  1. Sorry, he said Elend is privileged and that's why he doesn't like him and refused to let me rant about there is more to his character.
  2. Glady. (Follows.) Also, I guess Demoux, because I doubt you will make this obvious.
  3. Damnation it, thank you. This is exactly how I feel about a lot of this. People keep saying sexuality changes their world view and I DON"T GET IT. What changes, I seriously want to understand. I've asked my friend, and he just shrugs. And writing-wise, BS not having people's identity centered on their sexuality is not bad as that represents a sub-group in the LGBT community. I can see people wanting to see someone who does have their sexuality an important factor (Though I will say, the cultures on Roshar may throw some monkey wrenches into that.) but we should not say he is doing rep badly.
  4. Kal might be too intimidating to Renarin. The guy is second only to Dalinar when it comes to making people terrified (And this is without mentioning the glowing eyes purser execution scene). While Renarin might get a crush on him, he would eventually decide to find someone else that he feels more comfortable around.
  5. An unrelated question to everything. Who is hotter; TLR, Susebron, or Raoden?
  6. Okay, what's the earliest form of an elevating platform that doesn't require manpower?
  7. Well, first off, it's not Roshar, because like I said, it depends on which culture on Roshar. that's like saying if earth is accepting, where in certain places, yes, in other places, they are hated vehemently and despise their existence. So, no point in answering that, it depends on the place. Mostly, I am neutral, I tend to see certain things from both perspectives and understand and even agree with point to some extent, so this is more for discussion. The examples I provide are meant to see how you respond and add to the discussion. I'm sure people will see this tomorrow and have their own comments to share. So your reading someone who justs wants to talk and curious about something that may or may not have clear answers. You will notice the first post was mostly asking where is the line rather than trying to counter you. However, I do have a position on the shallan one, because I can speak in some respects of my own experiences and actually was going through the LGBTQ+ club and saw a very similar issue/topic. Because Shallan is confirmed Bi, and has seemed comfortable with the concept of having sex with girls, ava Give me the dumb girls line. However, she is married to a man and does not want to cheat on him (Yet. I'm still crossing fingers. Maybe Radient has eyes on someone.) and so I see how they wrote Shallan as perfectly fine and quite realistic. The fact she doesn't actually 'do it' with another woman should not discard the fact she is Bi, as this is something that happens. If you disagree, how would you have done it while keeping Shallan's character intact?
  8. I am making this topic partly out of love and respect for the character and partly out of salt of someone not liking him because he's (Elend) privileged and refusing to debate me, leaving me with that feeling of a lot to say but nowhere to vent. So this is in part for my own catharsis and so anyone who has any opinions on this character can list them down below and have a discussion, because what's better than discussing whether a character is good? (Writing one, but that's not for everyone.)
  9. Small note, this might be partly because a lot of social structures being overturned because of the desolation that more people are coming out as queer. Just something to chew on. And they may be more gay men, we just do see them or they haven't gone public yet, because I will mention that Rosahr is not universal in how it views homosexuality, it's fine in some places, it's outlawed in others. And even in the modern-day, the population of queer people in the U.S is less than five percent of the population, and in Roshar it would be safe to assume they would be even less, so one out of fifty people would be queer, and Shallan has been confirmed Bi (And there are moments hinting this, so don't bring the 'not in the book' excuse, she clearly appreciated the female body and has no problem with it, she just happens to be in a relationship with a guy... which happens. A lot.) So while there is room to say there could be more queer people, there is nothing outright saying that.
  10. This... wasn't a theory. It was just a place for discussion. And I don't think you're analogy is fair, as the knight radiants had no idea they would kill their spren, their spren probably assured them that they wouldn't die. You can't blame them for doing something when they unaware of what they would have been doing to their spren and probably told this would do no harm by the very spren they were breaking the bond with. And nevertheless, a lot of the reasons spren hate humans is that they 'have no honor' with the evidence being the recreaence, and with the events being recontextualized, it should affect many of the more stubborn factions in some way.
  11. Correcting people is... rude. You realize someone questioning you is probably because you were not clear, because yes, Elhakor would have been an infinitely better choice than storming Elend Venture, and even that is a poor choice because Elhakor has other traits like trying to live up to his father, be a better ruler, terrified of being assassinated along with him being spoiled. No, I did not understand what you meant, which is why I'm correcting you, and the fact you consider that rude is bewildering on several levels.
