  1. I guess a person could use A-Bronze to find Spren, but It might be simpler to use Aluminum weapons against Spren than A-Chromium. I don't think either would affect the Spren directly but they might remove the stormlight fueling Radiant abilities. How does aluminum or A-chromium affect Kondra? That is how it would probably affect Spren.
  2. And you think I want to look up one of my previous posts because you didn't take the time to read it first? In a couple of the WOB's Brandon said that you can convert Stormlight to use Allomancy but it would take some work. In others he has said that all forms of Investiture can be converted to any other with some work, though often their are easier ways to achieve the same results.
  3. yes sand masters could use metal to fuel their sand mastery if they first realized it was possible, and second worked out how to convert metal to do so. In my opinion it is far more likely that Metalborn would be able to use sand for the simple fact that sand might have trace elements which would require no conversion. Beyond that they might be able to figure out how to convert sand to use their metal born abilities, but wouldn't likely be able to Sand Mastery abilities. I cited it in previous posts. Connected to Harmony by genetics now. Metal is actually more efficient for a metalborn to use so of course Hoid would use metal instead of trying to figure out how to convert stormlight, metal is common after all. It is also likely that their is more stored investiture in Metals than in Spheres of Stormlight. Don't get me wrong I don't think a metal born using stormlight would get Nahel Surges since their investiture is keyed to Harmony, they would still be using their metal abilities unless they formed a Nahel bond then they could use both and probably unlock both types of abilites with either stormlight or metal. When I said F-Duralumin was limiting I meant that only a duralumin fering or full feruchemist could use that method so there must be some other more general method. As for using Tanavastium the investiture provided by Harmony doesn't extend to burning God metals of other shards. I think one of the WOB's I read had Brandon saying that Metal born aren't keyed to other God metals. I wonder, if a Metal born formed a Nahel bond then would that open them to using Tanavastium like any other metal? No one except maybe Brandon knows how to convert from Metal to Stormlight or vice versa yet, so I could be theoretically right. Perhaps we will know after the next Stormlight or mistborn book. I really think that using Stormlight to empower Metal abilities for Scadrian's is far simpler than trying to use Metal to empower Radiant abilities for Rosharan's. Wasn't it Vasher who used Chromamancy and thus Breaths in his discussion with Kaladin? So maybe he has begun to work out how to convert Stormlight to Breath at least on a limited scale.
  4. Genetics: Alloy of Law. Bonding: Way of Kings - Rhythm of War. Converting: WOB's. F-Duralumin doesn't make sense because it is too limiting. Tanavastium doesn't make sense because no Metalborn are attuned to it. All metalborn can potentially use stormlight to unlock their abilities. Nahel bond wont allow metal abilities. Try again.
  5. I saw it in a WOB a while back that someone else posted in one of the topics. Alright instead of telling me I am wrong tell me what work you think a Metalborn would need to use Stormlight? Of course metalborn investiture has everything to do with genetics. Being an allomancer is a genetic inheritance just like being a feruchemist is another genetic inheritance, and twin born have both. Being a fused has to do with a bond to Odium, and being a Radiant has to do with a bond to Honor, but Venli has a bond to both. No one on Roshar has an innate investment so they need a bond to use Light. Metalborn have an innate investment so they can use Rosharan Light to unlock their Metal abilities in addition to any metal they can find. The more difficult conversion would be a KR trying to use metal to unlock their abilities, because that is possible too. Which metals would unlock which surges and in what way? Oh Vasher uses those same Stormlight powered breaths to awaken cloth while talking to Kaladin.
  6. If Vasher powers breaths using Stormlight he is increasing his awakening. It may be that he is turning a regular breath into a God breath. Asking why Fused can't use Stormlight is like asking why Allomancers can't use Feruchemy. Venli can use both because she has a bond with both sources just like Twin born can use both because they have the genetics for both. No Brandon talked about how hemulurgy needed to be used to steal a Nahel bond. Of course it is a form of work just like Kaladin had to work to consciously take in and use stormlight. Right Stormlight would power Harmony's investiture in their genetics. It is that investiture in their genetics that enables them to use metal anywhere, and potentially fuel their metal abilities with any source like Stormlight, and Breaths. Metal born unlike many others such as KR's are innately invested by Harmony everywhere. They can expand that investiture through Nahel bonds, bonding EON's, giving them access to other abilities, but they can also potentially fuel Harmony's investiture within them using Rosharan Light, Dor, Breaths or even Sand with perhaps understanding how to ingest the source. How do you think Metalborn might use stormlight for fuel? Brandon said it is possible.
