  1. Funnily enough, several others on the Shard have come to that conclusion as well. Personally, I think it's too hard for a single iron Compounder to do so in practical circumstances, but probably possible in theory. Agreed. What might also be interesting is if tiny fractions of Investiture could be taken from many volunteers and Identity blanked, thus preventing any real loss of quality of life for any donor while creating a powerful spike in the process. Yeah, I have to agree here too, I think. It's really versatile and with Unsealed Metalminds it can be granted to anyone who needs it.
  2. Welcome to the Shard! What's your favorite Metallic Art and why? What are your opinions on Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy? Wouldn't he just bleed out long before that? What about death via Hemalurgic spike overload? Just keep implanting spikes until the linchpin fails.
  3. I'm not sure about Honorblades, but Nightblood touching a bead in the CR would destroy the object in the Physical and Spiritual Realms too. I believe this could be because it destroys all three Realmatic aspects of a being.
  4. I don't think nicrosil would do the job. I think it just rips off general Investiture as opposed to specific powers. Atium could do it, but a more mundane metal could too, I think. You'd just need to practice it a little first.
  5. As @JustQuestin2004 said, stabbing them when surprised would be easiest. Draining their Investiture via Leeching (safest with Primer cubes) or a Larkin to remove their defenses would also be plausible. If you don't mind an orbit for a donor-Bindpoint, maybe go for the eye assuming it's not impenetrable, just moderately tough? If all else fails, shoot them with a cannonball laced with Hemalurgic Intent. Not accurate, and you'll probably need to reforge the mangled "spike" afterwards, but technically it just needs to pierce their body in the right area. Enough blunt force should do it.
  6. Hmm, valid. I had been thinking it would be a lawkeeper since the comics/superheroes of Scadrian nerd culture are supposed to revolve around lawkeepers and cowboys. Fitting in one of Wax's kids to the story would be a reasonable way to bring a bit of his influence in from Era 2.
  7. It's supposed to be something like fifty years past Era 2, and most of the protagonists are gonna be buried or burned by that point. I'd think it could be one of Wax's kids, someone familiar with the Dawnshot himself. Alternatively, it could be some other, slightly more modern lawkeeper- they're seen as something of superheroes by Era 3.
  8. Actually, would it be necessary for Rashek to know of a previous Ascension, or could the Well itself just have told him? He learned a lot just holding the power, including many secrets to Allomancy if memory serves me right. Knowing when the Well would refill seems like a very reasonable bit of info to glean from it.
  9. Whoa. Just. . . awesome. I forgot that Sanderson will often give us tidbits of books long before they're released, and I was practically frothing at the mouth when I saw this was a thing. Anyways, my thoughts:
  10. I believe that the most reasonable explanation is that Rashek made it manifest that way. Your thoughts on this being unlikely for a wielder of Preservation's power I think are valid, but we also know that Ruin was fully capable of pushing Preservation's Mists into something more oppressive and covering the land too much for life to hold out. So when Rashek took up the power Well of Ascension, I think he probably took the piece of Ruin surrounding the Well and encouraged it to manifest as Atium so he and his Mistborn followers could make use of it while keeping it away from Ruin. (If I were to guess on the mechanics of Ruin and Preservation doing this, I'd say it's probably because they're not denying the other's Intent at the time, but pushing it towards a more neutral action. It probably helps that both Shards are Connected to Scadrial, which might allow them to influence and mix with each other's power a little if it's not currently attached to the whole of the opposing Shard.)
  11. Source? Hemalurgy should not be taking all of a Spiritweb even when killing the donor, only specific parts. For example, a steel spike taking the power of a Pewterarm doesn't show any signs of siphoning their other attributes in addition- you need other metals for that- so why would there be less Investiture in a steel spike that happened to not kill a Pewterarm donor than one driven through their entire body? I don't see strong evidence yet that non-lethal Hemalurgy has to be weaker than standard Hemalurgy when taking things like Metalborn powers or innate Investiture. Attributes necessary for survival like strength or mental acuity might be weaker when harvested non-lethally, but I think only if you deliberately took less to preserve enough for survival. Perhaps it is weaker- maybe diluting Ruin's Intent or something- but we don't have enough evidence to tell yet, I believe.
  12. You mean could they store enough to die, then come back with a new body and reclaim their Goldminds? If so, yeah, I was thinking along similar lines. Maybe the body has some Identity too, but even if so I doubt it would be enough to stop the recycling of Goldminds.
  13. I think it would be best to state this idea as an idea then, not as fact. It's kind of misleading otherwise. But anyway, in regard to whether Honorblades dish out more damage than other Blades, I don't think so. Heralds have been slaying Fused and fighting Unmade for millenia, yet not one has been permanently put to rest as far as we know (with the exception of the Thunderclast and probably the beings possessing Sadeas's forces slain by Nightblood or Raboniel and Lezian killed by Anti-Light).
