I think it - like many things - are more complex than that. Sure, it often turns into a me-fest, but there is value in social media - beyond just connecting with one's friends. I won't try to convert you or anything, I myself am not terribly active on my own accounts, but I recognize it can be useful (for information, for social studies, for gauging interest, for raising awareness, etc.). So if you are aware of these things and it still feels too person-centric to you (which it might, it very much depends on the kind of people you have around), then I'll get off your hair. But if this sounds somewhat new, maybe you can (choose to) see social media in a different light. It's certainly not going away

I think Peter assumed you were trying to figure out whether the Shardblade guards we see in Words of Radiance are made of aluminum, hence the "something else that Shardblades don't cut" (i.e. the guards) "doesn't need to necessarily be made of aluminum." And it looks like Peter believes Blade could cut aluminum, as long as we are talking about a a thin sheet of it. You know, by virtue of them still being physical objects.

But have you tried Facesnappergram?

Honestly, Chicago's AU wasn't bad. Yes, we had a lot of people outside, but I legitimately felt like I hadn't brought enough questions. I almost ran out. Guess who's not making that mistake ever again...

If previous AMAs are an indicator, time will be irrelevant - Brandon will keep coming back and answering questions for like 6 months. I am beginning to worry, however. He has been so active, I am starting to run out of questions...
-
Heh. I just clarified a few things I had been wondering about. Don't hold your breaths The last question is, perhaps, the most interesting one. What I really want to get an answer on is a pet theory of mine I asked in a follow-up post. But we'll see if it gets anything (I did dream that he RAFO'd me on it, so there's that...).
-
In my experience Brandon explicitly asks event attendees not to post recordings and transcripts when he wants to keep those things event-exclusive. Moreover, he usually does that for book tours so people in cities later in the tour can still hear something fresh and new. One off events like this one, especially when he hasn't said anything, I am over 90% sure he'd be fine with a transcript. But sure, we can wait on a mod.

I haven't had a chance to give this a listen yet, but someone did say so in another thread.

I am actually more inclined to agree with the "Shardblades cannot cut aluminum" version, it makes more sense to me. The reason Blades can cut anything so effortlessly is not because they are super sharp, it's because they are magical. Which would make aluminum good against them. I reasoned around this after we got the previous WoB on the topic (saying that magical or not they are still sharp objects, and aluminum is a soft metal, so sure, maybe they can cut it purely based on the physical interaction), but I was never quite happy with this. Maybe both can be true. It requires a little bit of mental gymnastics to fit Brandon's seemingly contradicting answers, but it's possible.
-
This is a direct contradiction to a relatively recent WoB. @WayneSpren, best I can tell the previous WoB was yours - if that's the case, is it possible you somehow misremembered Brandon's answer? I don't see how, but I ought to ask. @Bridge4AM, in the meantime a photo of your book(s) would be lovely

Oh, buddy. Go look at the 80 pages Easter egg hunt on the map of Roshar. Or the translation of the Alethi women's script and glyph pairs. This is timid in comparison

AU is a unit for distance, but I know what you mean.

Maybe @PeterAhlstrom can drop in this thread and look over your numbers, my money is that if anyone knows, it will be him.

I've been putting off going over these, but Brandon has answered a few questions in his most recent Oathbringer status update on Reddit, and I feel we should have them in here. I am more than a little busy, however, so no pretty formatting (though if a mod wanted to edit my post and add pretty formatting, I consent). Nothing groundbreaking in here, but there are some minor worldbuilding trivia elements. I've also chosen to not list questions that got an outright RAFO, though there were a few of those. https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcow0ho/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcow2fw/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcow3ec/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcp1rxn/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcpgsyg/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcx98qx/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcxbabx/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcx9ac9/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcthael/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcthauv/?context=3 https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/5p4ydj/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_6/dcthirq/?context=3

It fits well enough, I suppose.

Check out Shallan though.

I think a reprint is very very likely. If the Elantris one is any indication, you should expect to hear about it around March - April.
-
I thought there was a relatively recent WoB confirming exactly that. Though I admit that the Stormfather's hesitance does make me doubt it.
-
Considering that Gavilar was also getting them (and was further along the path of the Bondsmith), I'd say that's as good as a fact.
-
It's possible, I guess. It's been a long time since I rethought this theory, and there have been some recent news that support and/or expand the idea. I am (slowly) listening to the Words of Radiance Graphic Audio adaptation, so I'll keep an eye (ear?) out for anything that makes Taravangian's ardent suspicious.

I believe a tag-based system would be much better than a SQL database. WoBs are more like... memos, I guess, than database entries

Actually, if my Calibre is searching correctly, the phrase "nice work" only really shows up in the Reckoners series. Couple of other stories feature it once (and I didn't check the Alcatraz series), but it barely shows up in the others (and not once in Mistborn): Sixth of the Dusk: 1 Steelheart: 5 Firefight: 5 Calamity: 3 The Rithmatist: 1
