  1. I'm sure that I'm not the first person to post something like this, but one thing about having a series that sorts people based on personality, is that you can't help but think some characters would be perfect for that group. Like in Harry Potter with the school houses, I often like to think that one character or another would be perfect for a particular order of Knights Radiant. I decided to compile a list of characters throughout the cosmere, that as far as I know have never set foot on Roshar, that suit each order of radiant. I hope to build more lists like this in the future, sorting characters from other fandoms. BondSmith-Sarene (Ellantris) Sarene seems like a natural politician to me. She not only initiates a political marriage for herself to unite two kingdoms, but works with political allies to help keep the kingdom from falling apart. Her husband Raoden might seem like a better choice, but he seems more like someone who just wants to improve the lives of people, not unite different people. WindRunner-Vin(Mistborn) A no brainer, for me. She can fly through the air in a similar manner to WindRunners, and she had to learn to care enough about people to protect them. First her friends, then the people of the empire. She struggles with exactly the same conflict with killing that Kaladin does, so she strikes me as an ideal Windrunner. SkyBreaker-Waxiliium(Mistborn Era 2) Waxillium seems more sure of his actions for killing than Vin does, and he is referred to multiple times as a lawman. He also flies through the air with his abilities, similar to WindRunners and SkyBreakers, but while he is a protecter, he sees himself as a lawman. He could probably go either way between WindRunner and Skybreaker, but I see him more as a Skybreaker. DustBringer-Hrathen(Ellantris) DustBringers are described as people who seek self mastery. This is supposed to be appropriate because of the destructive powers they wield, which seems like a good fit for Hrathen. He is a religious soldier, demonstrating his considerable control over himself during his fast in Ellantris, but he is also willing to resort to destructive means when he sees it as necessary, such as when he instigated a bloody conflict in Duladel. EdgeDancer-Fafen(Warbreaker) Most people probably don't remember that there were three princesses in Idris. But Vivenna and Siri had a sister in-between them in age. She was a monk in a country where their jobs were mostly to grow food for poor people. This seems to fit extremely well with EdgeDancers, given their attitudes and powers. TruthWatcher-Tindwyl(Mistborn) This order was tricky, since most scholars would fit the role of a TruthWatcher, but I settled on Tindwyl. Most keepers, with one major exception, seem to focus on discovering and recording knowledge, keeping a more objective and neutral position in their world's affairs. This makes it seem like most keepers would fit the role of Truthwatcher. LightWeaver-Shai(Emporer’s soul) -Another no brainer. Shai is a skilled artist (though I don't like how she uses her talent), is extremely good at lying to herself, and possesses an ability that is very similar to soulcasting. A natural LightWeaver. ElseCaller-Marasi(Mistborn Era 2) A couple of people would fit the order of ElseCallers, but it's tricky since we've only seen one so far. But I think Marasi works. She is someone that seeks to improve the world around her, but does so in an intellectual way, instead of through fighting. Her explanation of the broken window theory in Alloy of Law shows she has a scholarly side to herself, and she seems to me to be similar to Jasnah. WillShaper-Hammond(Mistborn) I struggled with WillShapers more than any other order. In the end, I chose Hammond because he is a bit of an oddball, and the WillShapers are supposed to be a diverse group. He ended up fighting for the freedom (WillShaper ideals) of the Skaa, despite initially agreeing out of a desire for riches. He is different from most Thugs due to his philosophical pondering, which is atypical to people with his powers. StoneWard-Captain Goradel(Mistborn) StoneWards are said to have ideals related to being dependable, and Gorodel seems to fit that role well. After Vin spares him, he seeks repeatedly to make himself useful, even in dire situations. From helping Skaa survive a cold winter during a siege to delivering a vital message when the world appeared to be ending. He probably does so partly out of a feeling of debt to Vin, but still impressive. What do you think?
