After I started to think about it more, there may be quite a few ways that Southern Scadrial's mag-tech could be used. Here's a few ideas I came up with- most of them use the idea of being able to let inanimate objects use Allomancy or Feruchemy, as we've already seen that is possible with the Malwish airships. Weight reducer: This one actually exists already, but we've only seen it in action on the Malwish airships, making them light enough to fly. But it also could be used to make transporting heavy goods or perhaps for construction (moving heavier parts of building and such around when building them). You could also make a BIG sentry gun, reduce its weight to move it around, then increase its weight beyond normal when firing to give it a better footing. Big firepower for the military. Heat Manipulators: Using Feruchemical brass, you could create a device that could quickly melt holes through thick metal doors, possibly useful for spies and such for breaking into secure vaults (only thing I was creative enough to come up with, though I'm more than open to other ideas of how to use this device). You could also create a suit that reduces and regulates the heat of the wearer as well as itself. When moving into extreme environments, such as a frozen mountain top or the inside of an active Ashmount (yes, I know that they're not active currently, but let's pretend for a moment, shall we?), you could protect the wearer and their equipment- an improvement over natural brass Feruchemy. You could probably use the suit to protect a Steelrunner from friction as well, but they'd have to be moving fast before they'd really need it. Temporal Trains: By harnessing Bendalloy and cadmium to create an Alcubierre drive, allowing for faster than normal travel. Bullet trains (Bendalloy trains?) could create Speedbubbles to speed up the train's movement while using cadmium to negate the temporal effects on its passengers (F-steel might also work in place of Bendalloy and cadmium, but seems somewhat less viable). Basically, a lesser version of FTL travel, but for trains. Speaking of FTL travel, an obvious use for such a device is on spaceships once Scadrial gets the necessary technology. Pewter-strengtheners: Through the use of Allomantic pewter you could create items with an enhanced durability and toughness. One potential application for this would be creating shields or suits of armor for the Scadrien military that were lightweight but strong (basically, another way to create Half-Shards). F-iron may also be able to aide in creating such shields and armors. You may even be able to replicate Shardplate, though it likely would be less efficient (wouldn't self-repair, requires Godmetals to fuel it). A more constructive use for A-pewter used mechanically would be to strengthen buildings, allowing for larger than normal structures to exist. You'd need a constant use of Harmonium however, so it would likely be risky, especially if a shipment of the Godmetal was interrupted or if such a structure were used by the Northern Scadriens but the Southern Scadriens refused to sell them more Harmonium (such as if a war broke out). Coppermind Technology: Now, this one has some interesting potential applications. You could create a Coppermind archive that anyone could access (basically just a big Unsealed Coppermind), using it to store personal memories or to store information on all kinds of things. If you could figure out how to copy those memories you could quickly spread information that would have taken more time to do so (F-zinc could help process it faster too). You may be able to use this design to create a "CopperWeb" that could let people all over Scadrial share memories with each other. You could perhaps even make a real-time (or past-time) VR themed device by copying memories and transferring them to others over the CopperWeb. Depending on the extent of F-duralumin's abilities, you may even be able to make the CopperWeb wireless by using Connection (the spiritual kind ) rather than physically connecting the whole thing with copper wires. Future Sight Devices: This one is basically just a big Unsealed Metalmind that allows for enhanced access to F-zinc and A-electrum (and possibly A-duralumin), but it could be used to give people the ability to see into the future, which would be of use to leaders of Scadrial who want to look out for its best interests. Identity-Modification: I'm not sure to what extent this could be used, but though F-aluminum, F-gold, and possibly F-copper you may be able to modify the appearance of people. I could see this being used as a form of magical plastic surgery, giving those with the money the ability to appear unnaturally beautiful, similar to Returned. Potentially this could be used for those that are running from the law, or those that are acting as spies. Mist Condensation: This one is more of a guess, so it's on the bottom of my personal list. Using the Tones of Preservation and Ruin, Scadriens may be able to directly draw the Mists into a more concentrated, usable form. You'd also need to strip it of its Identity as well (it seems that it is tied to Sazed, hence the reason Mistings can't just use them to fuel their powers), but if using the Mists to fuel Invested tech became possible, you could make mass production of all the other devices possible. This would be especially useful for large structures that needed A-pewter or F-iron to make them stand, as the fuel necessary to make it happen would become much cheaper and more reliable. In any case, these are some of the ideas that I came up with for Scadrien mage-tech. If anyone else would like to add some ideas, I'd love to hear them

