  1. Oh, hmm, that's an interesting idea. I don't know whether I buy it yet, but it's certainly interesting...
  2. Hey bud, so normally I would just hide your post, maybe drop you a PM about how we like to foster a community of wholesomeness in here, and your message ain't exactly that. The thing is, I've been seeing a lot of hate towards shipping and shippers lately, and fortunately your post is an excellent example of some of the issues I've been saying. So I'll just use this to make a few points. First and absolutely foremost, you walk into a thread where people are clearing having fun, and your entire reason to be here is to crap on their parade? That's a dick move. This is the Internet, if you don't like what you are saying in one tiny corner of it, the easiest way to not have to deal with the thing you don't like is to just close the browser window. There is absolutely no reason for you to share your dislike. Second, you are not contributing to the subject of this thread at all. Best I can tell, the only reason you decided to post here is so you could tell Ene you find the thing she likes to be disgusting. That, depending on where you draw your lines, is toxic at best, and hatespeech at worst. And third, not only did you decide to do all this, but you did it after the thread had seen 2 weeks of inactivity. Are you really that petty? Do you really hate Ene that much? Is it that important for the world to know how disgust with shipping - or this particular ship? Because, honestly, if you want to answer affirmatively to any of those, maybe you need to do some soulsearching and decide what's more important to you - is it to belong in this community and continue talking about Brandon's works, or is it to express yourself in this way? Because we can't have both. Now, all this being said, I would urge you to avoid responding here. In fact, the rest of the Staff has been discussing this while I make my points here, and it looks like we'll time you out for a week so you can think about things. Then, once you are back, we can have a (private) conversation about how to avoid incidents like this in the future, if that's something you are interested in. Cheers!
  3. I don't really do fanfics, but my love for Taln is hardly unique
  4. I agree, I had it as "stairwell" in my notes (it's clear that the end of the first word repeats the same letter twice) and just typed it wrong in here; I'll update. I another "I typed it wrong," good catch ("what" doesn't even make sense)! I agree, I am missing a "pattern" in there, though I would use a comma instead of a period between the two sentences. Yep, another typo in my part. I'll go ahead and fix all of this, thank you for (unwittingly?) double-checking my work!
  5. Hmm, I wonder if the imprisonment of Ba-Ado-Mishram made it so Radiant spren, when "killed," end up in this limbo state where their Radiant essentially drags their near-corpse behind, gaining a small measure of the power they used to have. Whereas prior to the Recreance, if a Radiant broke their Oaths, only the bond would break - the spren would be hurt, similarly to how they get hurt when the Radiant dies, but would be able to recuperate.
  6. I've actually been wondering if the "ha" is just how they indicate a question in writing, and Nazh is just filling in question marks whenever he sees those.
  7. Yep, I think "into" is what was missing from the Experiments page (seems obvious to me now, not sure why I couldn't parse it at first...), and I did in fact miss a "see" on the Fourth Bridge page (just an error from when I was typing all of this into a forum topic from my notes). Both are fixed now!
  8. I will double check the missing words tomorrow
  9. I've got a separate thread with translations of Navani's notebook (which includes stuff from later parts in the book). The Battah illustration hasn't been revealed.
  10. Obviously there are spoilers here EDIT: Props to @hyuuy6 for also translating all of this and catching a few mistakes of mine in the process! As always, Navani has been writing her notes in the women's script (very inconsiderate of her), but I decided to hop on the translation thing early. It's actually kind of remarkable how quickly you learn to recognize specific letters, or even entire words. Also, Raboniel's handwriting is garbage. Anyway, here's what I've got (after adding punctuation and fixing some spelling mistakes): Navani’s Notebook: The Fourth Bridge Navani’s Notebook: The Arnist Method Navani’s Notebook: The Crystal Pillar Room Navani’s Notebook: Dagger Navani’s Notebook: Experiments
  11. I feel like even if we wanted to try something like this - which I agree would have value to the casual/new reader, there's a lot of "don't go to 17S/Coppermind/Arcanum until you've read everything" going around (and with a good reason...) - the technological challenge is still something we likely can't get around, MediaWiki is pretty limited in what it allows us to play with. Plus, our focus with the wiki has always been content, so any effort that takes away from writing content really has to be worth it, for most people. I am personally not opposed to some kind of solution that gives readers better guidance (maybe instead of tagging individual sentences/paragraphs, we can tag entire sections, or entire pages), but I suspect it's going to be tricky to both come up with and implement; and it has to be a low-to-no maintenance solution too, because some version of this wiki will probably stick around for the next 30+ years...