  2. I actually considered Gaz, but the thing is, aside from him becoming a radiant (a significant achievement, to be certain) we haven't really seen him do much since he deserted Sadeas' army. Sure, he's supported Shallan, but that was for a second chance and out of loyalty, and we haven't really seen him do anything to confront who he was. I think he definitely has the potential to become one of the series' most improved characters, and I'm hoping that happens in book 5, but he hasn't really shown that yet.
  3. Feruchemy doesn't really preserve anything, it just stores attributes. All Feruchemy really does is change the timing and rate of use of the attribute stored.
  4. Personally, out of Mistborn era 2, my favorite has been Shadow of Self. Alloy of law seemed like a prologue, setting things up for the era. But SoS not only linked back to the original trilogy, but helped set up a lot of future possibilities with Trell. And also told a pretty good story.
  5. I agree. Especially since we got a pretty good look at what his life as a slave was like during the interludes of WoK.
  6. Yes, please. I haven't read very many of them.
  7. Has Sanderson confirmed that? I know Atium users counter each other that way, but it seems like the shards' sight should cancel each other completely, if they were acting on the same world. Renarrin seems to be a complete blindspot for Odium. Presumably, Rlain is as well. If two shards exist on the same world and each are interacting and trying to influence things on the whole planet, then it seems like neither should be able to see anything. I get that it probably works somewhat differently for shards, but I've actually been curious about this for a while. The only theory I could come up with is future sight stemming from the same shard causes the interference. That's only a guess, but the only situations I can think of this happening are the previously mentioned Atium users, Rennarin, and (I assume) Rlain. Or is there another example form something I might not have read?
  8. Didn't Honor tell Dalinar in the vision with the Midnight Essence that to speak of the future was forbbiden? Maybe that's why.
  9. Honor described himself as having the ability of being able to see the future, and Harmony strongly suggested he can do it too. I think all the shards are capable of it, but maybe they don't grant the abilities because they don't want individuals like Rennarin cropping up and interfering with what their sight. Granted, Harmony could be getting it from Ruin, but I think Kelsier gets some level of access to the power through Preservation in Secret History.
  10. My brother came up with the idea and mentioned it to me. He and I think that Gaz might end up being more important in the future. He's a radiant now, but he hasn't had that much importance since WoK. Vatha is the most important of Shallan's soldier recruits. But I like your analysis of Gaz's eyepatch being metaphorical too.
  11. I hadn't considered that. I think Syl is the more likely one, but that's possible.
  12. I've had similar thoughts about him, since I thought he might be able to sense Syl in WoK. He kept mentioning his eye patch around Kaladin, and I thought it might be related to Syl. I figured he had potential as a radiant, and I would be very surprised if acknowledging his part in how the bridgemen were treated will not be one of his ideals. True, he couldn't have changed how the army used bridgemen, but he didn't really do anything to protect them either.
  13. I had a similar idea, but for the Midnight Mother, Re-Shaphir. I assumed that she was someone (not sure who) that Odium ripped apart the soul of to make them into an unmade. I don't know if they were supposed to be a herald or not, but it's an interesting idea. It was just a theory, but I thought that was what all of the unmade were, similar to people like Amaram who had been promised great power.
  14. I'm actually not much of a fan of her either. The way she executed the bandits in WoK really frustrated me. Even more so when I found out exactly how powerful she is, since that meant she could have stopped them without killing them. She also showed how ruthless she is when she suggested killing the heralds to set up the oath pact again. Logical perhaps, but also ruthless. Although, to be fair, she can be entertaining at times. The chapter where she baits Ruthar into dueling her is probably my favorite chapter in RoW.
  15. The Sibling didn't promise. Spren can't break promises. The chapter specifically mentions that the Sibling never actually said it would heal him, but it sure sounds like the Sibling made implications. My point is that it took advantage of Dabid, knowing that he was mentally impaired.