  7. Perhaps I should expand this topic a bit. How might you convert the fuels from different planets to work for other world investiture. For example how might a metalborn use Stormlight, sand, or breaths? I think a metalborn would need to realize that Stormlight could fuel their abilities, see how Radiant's absorb it for use from spheres or storms, and finally practice until they make it work like Kaladin did. Perhaps their first attempts might be to try and eat the spheres then burn them. That probably wouldn't work as expected, but they might accidentally suck in the stormlight from the sphere inside them. Maybe a metalborn could burn sand though? Certainly if it had trace metals.
  8. Scadrians can use metal from anywhere to activate their innate investiture. yes it is a form of work. metalborn are genetically invested so can convert other power sources like stormlight to use their abilities so long as they realize it may work for them. For Scadrian's Allomancy even when powered by stormlight is still Harmony's investiture. Preservation's investiture is provided by the Nahel bond and fueled by Stormlight. Since divine breath fuels Vashers investiture when he is feeding his divine breaths with Stormlight he is fueling his magic. Scadrian's don't need to steal a Nahel bond with hemalurgy or otherwise, the spren can simply bond them like normal then they would have access to Roshar's surges, but before that Stormlight could fuel their metal abilities. To steal a nahel bond with hemalurgy you would need to use it on both the KR and their Spren at minimum. How do you think you might convert stormlight to fuel metalborn abilities? Since we know that some are trying to transport it off planet for just that reason and Brandon said it can be used, he just didn't tell us how or what is required directly. I think a metal born would need to realize that it can be fuel, and then see how KR's ingest it for use then practice until they got it. Stormlight is virtually raw fuel that almost anyone can use. It can fuel breaths, sand, allomancy, forgery, dor, and any other system in the cosmere and do it without unacceptable moral or ethical concerns.
  9. IMHO era 2 metal born might have a far better chance against KR's because of compounding. Steel twins would be like flash with projectiles and able to push on any metal the KR had to keep their distance. There are other possible twin combinations that could be equally challenging to KR's. You mentioned the Lord Ruler who didn't really take advantage of compounding to it's fullest but something no one else has even mentioned is that he was an expert in Hemalurgy which potentially gave him an advantage over others. One other thing I think is that Scadrian's could likely get access to Nahel Bonds while Rosharn's would almost never acquire metal abilities. Consider a dustbringer or skybreaker who is also a Duralamin nat. The division surge might be able to create nuclear level effects with minimal stormlight.
  10. Scadrian's can find fuel on every planet because every planet has metal making their investiture extremely available and versatile. What a Scadrian might need to do to use Stormlight is recognize that KR's are breathing it in and to work out that they need to intend to use it to fuel their metal. In other words like a Fering needs to realize that an open metal mind can be used they have to realize it is a metal mind of their metal first with an available investiture storage. So using allomancy fueled by Stormlight may be a matter of intent and awareness. I don't know about sand mastery.