  14. If I may ask, where did we learn Honorblades were significantly more Invested than standard Shardblades?
  15. Or, maybe like Gemhearts hold Stormlight/Voidlight Scadrian Fused have metals organically grown into their bodies.
  16. This is a really fun idea! Gotta add some more. . . How about- The Brutish Ones: Fused that are very tall, becoming lanky and emaciated for long stretches of time in order to become hulking goliaths when needed, fluctuating their muscle mass in a similar style to the Skimming Ones so that can be graceful and dexterous in avoiding attacks or becoming a nearly immovable mountain of physical power in the blink of an eye. The Sickly Ones: Fused that wield Bloodmaking, consistently pushing their host bodies to their limits, constantly draining their health at an exellerated rate, but becoming nearly impervious to pain and injury while fighting. They may keep Goldminds after using up a host, pushing too hard. The Restless Ones: Fused that go comatose for weeks or months at a time, staying semi-aware of the world around them as they sleep. As soon as they sense a noise (or disturbance in Rhythms), they chase after their targets tirelessly, wearing them down. They may stalk these targets for weeks on end, observing and pushing them to their physical and psychological limits before swooping in for the final strike.
  17. Maybe. Vin hasn't regenerated from injures while duralumin-flaring pewter to my knowledge, nor purged her system of a knock out drug in HoA. It could certainly be a matter of numbers though, and Allomancers don't typically ingest a lot of metal at once. Also, a Nicroburst may prove useful over needing a Hemalurgic spike for duralumin if you want to help a Thug recover quickly using this method.
  18. Fair point. I'm still somewhat skeptical that you can directly Compound Breath though, since you're trying to fuel Endowment’s Investiture with Preservation's (or Ruin's with Hemalurgy). It would probably be similar to Soulcasting Godmetals of a different Shard, which shouldn't work without the right Shard's Investiture.
  19. Bio-Chromatic Breaths are an extremely valuable resource. They are easy to move to other Vessels and to shape, they are generally recyclable, they don't leak from Awakeners, and they can stack in a host in such a way that it's relatively easy to become highly Invested. However, the easiest method of manufacturing Breath- Compounding- doesn't seem to promising. Burning a metal with Breath inside seems to only return Breath to the Allomancer, assuming it is Keyed to them. Additionally, I'm skeptical whether nicrosil Feruchemy on its own would be all that useful for grabbing more Breath. I think there's a good chance Breath tapped would only provide a temporary boost, which is a significant downgrade from organic Breath which is more or less permanent. I think there's an exploitable loophole to Breath though, such that you could still manufacture them. First, let's give a willing Nalthian a Hemalurgic spike granting Feruchemical gold, in which they store loads of Health before continuing the process (their Breath most likely making this a bit quicker than a Scadrian, plus the resulting Goldmind should be attuned to Endowment since it came from a Nalthian Spiritweb). Let's also assume you can Hemalurgically extract a Breath from a Nalthian. It's kind of shaky ground as to whether this is achievable, but if you can manage the Breath should still be Keyed to them. The Nalthian's Goldmind now lets them regenerate their lost Breath, as it (supposedly) counts as being a form of damage rather than a freely given gift. Interestingly enough, I think the spike's Identity should allow the Nalthian donor to retrieve that very Breath without implanting the nicrosil spike- albeit with some decay- then stack it with their newly grown Breath. This process is then repeated, using the new Breaths gained to fill the Nalthian's Goldmind slightly more quickly each time. This process would likely be very expensive upfront, and getting enough Breath to really start rolling would probably take a while, but I think if built up it could allow for a sustainable growth of Bio-Chromatic Breath, no Drabs required.
  20. Ah! A fellow enthusiast. What part of the system is most interesting to you? If there was one question you could get Brandon to answer about it's workings, what would you ask? Also, how do you feel about Allomancy and Feruchemy? Which parts of those magics do you find most interesting?
  21. This is really cool! The Atium and Lerasium Hemalurgy properties are switched though, and it isn't known whether Lerasium can take powers, it's only known to take "abilities" (which I believe means only attributes).
  22. How come, out of curiosity?
  23. Indeed, it appears Autonomy has had at least one deal with Odium in the past.
  24. I mean, it would have to specifically be Allomantically viable and they'd have to be ready for it, so it's pretty circumstantial. I had an idea before when thinking of combat Twinborn, where a Bloodmaker/Aluminum Gnat could burn away aluminum bullets, then tap health to recover. If the aluminum could be burned as it enters the body (with a great deal of practice) the Twinborn may even be able to reduce the overall damage initially done by such attacks. Basically a Bloodmaker that specializes in soft-countering aluminum Hazekiller rounds. I think it would be really hard to actually get enough mass to create a black hole, but I suppose another meta issue would be if a Mistborn/Hemalurgist amassed a ton of pewter, steel, and some duralumin, then pierced their body with a small portion. This could give them a supernova of power, destroying everything nearby with an uber-Steelpush. But then again, big bombs exist and aren't considered too OP to add into stories, so maybe it's not too game breaking.
  25. It's funny, I had a similar idea a while back, but with my Hemalurgist's perspective I thought of a device that would rapidly impale the Pewterarm/Duralumin Gnat with more pewter. I think the spool could work too, maybe even better depending on how uncomfortable it is to wear and whether the spool of pewter burns through the whole object at once despite only a portion being in the body at a time. Kind of like how only a small part of a person's body needs to touch a Speed bubble to get pulled in, it might be that you can burn metals largely outside the body as long as a small part pierces you.
