  1. Huh. I did not read that rule. I think you're right in your interpretation of it, though. So to get the full reduction you need to vote at least once each turn. You're also right about spreading the vote; I had completely forgotten about the Masters' role in the complaint process. This is good news, though; it means that we have a way to force more dire consequences if we need to, by narrowing the vote to only a few players. I had been worrying about the apparent impotence of this game's lynch. To help spread the vote further, I'll level my votes at Mashadar Mistborn, who, if I'm understanding Wilson correctly, is still technically in the game and therefor a valid target, and at Neodymium, who has not been seen or heard from since he signed up.* I understand and even accept the vote on myself, but if you're looking for those best able to bear the penalty, why choose Araris, and not irulelikeSTINK, the other Vint? *Note: I know the same can be said for Thisismyusername, but in his case I have his constant assurances that he is doing everything he can to get caught up and start playing despite a busy schedule. And, as Lopen has pointed out, the Aturan can better afford the possible disciplinary action.
  2. Okay, I'm seeing this mistake from a lot of people. Guys, only one vote per full cycle counts toward tuition reduction. If you only vote once this turn, then not at all next turn, it will have the same effect as if you vote twice both turns. The rules specify a flat deduction of 5 jots if you file a complaint, not 5 jots for each complaint you file. If you have no reason to vote besides tuition, you should only vote once each cycle. BB, I recognize that there is some suspicion behind your votes, so this may not apply to you; your comment just brought it to mind. If you want to keep your abilities to yourself, that's fine, but is there anything else you can tell us about these suspicions? How strong are they? Perhaps you could use these same abilities to find someone who you trust somewhat, then reveal it in PM? Role powers are nice aids to help find Eliminators, but they're only really effective when the results become part of Village discussion.
  3. Before we can start trying to get rid of the Skindancers, we need a sound strategy for identifying them. This game hasn't got any Seeker roles (except Namers, because they can apparently do anything), so we're gonna need to get creative. I've been thinking about some about identification methods, and I've come up with a couple tricks. First, Linguistic Analysis can be a very powerful tool for confirming Villagers. Being able to tell when someone is lying is useful, but being able to tell when they're telling the truth can be far more incredible. When I first saw this ability, I thought to myself, 'okay, I'll just tell an obvious lie every turn, and they'll never be able to tell'. But what if I didn't? From this point forward, I intend to make it a point to tell only the truth -- and every turn, I will publicly make the claim that I am not a Skindancer. I encourage you all to do the same. Now, as soon as a player gains Linguistic Analysis, all they need do is check me once, and they will have ironclad proof of my identity. Fae Lore can be similarly used, if set up properly. Anyone with Fae Lore can ask another player to use an ability that will be clearly visible, like purchasing and using couriers. Then, the Archivist in question uses Fae Lore. If the tested player is able to act anyway, they are clean, because Fae Lore only affects Skindancers. Lastly, I'd like to note that with nahlrout, using a plum bob becomes risk free. That's what I've got. This game's a tricky one, but it's not impossible to start forming trust circles. That's something we desperately need to do, because a lot of these abilities are far less useful if no one knows about them. Oh, and before I forget: I am not a Skindancer.
  4. BB: Then exchange some coins with an assassin in a dark alley or something! The votes you are leveling now are not attacks against Wilem. They are attacks against Mailliw. If you have nothing against Mailliw, then PLEASE make your attacks in RP. If you want, you can actually RP complaining to the Masters without coloring Maill's name. Well, at least I know where to put my tuition-reduction vote: Bridge Boy, I find your apparent conviction and subsequent lack of explanation suspicious.
  5. So you're leaving a double-vote on him, which raises his total vote count to four? RP is great, and half the fun of Elimination, but the key word there is half! When you are actively and aggressively pursuing negative repercussions for a player, as a result of what their character has done, I feel you may be taking it a tad far. You say your character would, if given the option, kill Wilem. Does that mean that if you had a kill power, you would use it, actually taking Maill out of the game? You don't need to rely on game mechanics to take actions in roleplay. MoA wants to publicly decry Wilem? Have him get on a soap box and give a speech in some square. Want him dead? You don't need the game's permission to kill Maill; you can roleplay a poisoning attempt, or a knife in the dark, or a room fire, or anything you want! Please, don't make mechanical decisions with character-based motivations. I realize that you probably want to put one vote down for tuition reduction. And since we have so little information, you'd likely be voting semi-randomly anyway, so RP seems like as good a reason as any to vote for someone. But you don't need to place both your votes, and you definitely shouldn't put them where they can do the most possible harm to one of the most active players currently playing! Please, reconsider your options, and react to Wilem in a different way. Mark, I'm pretty sure Sev wouldn't miss a lost book if it had cost him 20 talents, much less if it was just a glorified spiral notebook. So if you don't mind, I'm going to modify the first page a little, to make things more interesting: In fancy engraved letters, it reads "Property of Seventh Son Resterford". Beneath that, a handwritten note reads, Sev, I know you're upset with your father and me for making you go to that school, but it's for your own good. I hope you don't let being mad keep you from making some new friends and having fun. I got you this journal so you can write things in it. Love and kisses, Mum There. That might get his interest. Where was it? Where the SEVEN BLOODY CHANDRIAN was it?!? Why, why, WHY hadn't he burned the thing the second he'd opened it? Sev continued ripping his way through his room, tossing his belongings aside, tearing furniture to pieces. At one point, a servant girl peeked into the room, but when she saw his expression, she gave a mousish squeak and ducked back out without saying anything. Eventually, he settled down on an upturned armchair, his head in his hands. It wasn't here. The bloody thing wasn't BLOODY here. he threw a miraculously preserved crystal goblet against the wall, shattering it. He must have dropped the book somewhere around the University. And with the way these peasants dug through the mud and filth for scraps, there was no way it had remained undiscovered. Some filthy peasant had found Mother's accursed journal, and was even now leafing through its pages with their grimy little fingers. Okay. He needed to take a step back. What was written in the journal? He couldn't recall writing anything incriminating, so there was that. There was Mother's inscription on the cover. Sev grimaced, but that could be dealt with. It really cast more shame on Mother than on him, anyway. And... there was his name. No matter how he tried to avoid the thought, it was there. His full bloody name was engraved in big golden letters on the front page of the book, for all the world to see. He groaned. He was going to be a laughingstock. Still, no sense dallying. Sev stood, and walked around the wreckage. He threw open his door, startling several gawkers who had been drawn by the commotion. Slamming the door behind him, he set out to find his stupid book.
  6. Actually, the rules say cycle. I was assuming that cycle meant turn, because that was more lenient. Can we get a ruling on this, as well? Also, I really can't see an individual's thread contributions as being nearly so critical at this stage as impressing Masters and gaining some village-boosting abilities. Can you honestly say that the conversation so far has accomplished enough to be called the most important part of the game? Obviously, later, discussion becomes paramount, but that's after we have something to discuss.
  7. That's fine. I'm a little irked that he is ignoring me. Just thought I would make you aware. Mark, I may join you to a small degree, but my RP involvement in this game is unfortunately limited. I don't have a lot of time, lately, and so I've really only been skimming the RP. So, we'll see. Do our characters have a relationship, or not? So far, I've basically been snobby and standoffish. I resent being forced to study at the University, so I limit my involvement with its students. It's a useful cover for my real-world lack of involvement.