  12. If the back cover does show up online, keep in mind that we will only allow sharing from official sources (Brandon, Tor, Amazon, etc.); fan photos of ARCs and hardcovers leaked into the wild will be deleted.
  13. The chapter was accidentally scheduled to go live a day early. As you have noticed, it's no longer available, and we'll be removing until discussion about it until it goes live properly on Tuesday.
  14. We had to hide this thread until we had confirmed that it's okay for these images to be out in the wild. Peter is okay with that, so discuss away! I myself love how the Urithiru one gives a sense of scale, there's so much stuff there!
  15. We don't, but I've been assuming that it - like the Blade - just goes back to being... whatever it is that makes it up.
  16. I was wondering if the Plate could be theirs. My understanding is that the scouring came soon after the Recreance, so presumably when they sailed off to Akinah, the Radiants and the Sleepless were still on good (?) terms. So maybe they were the first protector of the Dawnshard - the role that Cord might grow into - and upon their death, left the Plate (but no Blade? that's a little weird). I do think that we saw a small, small portion of the undersea caverns, and I am still looking forward to exploring them much further in the future.
  17. That is intentional. Each book (with a few exceptions) misspells his name in a different way.
  18. I think we are approaching the definition of the Dawnshards fundamentally different. My view is very much focused on... stuff. Inanimate matter, I guess, while yours sounds like it's a lot more about life and minds. So I am curious about why you focus on life when it comes to this. Because it seems like all of the Dawnshard ideas that don't fit with my paradigm fit with some variation of yours
  19. Notice a typo, a misspelled name, or an inconsistency with Dawnshard? Report it here so future editions of the book might fix it.
  20. @Pagerunner, I take two issues with this. One, while of these ideas for Dawnshards fit the Shards, I think the "springboard" approach is kind of backwards. I think that you are taking the most direct interpretation of each Shard, taking their common denominator, and turning that into a Dawnshard. Which is problematic to me because the Shards are much more than just "devotion" or "preservation", so deriving a common denominator is going to limit its scope. And Issue the Second, because I think that the Dawnshards are more fundamental than the Shards, I think we need to think of them in a way that allows for their sum to describe everything in existence, not just life.
  21. Like all the other names, Destruction is... too simplistic of a term. If I think of it as a more nebulous "something into nothing", then I can actually fit Odium in there as well - with the whole Void thing going on, emptying oneself of emotion. @Jofwu, I think this would address some of your concerns as well. The names I've chosen are kind of simple and generic, but I think their sum describes everything that can happen with stuff, which I think is important when it comes to coming up with ideas for the Dawnshards. I don't think this requires the Shards to be... balanced in any way, at least no more than the universe needs to be balanced. I also don't think that the four Dawnshards make up Adonalsium, only that express his (?) will when it came to the ordering of the universe - things needed to be created, other things needed to end, things need to be able to change, and... I guess things don't need to be always changing?
  22. So. Big news, huh? Instead of writing several pages, I am just going with what I think - some of which is inspired by people like @Windrunner's ideas. I think the four Dawnshards are: Creation - something from nothing Destruction - something into nothing Change - something into something else Statis - something... and then still something Brandon just dropped an annotation for this book, and apparently Hoid was a Dawnshard at one point (!). His immortality seems consistent with the Statis Dawnshard. Rysn's is obviously Change. Also, I think of the Dawnshards as kind of proto-Shards or pseudo-Shards, and during the Shattered of Adonalsium, the resulting 16 Shards were somehow influenced by the Dawnshards, resulting in the Intents we (mostly) now know. Okay, I am done, back to freaking out!
  23. Here's a discussion thread on RoW Chapter 13 You can read it here: https://www.tor.com/2020/09/29/read-rhythm-of-war-by-brandon-sanderson-chapter-thirteen/ A new chapter will go live every Tuesday at 9am Eastern.
