Technically, as a shapeshifter you could just choose to stick to your original form. That's what I'd do, since I'm also a big fan of my body and don't want to swap it for anything else. That said, fine tuning some things here and there would be nice, and there are a lot of other perks such as near agelessness, immunity to disease, and the ability to remain whole after nearly any injury. Basically it'd be nearly the same as the human experience, but better. Mind control is a valid weakness, but one that rarely comes up and should be easier to counter with the advent of cheap aluminum.

Savantism has actually been compared to an uncontrolled version of a Spren bond. Mistborn spoilers: So at the very least they're conceptually similar. Personally, I think they could overlap, but I don't think a more deeply bonded Radiant should Realmatically count as a Savant. Then again, Radiant Savantism has been called out as being different, so I don't know for sure.

Ah, my bad for misinterpreting you. I will say on the Fused though, they're supposed to be able to hold Voidlight indefinitely, so maybe with Leshwi and the other rebels Taravodium just pulled it away the same way Tetribution tried to drain the Spren. I can't check right now as I don't have my copy, but WaT I think may go over this in chapter 56. Have it fully keyed to you, often being in the form of your own Spiritweb. Allomancers have a larger, permanent piece of Preservation as a part of their Spiritweb, and it doesn't ever leave (unless, you know, Hemalurgy). Technically, anyone living on a Shardworld should have something similar permanently sewn into their spiritual makeup, albeit smaller. Bio-chromatic Breaths stay indefinitely, but I think this is due more to Endowment's Intent and just the system in general- despite being primarily in the physical realm and not the Spiritweb, they're keyed to specific people, not the ecosystem or a big ol' tower, which I think keeps them from wanting to leak away.

Excellent points. This makes sense. To some extent, I think I follow here. As a soft counterpoint, I don't think this would necessarily mean biologically native creatures of Roshar would hold their Investiture indefinitely. At the least it just means that they can hold it long enough for another Highstorm hit of Stormlight, which is around 5 or so days, if memory serves correctly (except for the Weeping, which is something like twenty days and might require some extra oomph, maybe a form of brief hibernation for Greatshells to conserve Investiture). I'm pretty sure Raboniel remarked on Radiants leaking Stormlight because they weren't native to Roshar in RoW, but I wouldn't take her word as gospel. As one of their brightest scientists, she is extremely biased when it comes to her scientific conclusions, and personally I think most of the rest of the Fused are in the same boat. Thank you for explaining your thought process, it is much easier to understand now.

Combining Allomantic Iron/Steel with the Surge of Gravitation

I think that would work, but let me ping someone who actually understands physics and isn't just quoting a WoB. @DrPhysics? -
Combining Allomantic Iron/Steel with the Surge of Gravitation
Trusk'our replied to Xanpheon's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't believe that Gravitating yourself would impede your ability to Push or Pull on things, since the Allomancy is based on mass while Gravitation changes the direction of gravity. Did this count as speed, or just raw force? Because things can only fall at a certain speed, regardless of their mass, but more pulling force can certainly be achieved. Skimming would interact weirdly with this, but it wouldn't speed you up past removing air resistance because that's not how gravity works. -
Can you provide a source for this reasoning, please? Voidlight is inherently "sticky" due to Odium's Intent, the specific cycle its Investiture is tied to, or some combination of both. I'm also hesitant to believe that Fused hold Investiture indefinitely until expended solely because of their status as Singers or their Gemheart biology, as I don't recall Rlain or Venli holding Stormlight indefinitely despite having Gemhearts. That would probably be a major advantage, but I don't think it has been done. I think it's a Voidlight specific perk, possibly mixed with their specific powers and Voidlight's lack of ties to Roshar's ecosystem at large.