  12. I don't think he is trying to write that world, there is some discomfort from Sigizil and it is clearly considered the 'norm' to be straight. There is still clearly a social construct, but there are cultures that don't care too much, which was a thing in real life, aka, ancient Greece, which was fine with gay men and had plenty of myths about gay heroes and gods.
  13. Wow, that certinaly narrows it down. male and magic? Ugh, the lord ruler?
  14. I agree i would love a more 'all-out' Rashek. Doesn't even need to be in TFE, just a scene during the first century of his decimating an army would be GREAT.
  15. I think anyone who is used to the internet will know the person making those threats are too lazy to leave their room and not to take them too seriously. Which, if you need clarification, is what I was doing; just joking. I already have a list of people I intend to hunt down for various reasons. I think you forgot to type the word 'aren't', otherwise your statement agrees with mine. But, yeah, please re-read Well of Ascension (This should not be a big request, the book is great, as I'm sure you know. I'm sure you would re-read it again at some point.), Elend is more than cis-white boy. He has to grow through a lot of growth and challenges on his path to become king. I'm not even that big a fan of Elend, but I recognize the writing of his character is solid.
  16. I agree on a lot of this, But I have to ask, and this is for anyone to comment on, does every character that's gay in that universe need attention? At one point can a side character be gay and not be criticized that the only thing we know about them is that they're gay? There are a lot of non-gay characters that don't get much attention and sort of blend into one another in beige four and other groups, but we don't complain that much about that, as they are side characters and there is only so much room for character development. People want equal representation, and but that means that there will be gay focus character and gay non-focus character that get a passing glance. The fact he's gay and therefore stands out might say more about us (I, actually, forgot Drehy, though I did remember there was a gay member in bridge four. This might have to do more with my terrible memory with names.) But yeah, how does this actually work, because people will say if you have a gay character that is in story but not focused or developed in any way, that is bad representation, and I agree for the most part, but there is the other side where an author cannot put in a gay character without people asking for details on them, and seeing as we now have two gay character in SA, I think Drehy not getting development should not be looked on negatively, as it's just another element in the universe, as that puts a more slanted standard on gay characters where they MUST be developed and cannot just be there like plenty of side characters. Thoughts?
  17. I will hunt you down to the ends of the earth and debate you on this even after I die. Elend (Yes, that's how you spell it, my friend.) absolutely has character and has to struggle massively with his won concept of honor and integrity while trying to rule a city that doesn't want /and/or not ready for him. Money was literally never an important part of his character. If you still disagree, I will make another thread to debate you on this, Elend is great. (I am now tempted to look up his description and see where he falls on my scale of attractiveness. (Saw some fan art. He's meh. Still prefer the Lord Ruler and Susebron)) Agreed. Outcasts can attract other outcasts as they understand each other's outcastyness. Hmm. Not sure about this. I specifically analyze all relationships and whether or not they feel forced, and I know plenty of people who criticize media for having two main characters with different junk forced together, an obvious example being Kirito and Asuna from SAO, so I think it has more to do with the circles your in.
  18. How much investiture in metalminds depends on how full they are, and Sazed are nowhere near full. A good example of a full metalmind is the Bands in BoM, which are stated to be completely full.
  19. *Facepalm* @Hentient Dude, is there a reason pinging you works only 50% of the time?
  20. I've been talking a walk through memory land, and decided to make this thread. If you could split yourself into 16 shards, what would they be? (Pretty sure I saw a similar thread like this, but screw it.) They can be literally anything. Has to be sixteen of them though. Also feel free to tell us the Shards' intent and/or unique abilities, like autonomy constantly making avatars of themselves. I will post my own list once I actually spend more than five minutes thinking about it.
  21. Well, Roshar was invested by three shards, four if you think there might be an avatar of autonomy working with Odium, one of those gods got splintered and left the remnants of his power there and in the Stormfather, so it makes sense there is so much investiture there compared to everywhere else.
  22. I'm surprised this thread did not get more attention considering current events.
  23. yes please, I need more art of this. Also, I'm putting my ideas for magic systems and creatures in creators corner for advice and ideas, so you'll be able to get more in that regard. Still a long way from writing it, still have a lot more research.
  24. So, how is news that the recreance was not a genocide but a choice made by both the spren and the humans and that the humans had no idea that they would be killing the spren in doing so? Especially with the Ashspren and Willshapers, who seem to be holding the biggest grudge and working against the radiants? They are going to have to come to terms that their hatred of humans is unfounded.
  25. there is a theory that autonomy is trying to keep shardworlds to themselves, and that tell is meant to stop travel through shadesmar. Same for the white sands planet.