In Row and even in OB, we see that Maya has more awareness and ability to act than other Deadeye Spren. I hypothesize the reason for this is Adolin's Bond with her. There are two reasons I can think of that would make their Bond unique, leading to at least a partial recovery for her mind. 1. Adolin exemplifies the ideals of the Edgedancers. We know that one of the reasons that Kaladin was able to resist the corrupt Sibling's suppression in RoW was because he was closer to Honor's ideal of the Windrunners than normal. From what we've seen of Adolin, he seems to naturally follow the ideals of the Edgedancers, which would create a stronger Connection to his Spren than other Shardbearers would have. I believe that this improved Connection is at least partially responsible for Maya's cognitive improvement. 2. Adolin has a more "personal" Connection with Maya than normal. Most Shardbearers see their weapons as precious, powerful tools. Adolin seemed to have a greater, more personal appreciation of his Shardblade than other did, with him talking to Maya even before he knew she was a cognizant being. This would also help form more Connections between Adolin and Maya, thus helping Maya's recovery. Minor Mistborn spoilers- In any case, these are the reasons I could find that would explain why Mayalaran has been healing to a degree and why no other Deadeyes seem to be doing that.

What will Sja-Anat do with Nightblood if they meet?
Trusk'our replied to FuzzyLogic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Toadium is probably more cautious as well as smarter. Might remain a possibility, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen again. -
Yeah, so long as you don't take away too much of the original bone it would probably be safe. Intriguing. I don't know whether that hints towards aluminum being a field effect or not, but still very interesting.

That sounds like an interesting idea. It should work, as far as I can tell. Though yeah, a Coinshot or Lurcher isn't going to want a full aluminum-threaded shirt, or it would interfere with their pushes or pulls. That's definitely an option, but most people I think would hesitate to implement it. Plus, it costs a lot to get that kind of surgery. Also, I don't think that deliberately replacing parts of your skeleton with metal would be healthy; you need it to produce new blood cells, so even if Metalborn don't get metal poisoning, it's probably not a great idea for overall health. Maybe smaller implants/replacements would be acceptable though.

Interesting. I suppose that makes sense, given the WoB about aluminum-lined hats. Also, here's the WoB about the effects of aluminum not being line-of-sight strictly. This also probably means that a Kandra couldn't become immune to being controlled by using aluminum, though it would add some resistance.

Manufacturing Hemalurgic Spikes With Forgery and F-Duralumin
Trusk'our replied to Trusk'our's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It would definitely require a decent amount of Investiture, though probably not nearly as much as what we saw in TLM. As for whether the power disappears after being taken by the spike, I don't think that would happen, since the WoB I used says that using Hemalurgy to take a Forged power is possible- it would be very misleading if Brandon said it that way and the reality was that the power could be taken but that it would evaporate after a few seconds, and that just isn't his style. And as for the killing a sapient computer... yeah, that could be a problem. I think it would depend on whether you could, with Intent, create a device that was only as aware as a Malwish medallion and still spike it or whether it has to be more Nightblood level alive for the spiking to work- Spiking a barely aware object intended for that specific purpose = okay, in my opinion. Spiking something like M-bot... oof. -
yes, that is the part. Sorry I couldn't find it earlier. Based on the fact that Returned's appearance is based on the cultural views of the populace, I'd say that this very well may be true. So, it seems that the Royal Locks are a combination of Returned lineage (though not technically genetics) and the perception of the populace. I guess that means no gambling it away. Oh well.

If it's a field effect for All Investiture and not just Emotional Allomancy, yeah, then it may still work. Covering it with more aluminum makes it less susceptible, so I think that would work to improve it.