Soulcasting bone and blood production questions
Trusk'our replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Uhhh. . . I know that I'm technically the biggest advocate of shoving metals into the human body, but I feel like this would be dangerous. If you can Soulcast blood it's probably fine in the short term, but the immune system probably would not be chill with this procedure. I don't know if aluminum is toxic in large amounts, but I'd be concerned about that too. Also, would the tendons still be able to work as a bridge between the bone and the muscles if the bone is suddenly a drastically different material? I don't know enough about how they glue together to say, but that's another potential liability. I do think it's technically possible, but would be very hard on a human body. Maybe you can continually Soulcast to purify yourself of the worst long term effects, but that's also assuming all the aluminum doesn't interfere too much. Now, what if a Soulcaster used aluminum as their essence of choice? I know it's generally not possible to focus like that on Soulcaster Fabrials (since it's an extrapolation of a base essence, I think), but the Savantism would be ingrained into their system naturally. I think that would be less dangerous, ironically. Maybe it could be done via Fabrial if initially set up to do such by the Spren that made it. -
Personally, I don't see the Regals' power being a magic system in the same sense that Allomancy, (Nalthian) Awakening, or Surgebinding is. I see it more like an organic adaptation to Investiture- their Forms- making use of more potent Spren to up their natural abilities and harness the Spren's Investiture. If there was a more potent Spren than normally seen made of Cultivation or Honor that they could bond to their Gemheart, it would be reasonable to assume they would be using the corresponding Shard's "system". Since the Spren they normally bond appear to be of Odium (whether corrupted or naturally made of his essence), I would consider them as drawing on his system- albeit somewhat loosely since I don't think it's as formalized as most systems.

I don't think this would work. Allomantic (and presumably Feruchemical) Investiture is tightly keyed to its function, making it very difficult to fuel with other sources, and I'd image changing it to fuel others. However, Bio Chromatic Breath is very flexible and could be used instead of Stormlight (and I assume Voidlight) very easily. I don't think you'd even need that to get it necessarily. You just need to use the Song of Prayer, and he probably won't even notice who's asking for Voidlight (Connection would probably still be useful though).

I heard that the game stuff is supposed to be considered cannon, but looking at some of the Resonances for Radiants, and the upgrade tree. . . yeah, I don't believe the magic is going to be an accurate representation of what we'd see in the books. I don't think "free" power is unlikely in the Cosmere. Investiture seems to act like a "lightbulb" to the SR, constantly drawing a bit of energy simply by existing. Take the Blessing of Potency. It's a constant, "free" power that is very similar to a Pewterarm, and all you need is some Invested iron present in you body at the right Bindpoints. If you had enough Breath in your system and you had a Fused's stolen Surge, I think there's a good chance you could get passive Soulcasting.
-
Well, to be fair, I don't know that this isn't true for them. I just don't see an actual source for the claim of internal Soulcasting being free. I'm not a fan of misinformation or leading people to false conclusions. That stuff's gotta have proof to back it up. I'm not sure, honestly. I think it could be, depending on the strength of the Allomancer, as more Allomantic strength should mean more Investiture drawn from the SR per unit of metal burned.

Sounds cool! Is it going to be like Metalborn.io? If it's a fighting simulator of sorts, I think it would be best to add in an element of randomness. For example, a Shardbearer is almost always going to trump a non-Invested foot soldier with a spear. But it is not a true guarantee, and it would be more interesting to reflect that in the outcome. Also, if it is done that way, I think a short but flavorful explanatory text of how one beats the other should be written. Such as "The Awakener, though frail is determined, breathing her Biochroma into a azure silk scarf. With a quick wit and a pinch of Fortune, she entangles the Mistborn before they can down their vial of metals, securing victory." That's my two clips anyway.

I didn't see a link on the page referencing where the person who wrote it got their information. Is this told to us in the Stormlight RPG book? I think the Coppermind is good to look for quick references and links to the Arcanum, but I don't feel like it is great when it comes to founding a hypothesis or building a theory on its own because almost every page with extensive text also has a form of unfounded extrapolation and interpretation on the writer's part. Ruin's gotten way too busy there, me thinks. Wait, wouldn't burning the aluminum wipe your reserve of Voidlight too?