  16. It comes up during Dabid's conversation with Rlain during Dabid's POV chapter, chapter 85.
  17. Something that's been bothering me since I read RoW was how the Sibling treated Dabid. We never actually witness their conversations, but Dabid was acting under the impression that he was doing what he/she wanted in order to bond with the Sibling. Does this bother anyone else? The Sibling claims that he/she is done bonding with humans throughout RoW, and appears to bond Navani at the end mostly out of necessity. But Dabid thought that the Sibling was going to bond him, even though he/she hadn't specifically said so. It's possible that Dabid simply made the assumption that the Sibling intended to bond him, but it seems likely to me that the Sibling probably chose Dabid to act for him/her for that exact reason. It feels like the Sibling took advantage of Dabid. During their conversations in RoW, the sibling complains repeatedly that humans are "so good with words", calling them manipulative. But isn't what the Sibling did with Dabid extremely manipulative too? Stating that Dabid was injured when he was a baby and that's why he is the way he is and saying that a spren bond would heal him, strongly implying that the Sibling would bond him? Obviously the Sibling is angry with humans, both for the Recreance (out of ignorance) and for the imprisoning of spren in fibrials, and that's understandable. However, he/she also seems to think less of humans for being "so good with words", despite being willing to be manipulative too.
  18. I was expecting Rlain to be a bond smith since the end of WoR, when I heard the bond smith second ideal. I was expecting to swear to bring men and singers together. Truthwatcher fits him too, but having singer/listener as one of the most important radiants would have been interesting.
  19. Agreed. And Kelsier dances a little too close to the dark side for me to see him as a Hero of Ages.
  20. That sounds fair. It'll be interesting to see how Hoid responds. If he's still determined to stop Odium, that would actually support my brother's theory, a little. Or maybe he'll just get annoyed and want to get even, lol.
  21. Well, that's assuming Hoid knows Rayse is dead. I'm not convinced he does. I thought that was the point of RoW's epilogue. Hoid always seemed untouchable and one step ahead of everyone else, but Taravangian managed to get the better of him. Which if true, is kind of terrifying.
  22. I bet Jasnah could understand. He even explains a little to Shallan, which I've never understood. And sneaking around gathering power quietly just feels like a villain thing to do. And yet he's still asking for Harmony's help. It feels kind of weird (to me at least) to ask for help from someone that you're not trusting. I agree completely that he'd want to assess what kind of person Harmony is before communicating with him, but trust goes two ways. Again, I agree, it is kind of circular. It seems like everyone thinks the reason why Hoid wants to get rid of Odium is because he's evil, or because of Hoid's past grudge against him. But this possible reason for his motivation is kind of intriguing to me. Overall, this is mostly just a gut feeling on my part. When my brother first mentioned this theory to me, I had the same reaction you did. But over time, it started to feel more likely. It all just seems to fit so well. And I (like Dhalinar) trust my hunches.
  23. Well, he's been sneaking around various world's, gathering power, and doesn't seem interested in explaining himself to anyone. He seems to be hiding his true nature behind a mask of mockery and joking, but you can catch a hint of seriousness every now and then. He's managed to avoid the notice of Harmony, despite the fact that he's asked Harmony's help in appealing to the other Shards. Most of the help he's provided has been in stopping Odium, who basically intends to conquer the cosmere, which means he'd be in Hoid's way. Most of the other shards also appear to be distrustful of him. All of that together just smells like he's biding his time, waiting for the right moment to make his move. It's mostly just a feeling on my part, but it seems like it would fit so well. Having the final big bad be present in almost every book along the way with nobody noticing it until the very end.
  24. I kept thinking that his plan was to become a new Adonalsium. I don't think he wants to go to war over it, but I think he believes something can be achieved only with the combined powers off all the shards in one person. Maybe he doesn't even intend to become a full Adonalsium, but a smaller scale one with more freedom. My brother and I think he might end up being the final enemy in the cosmere.
  25. I agree with what you said about Ruin. Hero of Ages definitely felt more desperate than things have ever felt in Stormlight. And Ruin felt more terrifying than Odium, but I think that's partly because we have a better understanding of what Odium is than we did of Ruin.
