  1. Welcome the Shard! Hope you enjoy it here
  2. I think that he's tied to Scadrial because he's Connected to Preservation- Kelsier is a Sliver of Preservation and as such has an unnaturally strong Connection to that Shard. However, Preservation itself is bound to Scadrial, which binds Kel by association. But if Preservation was Connected sufficiently to another planet, there would be a similar force drawing the Shard's presence their, allowing the Vessel to peer in and meddle with things there, out allowing Kel to travel to that place. The Connection is what's keeping him "alive", so severing it would end up killing him completely. Perhaps if you could reroute his Connection to something else or change his Investiture to another Shard's somehow (such as Hemalurgically spiking it out and replacing it with F-gold fueled by Endowment, thus replacing that Spiritweb and its Connection) you could allow him to leave Scadrial without straight up killing him. Yeah, there's some merit there- the farther the planet is from Scadrial (meaning in the CR more planets in the way), the weaker the other planet's Connection to Kelsier would be, perhaps making it too weak to counteract Scadrial's own Connection. Hmmm, another hypothesis for the Cosmere's future
  3. Alright, sounds reasonable. I'll edit the original post and add the names of each Kandra trick as well as the number associated with them. Assuming that the PR physics work the way IRL's do, I see no reason why a skilled Kandra couldn't use this to their advantage. I can't really think of what circumstances would make it too useful though, as the Kandra would need to remain in physical contact with the person whose senses they were hijacking. I don't know that this would work; Kandra can manipulate their Physical Aspect as they please (with the exception of creating bone, enamel, or keratin), but their Cognitive Aspect is out of their direct control. We've seen from TenSoon that they can manipulate their senses through modeling their body in the correct fashion though, so perhaps they could try something similar, or perhaps get it to work with enough time and effort. This could be interesting- a Kandra Hemalurgist (or assassin) could use this method to more discretely steal powers or attributes from others. They would have to worry about automatically piercing their own Spiritweb with the spike though, as it is in their flesh and would be Hemalurgically charged. Sounds like a cool trick. Might be a bit weird, but I think it could work
  4. Yup, and that Compounding might be available without fear of Identity Contamination preventing it. Also, it might just make the powers granted more efficient as well, since added Connection to the Shard makes the powers operate more efficiently. Got a whole thread on it
  5. Yeah, I figured you'd need millions of Scadriens to populate a given planet, not thousands given their individual level of Investiture isn't particularly large. I'm curious; why specifically don't you think it would be enough for Kel? If the planet becomes Connected to Preservation, it should act as an anchor that would pull on him as he entered the CR, negating at least some of the force that ties him to Scadrial. If the force that binds him to his home world is negated enough, he should be able to leave the planet, I would think.
  6. Ah, that makes more sense. I think that might actually be possible, though you'd have to find a Bindpoint that worked for both H-brass and H-copper (they belong to the same Hemalurgic quadrant, so it wouldn't likely be that hard), especially considering that H-copper contains a human attribute rather than a power, so misplacement could have dire consequences for the bearer (i.e., turning into a Hemalurigc construct). Yeah, I thought it would make a cool opponent for MAG, and one of the things that would be special about facing it is that you would roll a four-sided die whenever a point of interest would come up and depending on the roll you get a different Spiritweb/personality dominant over the creature for that interaction. The different personalities react differently to given situations, so trying to convince the creature to not kill your party or to perhaps aid you in some way would require different tactics. Additionally, if you ever tried to control it via the Flaw in its Spiritweb from its spikes, swapping personalities would disrupt the control, making it particularly dangerous to manipulate in that fashion. EDIT: Yay! 1,800th post
  7. Just to clarify, you mean make a recap of all the Kandra tricks already made?
  8. Scadrien's Investiture is tied directly to spiritual genetics, so their descendants should be able to leave Scadrial and still retain their Connection to Preservation and their Allomancy as long as they don't intermix with other non-Scadriens too much. This makes me wonder; could enough Scadriens being born on another planet cause the Shard of Preservation to Connect to that planet? If I recall correctly, in TLM Marasi said something about a Perpendicularity being easier to form around a large group of Metalborn, likely due to their Invesiture. Plus, we've seen that the Everstorm (a similarly large deposit of Investiture) can be used to Connect the Fused to Roshar so as to bypass the Oathpact, probably by acting as a large source to Connect to. Basically, if this were possible, I think it may be a way for Kelsier or perhaps even the Vessel of Preservation itself to travel between worlds, as there would be a Connection to anchor them to the other world in question.
  9. So basically, you propose that attuning the Anti-Tone of Ruin while trying to charge a Hemalurgic spike would cause Preservation's Intent to overcome Ruin's, thereby allowing you to remove Ruin's Intent from the spike, thus allowing you to make better, more refined powers? I don't think that this would work as you propose- Ruin's Investiture is removing the Spiritweb fragments, so using an Anti-Tone while trying to charge a spike would probably result in the Investiture being unable to "hear" your Intent to spike someone, meaning you'd only cause a physical injury with no charging of the spike. Additionally, it is my current belief that Hemalurgic spikes are charged with Ruin's Investiture, changing the Intent of the Donor's Investiture to that of Ruin's (otherwise there should be no added Connection to Ruin from bearing more spikes, as it would still count as original Donor's Investiture, but Steel Inquisitors were definitely Connected more strongly to Ruin than Preservation). So, making Preservation dominant would probably make the Investiture of the spikes less efficient, perhaps moving one step further along the path that Hemalurgy has already taken- less powers can be added in total to a host, no Compounding, etc. I think that you could potentially make the spikes stronger by using Ruin's Tone or the correct Command or Intent however, perhaps making the ruinous aspect more dominant and thereby creating a spike that worked more like the ones of the Pre Catecendre age.