We know that it's already possible to take Invested powers made through Forgery with Hemalurgy (WoB). We also know that Southern Scadrial is finding ways to let inanimate objects use Feruchemy and Allomancy using Harmonium. We know that it's possible to Hemalurgically spike inanimate objects so long as they are "alive" enough (WoB). And finally, we know that you can force a Forgery to take on someone it wasn't intended for so long as their soul is "familiar" with the soul of the person who was intended to be stamped (basically, Connections must exist between the two). So, with that in mind, I hypothesize that you could make a Forgery to stamp a Scadrien (let's name him Joe for fun ) into an Allomancer or Feruchemist, then make a device that used Feruchemical duralumin to Connect to Joe. You then place the Forgery on the device instead of the Joe. Even though the Forgery won't take for long, you don't need it to last more than a second or two to Hemalurgically spike out the Invested power. And there you go, no people spiked but one Hemalurgic spike Invested with one Metalborn power. Get enough Investiture to use and you may be able to mass produce Hemalurgic spikes this way.

What will Sja-Anat do with Nightblood if they meet?
Trusk'our replied to FuzzyLogic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That should work. In fact, changing Nightblood's Command would be "easy" as a Forgery, though you'd need a LOT of Investiture to make the Forgery stick due to Nightblood's enormous mass of Investiture. So Sja-Anat may be able to pull it off if Nightblood's currently in a food coma (probably from offing another one of the Unmade). -
I think that would be a very plausible stamp, and would take easily. One question to ask though; if the structure breaks as a result of a Forgery, can the item "fix" itself once it's happened? Because a wall that has crumbled into mush already probably would stay broken, even if the Forgery didn't stay due to it breaking (which would probably happen; there isn't enough of the wall left to maintain the Forgery, though it would probably stay broken). So yes, I think that would absolutely work. Huh. That's some outside the box thinking. So, you want to use the ring to stamp someone you hit anywhere on their body so that it rewrites the hit to knock them out? I'd say... technically that could work, though in practical application it would be hard to achieve; you'd need to make universal stamp, which would likely be harder for a person than an object, and you'd need to get enough of their "history" to make the stamp stick (objects and entities wish to be seen as a whole, so you can't easily Forge just a part of them). You'd also need to be able to actually stamp them, which requires a solid contact with their skin. But, if your goal is just to knock them out, perhaps you could make a universal stamp that would take just long enough to make what you want work (it you want to do less lingering damage to them, this may also be a way to achieve that). I'm... confused. So, you want to create a stamp-spear, and it rewrites your opponents history to say that the real spear you have at home was taken and stabbed through the person stamped? If so... yes? I think that would work. I'll admit, I think it's a little convoluted, but I certainly wouldn't see it coming, so your enemy probably wouldn't either. I think that this one is even more likely than the previous two, especially if you have well-made universal stamps at your disposal. Too much extra damage after the Forgery took would break the seal though, causing the Forgery to fail and returning the armor to its original state. Could be useful for the army of MaiPon potentially. Though, Forgeries do have a little "force" that protects them from physical harm. Maybe you could use a large stamp that covered a breastplate or other piece of armor to increase its total durability and soften blows against the wearer? Yes, we have a WoB stating that if a Forgery caused someone to die, they'd stay dead since either the Soul has passed on to the Beyond or because Forgery just doesn't naturally have enough Investiture to bring someone back from the Cognitive Realm. As for what the autopsy detects, I think that your corpse would return to its normal, "healthy" state, so it would look like your spirit just got ejected from your body with no physical damage done (which, kind of did happen, after a fashion). Very interesting ideas. I enjoyed reading them quite a bit.

Lol, Probably. Still, you might be able to do... something interesting with it. I agree completely (wish it existed IRL). Although, electrum Feruchemy kind of does that already (and more directly and more easily too). Storing would be a pain though.

Glad to see you found a Perpendicularity. Welcome to the 17th Shard ! (hope to see what you think of some of my ideas )

The third quote is the one is the one I'm referring to in the OP. That and the one scene in Warbreaker where Vivenna talks about it.
-
Yeah, pulling on the opposite side probably would negate the whole purpose of the aluminum, since it isn't in close enough proximity to the Feruchemist's Spiritweb to be influenced by their Investiture.

One of the weaknesses of Feruchemy in combat on Scadrial is that your Metalminds are ussually at least somewhat susceptible to being Allomantically pushed or pulled on. However, we've seen that aluminum lined bags or aluminum canteens can make Allomancer's metals immune to being touched, so what if a Feruchemist did the same? Could they coat the outside of a Metalmind bracer or braclet with aluminum, but leave the inside strip (the one that touches their skin) unlined so as to make it immune to Steelpushing and Ironpulling?

