Yes exactly! Charles Dickens or Fitzgerald, while great authors, just aren't very accessible especially if you arent used to reading classics
One Hundred Years of Solitude is a truly beautiful and breathtaking book!
I'n glad i could help you both out!

You’re reading The Prince? I also have the book (though I haven’t gotten around to… well, opening it) so maybe I’ll give it a try. Also, thanks for the book recommendations!

Seriously is it my third status update of the day?
You guys are heroes for keeping up with the notifications
Soooo
Ive been, albeit very slowly, listening to the magnus archives because szeth facepalm reccomended it and their recommendations are always top tier
(Tho i got terrified of it and left it for a bit in the middle there)
They also happened to reccomend welcome to nightvale which honestly sounds like my kind of bizzare
I just started listening to the first episode
And you know what
Imagine this
I live on the 11th (top) floor of my building and theres a terrace here. Its currently 8pm and the only lights are the lights from the cityscape around me. there is no one else on the terrace. its completely silent. And im just leisurely taking a walk while listening to this and it starts off by talking about how nightvale is a place where they all pretend to sleep and about this weird as heck dog park thats neither for dogs nor for humans
is this a good idea
We'll see
What im going to do is try to listen to one episode of the magnus archives and welcome to nightvale each day and that should be something. Hopefully it will be enough to help me get a bit over my horror fear as fear is no reason to not do something which genuinely interests you

Yessss
And you know i saw this thing online that said that TMA was so scary because at times it presented even subjects of comedic value with such horrific delivery
While Nightvale is the exact opposite
Subjects that should ge terrifying are presented with such cheerful and comedic delivery you find yourself laughing at them

Yeaaah ik
But im excited because first of all the space in my house for books is steadily running out
There are some books that are just far too expensive in india or flat out arent available
And so by downloading them onto the kindle i could get to read them, get the reader experience and not have to worry about anything else
(Like Babel when it was released here it was around 5000 rupees which is basically 60 dollars. And idk how much 60 dollars is there but its a LOT here and ive had to wait to get cause buying it at that price just isnt justified)

why do you read they ask
isnt it becoming something of an obsession? they say
They dont understand, can never understand, will never understand
will never understand that when sometimes you dont want to be yourself. Sometimes you wanna be swept up away, you just want to forget.
they dont understand when nobody ever cared, characters were there. That when nobody was there to read you bedtime stories, you learned to read them to yourself.
that when nobody was there to hold you, you allowed language to put its soothing arms around you, and tangle up in your heart.
oh words weren't always good, especially when they came from the mouth of others
freak
weirdo
strange
but you eventually learned to ignore those harsh words, learned to find refuge in books, learned that those same syllables that made those words so cruel, could make others so beautiful
(perhaps you could be beautiful too)
You ask me why i read
you ask me why dont i do something more productive
i say, i read to know one thing and one thing only- that i am not alone.
i say, you will never understand; can understand.
I say, when love's been given to you on a sliver spoon, you never have to learn what it is like to starve for it.
and so you remain ignorant
but that's okay
-
That's beautiful, and so relatable it hurts.

I have my own experience with this. I will not say that it’s the same, but, if it helps, know that there is someone who’s been through something similar.
Books are a place where I can finally not stress. I don’t have to care what they think of me. I don’t have to be perfect and I don’t have expectations on my shoulders. I can just read and live in someone else’s body for a bit.Honestly, the reason perfect main characters with perfect lives annoy me is that I know that my reality will never be that way, and it kind of hurts to see someone have it so easy. … Wow, I sound like a terrible person.
But anyway. You’re not a freak, or a weirdo, or strange. You’re really awesome and relatable and kind. Also, you have great taste in books

I love summer. We have pretty good weather where I live and the hottest it’s ever gotten is 48C it usually around 27-37. Hot but not too hot
-
My birthday is in summer so by default I must like it.
Sorry about the heat...

My brain breaks thinking about 40 C during what is sill basically winter. It's snowing here and last night the temperature was -21 C which is like -6 Fahrenheit. Last summer was 35 C in my country and that was like a record.
Though I did live in Arizona once so I can relate.

I started reading the blade itself
Because ive had this series on my shelf for a long time
I reached chapter 2 and
i think it may be too dark for me
Idk i thought id really like this considering The Poppy War is one of my all time favourite series
But i think theres this general feeling of hopelessness in the entire novel and like you know i love dark flawed unlikable characters (my profile photo is tom riddle for salazars sake)
But
theres just something about these characters that i find downright repulsive
*shudders
I dont think im gonna be reading this