Cosmere Magic: Softer, Harder, or the Same?
Trusk'our replied to Returned's topic in Cosmere Discussion
You know, I think I get where you're coming from. Especially with the secret novels (doubly so for the Sunlit Man), the magic technically felt like we were learning more about it and we could go more off of what we learned. . . but I didn't actually see great ways to use the new info we got. It seemed a little arbitrary at times. So yeah, this definitely bothers me to a large extent. I'm really hoping Ghostbloods sheds more light on the nitty gritty of things like Savantism, Resonances, how Investiture is stored in metals, and how the crap people can jump from purely biological (and Hemalurgic) Metallic Arts to full blown mechanical Investiture. I have a feeling that there will be a time when the chaotic stuff will become largely definable again, just with a lot more moving parts. But it isn't there yet. -
You know, that reminds me, spike decay is supposedly (as I interpret the WoB) due to the Spiritweb fragment being pulled into the Beyond to reunite with its original owner (technically I think the Investiture itself really moves to the Spiritual Realm to be recycled, but you know, similar function) So, maybe by re-Keying a spike's Identity or even just blanking it the spike would no longer have that competing force. So maybe it's more an Identity thing than strictly a Connection thing. Also, as a side note, does this maybe mean that non-lethal Hemalurgy could lead to some minor Spiritweb restoration, the stolen Investiture slowly returning to the donor, at least partially if the spike is allowed to decay?

Rosharan Investiture leaks based on its Intent and, I believe even more importantly, the system it is part of (else how could any Investiture type permanently exist in Spiritwebs as innate Investiture?) I wonder then, could the process modern Hemalurgy uses (or could change to make use of) to prevent unnecessary decay be Connecting stolen Investiture to the spikes themselves? My initial impression for the preserving of Hemalurgic spikes was just aluminum, but presumably you'd still suffer a little leakage whenever you had to move it from the aluminum to a host or a second donor. If keying and/or Connecting the Investiture to the spikes removes this, it would be way easier to handle spikes.

For some metals, such as pewter, tin, bronze, copper, iron, and steel, you kinda have to get an effect along with burning the metal. But I would think the Investiture just has to flow through you to make a Savant.
-
I think it should work, yeah. That would be interesting to see. Maybe a duralumin Savant could better control their super Flares, so they wouldn't use up all their metals at once but instead get a very potent (if metal expensive) version of Allomancy?
-
I don't think medallions follow the vanilla use of nicrosil. I believe they use a bonding mechanism while normal nicrosil Feruchemy is just temporary tapping like most attributes. Stormlight Archive reference: The Bands of Mourning run out of their nicrosil portion as Wax found out, and would require Compounding to recharge them. After your explanation and a bit of time, I find myself more and more inclined to agree with your conclusion- while I love the idea of efficiency and keeping as much Atium around as possible, it's probably not realistic to assume you could maintain Marsh on the limited supply and not burn any up. It's just not very practical. I suppose if you had a lot of spare, willing donors, and you you have multiple (like sixteen or so) storing into each Unsealed Atiummind at once, and the Atium could hold enough of a charge (days or weeks worth for a relatively small amount of the metal), then maybe you could make this more feasible. But still, I guess this wouldn't make the Atium really any more common. It's still being locked into use somewhere else, even if it isn't directly Compounded into youth and is acting only as a battery. I hope there's at least enough of a surplus of Atium come Era 3 that the Ghostbloods or Harmony's agents can experiment with it a bit, maybe make a few other Unsealed Atiummind alloys.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints corner
Trusk'our replied to Kelsier'sGodComplex's topic in General Discussion
Hey guys, I started my first semester at BYUI a couple months ago, and was wondering if any other Sanderson/Cosmere fans happened to go there too. -
No, I am still (trying, but apparently failing) to refer to multiple forms of Savantism interacting with one another, not the standard mix of Investiture.
-
Well, yes, but I'm specifically thinking about Savantism. Like, if a Mistborn loves Pewterdragging, ramping up their senses, blasting their iron and steel all the time, maintaining a flared Coppercloud whilst also (for some reason) simultaneously burning bronze, all while Rioting and Soothing those around them constantly, would the many different Savantism effects blur into a completely new thing (probably not a Resonance though, since too many powers washes it out)?