  11. An Aluminum allomancer savant would be all but impossible to soulcast. Yes you can fuel allomancy with stromlight. You can probably fuel Feruchem with stormlight as well. See below uchoo786 How much crossover is there in use? Like if one "breathes" in the mists they can use it to power their allomancy. Could an Allomancer utilize stormlight to power his allomancy as well? Brandon Sanderson Most of the magics can be hacked together in one way or another, but some are easier to interchange than others. /r/books AMA 2015 (May 25, 2015) Questioner If I'm a Mistborn and I change planet-- if I go over to Roshar, do I have to bring metal from Scadrial with me? Brandon Sanderson No, you do not. Questioner Could I use Stormlight, and just have the same power? Brandon Sanderson It would take some work. Orem signing (Dec. 21, 2017) Questioner (paraphrased) Can a Mistborn use the Investiture from a Highstorm? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) It takes some effort to convert the Investiture. They can burn metals from other planets, though. Stuttgart signing (May 17, 2019)
  12. What makes you think Metalborn are barely invested? I think the stronger your connection to Preservation - Harmony the more efficiently you can use mist, but all metal born can at some level. I think the sudden loss of investiture, dissolving Shardplate, ineffective surges or shardblade, would provide enough shock for a lethal strike opening by almost anyone. If the KR survived the shock and strike they would still need to adjust to their loss of capability in their fighting providing yet more opportunity to be killed by a highly skilled opponent. In other words the shock and handicap in the KR would give them a significant disadvantage in a fight with a highly skilled opponent. To use Rosharan surges you do need a connection to one of the shards of that world, but to use metal born abilities any fuel will do. The lights of Roshar are generic fuel. Hemalurgy can steal abilities from any magic system if you know precisely where on the body to pierce and what metal to use. Then the spike needs to be placed in exactly the right place to extract the ability for use, and it must be done before the stolen investiture evaporates. Hemalurgy disrupts a person's spirit web. You are right that anyone could potentially use Hemalurgy, however obtaining abilities with it usually requires killing the person with the original ability. It also always leaves holes in the spirit web of anyone who uses it or anyone it is used upon which is why they are vulnerable to emotional attacks.
  13. The metals were poisonous which is why Kel told Vin to burn excess metal before sleeping. Insanity is an effect of metal poisoning so that helps to explain Zane. The fact that Scadrians can even ingest metal indicates a resistance to metal poisoning.
  14. Congrats and good luck.
  15. Welcome and Glad to have you. Good luck getting to your reading.
  16. I think a metal born could just soak up stormlight for use just like they can function off of mist. Metal born are naturally invested so any fuel is usable and maximizes the potential combination of abilities they can use. KR's are invested through oath and bonds so anyone can become invested, but that limits how they fuel their investiture and what combination of abilities they use. For that matter metal born could probably use any invested light or anti light as fuel in addition to their metal to access their abilities on Roshar. I still think a highly trained Aluminum nat or better yet twin savant could kill any order of KR at close range since they would likely be able to produce a null investiture field that would disable all the invested advantages a KR possesses: Healing, strength, shardplate, shardblade, speed, reflexes, surges, etc. Then it would come down to skill, luck, and arms. Someone like Kaladin and Dalinar might have a chance.
  17. A steelrunner who breaths in stormlight and stores it in his metal mind to use later to fuel his steel running. That would be a surprise for any KR who came up against them. Stormlight fueled flash anyone?
  18. Harmony is aware of Roshar and can influence anyone with more than 1 spike and can communicate with anyone who has even a single spike.
  19. The Ghostbloods are trying to transport Stormlight precisely because it can generally be used to fuel other investiture. Metal born can use any power source precisely because their investiture is inborn.
  20. On Roshar a metal born could likely use Stormlight, Voidlight, or Otherlight to fuel their abilities; since they all seem like generic power souces and, metalborn investiture is inborn, and so are likely able to use any available power source to power their abilities; so long as they don't try to use the anti power source at the same time.
  21. Harmony is a merged shard so is the resonance between 2 shards. We still don't know if there is one tone that counters all of Harmony's investiture. So you believe you might need a Trell tone to counter Trell Hemalugic spikes, not a Harmony tone to counter metal born abilities (era 2)?
  22. We also don't know if there is one tone to counter all of Harmony's investiture except maybe Aluminum which nullifies all investiture anywhere.
  23. Wouldn't the Allomantic or Feruchemical ability in the hemalurgic spike still be countered by an anti-preservation tone by your reasoning?
  24. You can't imagine a tone that precise? What do you think Ruin might power? Hemalurgy steals preservation's power. Do you think Ruin's power is to steal other powers? So feruchemy is stealing your own power for later use with negative interest if tapped for quick withdrawal?
  25. So if I read those WOB's right all magic on Scadrial is powered by Perservation and could be countered by anti-preservation tone. Still you might need the tone to destroy the key in addition to anti-preservation tone.
