture works. Obviously he couldn't have used it to restore himself to Shard-level power - either because he didn't know how or because that's not how the magic works.
-
Luck is a Feruchemical property, not an Allomantic one. But you can store (and compound) it in chromium. I wonder if, over time, luck compounders will become more numerous than other compounders, simply because they might try to use their stored luck to game the generic system and produce offspring that can also compound luck. On the topic of Wax and his... troubles, I don't think there is any foul play. It is very reasonable to believe that he views his marriage to Steris as, in many ways, the final nail in the coffin of his life with Lessie. But I wouldn't put it beyond Wayne to hire a Rioter in case his plan with the flood didn't pan out.
-
Slivers don't have "enormous amounts of Investiture" - they've had it one point, but the loss of the power is a requirement for them becoming Slivers. Apparently it leaves them "deflated", which is something we don't know much about.

Sazed - Harmony - upgraded him.
-
This is highly speculative. For all we know, instead of having connections to all the Shards because they are fragments of Adonalsium, he might have no connections, because his connection was to Adonalsium, not the individual Shards.
-
We don't know.
-
But that's still your Identity. So you become more yourself, perhaps bolstering your personality traits. Not as useful.
-
We may have known it. It was implied, if nothing else. But I am pretty sure we have Sazed's epigraphed word that the reason Rashek couldn't create another Hemalurgic construct in the millennium after his ascension was because Hemalurgy is such an incredibly complicated Metallic Art, he needed the Well to understand it.
-
Oh, Steris. You do subtle disgruntlement like no one else. That's... not how I remember it. But I choose to remember it this way from now on. Oh, Brandon. Oh, Brandon, Brandon. How smug did you feel when you were thinking how we are going to react to those two simple words there at the end? Because there is no way this was written without the confidence that people are going to lose it.

Hmm. Hmmmm. Hmmmmmm. Show me yer theories, metalheads.