  10. Identity is at least a part of what makes Investiture resist Investiture, so if you could tap more of it, you would probably resist foreign Investitures better as well (and yes, Shardplate would work well to deflect another's attempts at controling you as well). However, I don't know if F-aluminum can allow you to tap Identity- because it can't conduct Investiture, it very well may only allow a Trueself Ferring to Blank their Identity, not save an tap more of it. This WoB seems to support this hypothesis;
  11. Well, better late than never Welcome to the Shard!
  12. The spikes are safe from burning aluminum. Perhaps if you burned aluminum you could sever any Connection forced on you, freeing you from another's control. It wouldn't be ideal to prevent said Connection from forming in the first place, but removing it would be a realistic use, I'd think.
  13. Oh, I have another thought- what about coating a spike in dried blood? The WoB I mentioned earlier says that it doesn't need to be fresh, so maybe you could keep a spike's Invested charge maintained for a while without needing to change its container.
  14. You can store a Hemalurgic spike in a cut of meat in order to trick it into thinking that it's inside an actual body, preventing a decay of its Investiture. But what about mummified bodies? Would a Steel Inquisitor that was mummified preserve the Investiture of the spikes still buried in its body? As a slightly more comical side note, would a cut of jerky be enough to preserve a Hemalurgic spike's charge?
  15. Nice! I really hope to see more Harmonium and medallion tech in the Mistborn series come era 3.
  16. Welcome to the 17th Shard! What's your favorite Cosmere magic system and why?
  17. So, I have all the memories and skills that I have in my real life? Logically, I'd probably choose era 2 Mistborn, since I could use my knowledge of Hemalurgy to quickly gain unbeatable levels of power- but that feels. . . too gritty for me, and it would be evil. I could see circumstances where such a thing could be done in a moral way, but I don't know that I'd actually be willing to do it unless the circumstances were quite extreme. Depending on how era 3 Mistborn turns out, I might end up choosing that one instead, as it sounds like the main character is going to be a computer nerd. I mean, accounting is the profession I'm looking into, so I'd probably be able to fulfill that roll. How hard could it be?
  18. Not really, but that could be fun to read (to be fair, I'm a sucker for most romances) That had not crossed my mind, to be honest. . . though it does kind of make me wonder now why a human would want to have children with a Koloss- a human wouldn't have any strange changes to instinct due to spikes. . . I hadn't considered that part before, but it would make sense if those humans were outliers of the norm a bit (they did decide to join or interact positively with Koloss clans after all).
  19. That could be interesting to see, particularly for a MAG PC or NPC (actually, I came up with the idea for a Hemalurgic construct that had four separate personalities a while ago, but it was more like having three Cognitive Shadows stapled to one living body via Hemalurgy, not the copper spikes, though that's a cool idea too ). I don't know that it would work canonically though- I believe that Hemalurgic copper can sharpen memory (such as with TenSoon in HoA) and improve one's cognitive abilities a bit, but actual memories themselves are tied more to the Cognitive Aspect themselves, which is not something that Hemalurgy deals with (it can influence the Cognitive and Physical Aspects, but it is an indirect side effect of making changes to the Spiritual Aspect). That being said, Yumi spoilers:
  20. Because people tend to anthropomorphize objects they have a presence that can be interacted with in the Cognitive Realm. But what if humans didn't view objects in such a light? If nobody thought of objects as alive, would they no longer have such a presence in the Cognitive Realm? And what about Spren? Most are shaped by human perception, though the gaining of a mind will happen to any large body of Investiture given enough time and not devoted to a specific task. So how would Spren form on Roshar if people didn't think of objects and nature as people?
  21. Makes sense to me- they're kind of alive, so they can kind of heal, grow muscle, and learn.
  22. It is known that if you alloy Lerasium with another type of Allomantically viable metal you will create a metal that will turn you into a Misting that can burn the type of metal alloyed with the Lerasium- alloy Lerasium with pewter, for example, and the burner will turn into a Pewterarm or improve their Allomantic pewter. However, turning someone into a Mistborn is a side effect of its usage. There's more to it. And I just read the Allomancy table on Lerasium and it says "Pure Lerasium transforms a person into an Allomancer or drastically improves their Allomantic powers. In alloy form, it produces various expanded physical and enhancement effects, including the creation of Mistings." (Link) That makes me wonder what those effects are, as turning into a Misting is simply a side effect of those alloys, apparently. I know nobody knows any of those effects at this time, but are there any educated guesses people are willing to share?
  23. When Lightsong goes to change the command phrase of all the forty-thousand Lifeless in the Lifeless Enclave he mentions that there is a space for them to exercise. Why would they need that space if they did not have the need to exercise to maintain their muscles? I mostly meant the mental aspects of training, though physical conditioning would be useful as well.
  24. And now I've "traded" that dumb practically unusable Allomantic Atium spike for a Shardblade. Guy who "traded" me for it wasn't aware that having a legendary magic sword doesn't do squat to stop you from getting hit on the head with a rock
  25. Let's say you have a Lifeless that was made from the body of a porter, somebody who was very strong and capable, yet who had never once picked up a sword. Then you decide to hand them over to a trainer to condition them to be your bodyguard. Will the Lifeless be able to be trained to act as effectively as a Lifeless who was originally a soldier in life and then made into a Lifeless? Basically, can you train a Lifeless new skills effectively?
