  1. Shadesmar.
  2. For reference: Endpages (I refuse to delete my post, my image is bigger!)
  3. That's pretty disturbingly large... I will devour it!
  4. The glimpses are on a separate mailing list. If you subscribe to them you won't get any more emails after the last glimpse.
  5. Well, The Emperor's Blades is done - solid book, though the pacing felt weird in a few ways (viewpoint changes were often sudden, cliffhangers were sometimes random, action was kind of lacking in the beginning), but everything started pulling itself together after the middle, and it was a page-turner by the end. Reading Anthony Ryan's Blood Song now. Somebody here recommended it to me a while back. So far it looks enjoyable, but it very very similar to The Name of the Wind. Not that this is a bad thing, but so far it's preventing me from full immersion into the story.
  6. Well... Also, just a heads up, guys - posting the link early is actually counterproductive (at least as I see it). If you share a link, people will click it, regardless of whether it's before or after 12 PM PST - in part because timezone conversions are annoying. So even if you share Tor's Tuesday link early, it won't help anyone until the actual page comes online - at which point somebody will post it with in a matter of minutes. Don't be the guy who posts "First!"
  7. Send me a PM, willya? I'll go fill out the Google Form (or send you the information manually, w/e) when you do.
  8. Eh, at this point I am not even sure anymore. For a very long time I was a preacher for The Wheel of Time, but now I am of the opinion that Brandon is so much better, it might be a significant step down to read Jordan. In some ways, you are done with the best parts of the series; in others, you won't get to the really good stuff until the last 3-4 books. Then again, you need to go through the worst books to get there. In the end of the day, I think I'll tell you to read them, because they are important and influential books for the genre, and Brandon specifically. They are also not bad, but only about half of the books are actually good. I guess the Wheel really shines as a series, not as a collection of individual books.
  9. Gee, if only someone could call him and ask this...
  10. Does the offer still stand? I think I'd like to throw some money in the general direction of anyone willing to create pretty things for me.
  11. Hmm. I am not entirely convinced, but it might be possible then. Powering Allomancy with Breath is separated from powering Allomancy with Scadrian metals by only one degree. Burning the Tears sounds like two degrees of separation. But okay, it might be possible.
  12. Good call on the Alethi script ones. I had forgotten about those, but I know I wanted a few a while back. I'll get in touch with her.
  13. I bought a couple of The Way of Kings bookmarks way back (one side has the map of Roshar, the other one says "an epic book requires an epic bookmark"), but I lost one of them (along with Barbara Hambly's Dragonsbane...), and the other one is degrading faster and faster - I am now convinced I should've laminated it as soon as I got Brandon's signature on it, but ohwell. Anyway, I wanted to go buy some bookmarks, but I can't find anything I like. The vast majority of them are from books-turned-into-movies, there are some with boring and/or inspirational (but not related to books) quotes, but nothing that really catches the eye. I was hoping for something minimalistic, but beautiful... but I can't find it. Any ideas?
  14. Without the white? He is just another Shin then.
  15. It's a big leap. Rysn's simile is pretty standard for describing something like the Shin grass - later on she calls it stupid. I wouldn't read much into this.
  16. I think the Investitures would be incompatible. The sDNA is Mistborn allows them to use metals to access the power of Preservation. My best guess is that even if a Mistborn could burn the Tears, at best it would allow them to use their own Breath for Awakening.
  17. The physical realm seems to behave pretty much the same way, yes. But there is this pesky bit about the other two realms - cognitive and spiritual - which I always imagine kind of overlaying the physical (though that's my stupid brain barely comprehending the idea of four dimensions of a single realm). So while the physical realm, by itself, behaves like our universe, interaction with the other two can change things a bit. Intent, for example, is kind of a big deal in the Cosmere - so newagers* would be more correct in there than here. The thing is, it's probably difficult, if not impossible, to isolate just the physical realm and look at its properties, because all around the Cosmere the three realms are interconnected (as far as we know). The best candidate for such study would be vacuum, where the cognitive realm at least is diminished to (almost?) nothing. But we still don't know anything about the spiritual one, so it's very possible that even the basic laws of physics we all (should) know don't hold there the same way they do in our world. The Cosmere equivalent of the law for conservation of momentum could include a caveat about spiritual energy (magic? Investiture?) violating said law by adding or subtracting physical energy via the spiritual realm. * The believers of the New Age are a pseudo-religious pseudo-scientific group which holds the belief that, among other things, believing in and wishing for something makes it more likely to happen.
  18. I think I'll wait until it comes out officially, and then play it on a tablet or phone when I have nothing better to do. I tried it out, doesn't feel like a game I'll sit and play on my desktop...
  19. Artwork is a good guess.
  20. Depends how big the event is. Small ones, they are usually done after a little over an hour. Most would fall between the two- and three-hours mark. A rare few would go on for more than three hours, but those are major ones.
  21. You have the right to be wrong, of course But no, if it ends up the case that the Parshendi are actually doing the whole harmony thing, then yes, you could be correct. But at this point the only listening that's been happening is to their own songs - and the different Rhythms could easily be artificial constructs as well (kind of like pitch - it exists on its own, but the labels we assign to its different values are our own).
  22. I was not being too serious in my comments. But I was going off from how Brandon says things - Renarin's name specifically is one that came up during one of the Chicago Steelheart signings. Given Feather's... mild obsession, I would've expected her to be OCD about getting it "as right" as possible. Gah, I hate it when I jokingly make fun of people and then have to explain myself. It makes me look like a colossal raging dork.
  23. Bah, you don't know that. The guys from Tor are making you think it's not to be a giveaway. Did you think of that, huh?
  24. I'm afraid kobain beat you to it.