Forgery Overwriting Hemalurgic Constructs
Trusk'our replied to Trusk'our's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Had a new idea to add to this thread (but wasn't original enough to justify making a new one). Flesh Forgery seems to specifically target the physical aspect, but not touch the spiritual or cognitive. I wonder if, instead of changing the past of the Koloss or Hemalurgic construct if you could record their body structure before they turned into a construct, make a Flesh Forgery stamp of it, then use it one them to overwrite their physical aspect to be their original human one. It would be like a Lord Ruler type situation, with the body trying to move away from the natural spiritual aspect. Even if you needed a little extra boost of Investiture for your stamp to overpower the physical changes brought on by human attribute spikes, I think you could do it in order to gain the magical benefits of those spikes without the warping side-effects. -
In Warbreaker, Vivenna says that only those who are in line for the throne of Idris have the Royal Locks; even her children who wouldn't be in line wouldn't have them. This has made me wonder, is it possible to get the Royal Locks through a method that isn't lineage (not Hemalurgy, we already know that's possible)? Hypothetical scenario time; Let's say Hoid wants the Royal Locks, but clearly isn't born of the Idrian royal line. He travels to Idris and plays a game of cards with king Dedelin, pitting his (insert magical item here) against Dedelin's Kingdom. Hoid is very persuasive. Hoid (obviously) wins the game, and therefore wins the rulership of Idris. Now the question I have is, does Hoid now exhibit the Royal Locks, or would the former king Dedelin still have them?

Thanks! I appreciate it

That's another question actually; can Kandra effect their bones with things like F-gold or A-pewter (the latter especially, since a super-strength Kandra would then be limited by their bone's natural strength)?

In The Emperor's Soul, Shai mentions that there is a high likelihood that Ashravan's mind would eventually accept the changes made by his Soulstamp and he would no longer need to receive a new stamping each morning. I think I have an idea for how this might work, and perhaps the extent to which Soulstamps can be made permanent without any other magic system hacks. Think of it this way; a Forger (let's call him Jim) stamps himself so that his past self was slightly more proactive, giving himself a year of training with the sword. The Forgery takes well, as he's always wanted to use the blade, he just never had enough motivation or money to easily or consistently practice it. Jim continues to stamp himself each day, practicing and using his sword and winning duels- laying Connections and in his Spiritweb of having skill with the sword and forming memories in his Cognitive aspect. Even though the fake Connections and memories fade, the new Connections and memories don't'- they are natural and will stay even after the stamp falters. As such, Jim will continue to build up these Connections and memories until he has skill comparable to, and perhaps beyond, what he had originally Forged into himself. As for Invested abilities Forged into the Spiritweb (such as Allomancy), I don't think that they will stay; they are formed from extra Investiture added to the Spiritweb, not just Connection. As such, even if you used a power a lot that had been Forged into the Spiritweb and made lots of natural Connections to it, it would still vanish with the rest of the unnatural changes made by the Forgery. (As a side note, I don't think that the temporary powers are made of Kinetic Investiture, as they can be stolen and used by Hemalurgy- otherwise they'd disperse right after being captured inside a spike without any fuel to maintain them-, but they must use Kinetic Investiture from the Soulstamp to be Forged and to remain in place.) Still, lots of potential for permanent Forgery, I'd say. I'd love to hear your guy's thoughts on the matter

In most cases, Kandra really don't need Feruchemical gold; they already have a "cheaper" yet nearly as effective version of healing as part of their natural ability to change shape. However, I had an interesting thought about F-gold and Kandra when I came up with a Kandra Warrior for a thought experiment. Basically, if a Kandra used self-perception in the right way, could they use F-gold to grow a larger body? For example, could they grow extra mass for creating bigger muscles using F-gold? Another question that arises is, can Kandra fill a Goldmind better than a human? Their shape shifting probably doesn't directly count, but could they find a way to sculpt their body to be able to store more health at a given time?

That probably would be the case, at least, if you did manage to spike out all 16 powers, the Mistborn would be in very poor condition. Especially if it's an unexperienced Hemalurgist doing the excisions; less practice, less skill, the more the each spiritual "cut" is more like a ragged tear, causing more damage than necessary.
