  1. Frankly, because I wanted to return it after I was done with it - I've got my own paper copy on the way anyway. But I'll consider, the ebook won't make me go broke...
  2. Honestly, Hoid is great. The ship is subtle.
  3. On that note, actually - are the preorders from Weller scheduled so they arrive on exactly Tuesday, or just sometime around it? Because if I don't have Words of Radiance by about 8 AM on Tuesday, I am going to Barnes & Noble and buying one. And then returning it when my signed copy arrives.
  4. I actually think it's described as curved, but I can't go above 60-65% confidence on that one.
  5. Wow. I'll be quite honest, I don't remember feeling lost. Granted, I started reading Brandon only a couple of years after he became a published writer, so I didn't have quite as much to catch up on, but still, I never felt really lost. But I think it all started with Hoid for me. Hoid, then the Cosmere, then the Words of Brandon, interviews, events, etc.
  6. Well, I vaguely remember mentions of other things we could put in the book, not just postcards - they are what I was thinking of when I said I was willing to spend some extra. Did none of them happened? And I will be happy to cover your supply costs. I'll PM you my address, but let's wait a couple of days (we have a month until Chicago), see if anyone else from the area will be attending.
  7. I am going to be at the Chicago / Skokie signing, and will be happy to help out with this. I've been terribly busy these last few... units of time that sit somewhere between weeks and months... so haven't been able to be as active in this thread as I've wanted to. But I will go to the signing, and I will participate in this project. I have no problems throwing a up to, say, $20-30 either - as long as somebody else outlines the possible venues for spending this money. Because I don't have time for creativity either... =\
  8. I wonder if this thing will have a name, similarly to how the Steelhunt did. I don't think it will be a hunt again (last one wasn't terribly well receive...), but it might still be something other than "Brandon's Secret Area of the Website"
  9. Heathens.
  10. The voice sounds like Szeth's - not only the words, but also the tone. But I don't think the quote is being literal, it could easily be a metaphor.
  11. The speaker sounds like Wit to me...
  12. Keteks* are, indeed, a wonderful idea! Any other in-world artifacts we can come up with? Aons superimposed on the map of Arelon? An Epic's portfolio / dossier, similar to the ones released with certain versions of Steelheart**? Go find a glassblower (?) and commission them to create a set of spheres (for non-commercial purposes only) with colored glass instead of gems inside? * English really ruins the beauty - the symmetry - of this word in plural... ** Speaking of which, I still haven't seen any of those. Anyone got a handy link?
  13. I am not really that concerned with spoilers. If I only had three hours, I'd be able to get through only a fraction of the book, maybe a couple of hundred pages (not-a-fun fact: being fluent in English does not mean you get to read as fast as native speakers). So I'd just torture myself. No, the "artsy" parts of the book are much more likely to be independent and self-contained, so I'd rather stick with those.
  14. Man, that's harsh.
  15. I'd probably look at the art, the endpages, the Ars Arcanum, and things like that...
  16. Meh. Getting your new releases at 9 AM on release day is overrated anyway. Messed up your entire sleep, study, and work schedule. I speak from experience.
  17. Yea, odd how turning into a being capable of only hating alienates all your friends...
  18. This looks interesting, easy, and not expensive. I'll give it some more thought over the weekend, but I suspect I will join in.
  19. I am not even sure if this could work. I guess it should, but those two are about as diametrically opposed as Preservation and Ruin. You can't really cultivate or grow something if you are trying to preserve it and keep it unchanged.
  20. We can no longer be blood brothers... You should've seen this ages ago. Sorry.
  21. Interesting. I am not sure this is as exciting or enlightening as some of the others believe, but it's interesting. We knew that Hoid knew all of the Shardholders pre-Shattering, and I strongly suspect many - if not all - of them knew each other, but untangling their relationships before the Shards ate their personalities is a cool project (rendered moot by Hoid's series, but whatevs).
  22. Yeah... One possible, maybe even likely, scenario is that Kaladin develops a belief that Amaram is corrupting either Dalinar or his generals, and so Kaladin feels it's up to himself to... act.
  23. There is a level of fanboyism (or fangirlism - the collective fanpersonism just doesn't have the same ring to it) when you feel the feels when you as much as read somebody else's reaction to a feely scene. I have now reached that level. This is Elhokar. They are out to get him. This sounds similar to the common reaction to the scene where he summoned his Shardblade and offered it to Sadeas for the bridgemen, but for a moment looked like he was about to kick some major butt. Except kind of in reverse? It's becoming a theme for Dalinar, it seems. Jasnah probably said she didn't like coffee or something...
  24. Good call. It's a different kind of artistry.
