  1. There have been a few references in these preview chapters so far to Shallan and Adolin's, uh, "newlywed activities." I think Ala even complains about hearing them. Of course they are newlyweds and in love so it serves that from a character perspective, but I'm wondering if it's setting up that we're going to have a pregnant Shallan by the end of the book to set up them having kids in back half. More tragically so if something bad happens to Adolin, I've actually been taking it as another death flag for him, that they've been mentioning this so that it's established as Adolin’s child even if he is killed by end of book.
  2. I have been mulling over this one as well ever since the philosopher and scholar but, it's just been hard to figure out how the hearing the wind as a child applies. Unless it's figurative and means as a very new Returned/when he was more naive
  3. Oh cool I love that idea, mind sharing where you saw the theory? It would be neat if Bondsmiths all can somehow make Light, so you have Dalinar making the perpendicularity, Navani with Towerlight and the Sibling, then Lift metabolizing food into Lifelight.
  4. I hope not, look at this death rattle:
  5. That is an amazing catch. Can you imagine if near the end of the book they are like falling apart? So cool
  6. I am thinking it is Frost, he would want to know if there is a contract loophole that lets Odium get un-contained. But I had one other idea: What if this is how the final Shard is introduced? If it turns out to have an intent like "Prudence" or "Wisdom" that could be a fantastic person to review a Shardic contract for a mistake.
  7. Ooh good point. Couple ideas: 1. Most of them are placed very close to Kholins - door guard, Cobalt Guard, room steward, nursemaid (I will not include the windrunner on this one). Turns out they are all spies, maybe Ghostbloods. We already had Felt who was super trusted by Dalinar, what if they're all over. 2. Giving them names because they are gonna die. Other reactions: I got a pit in my stomach when Gavinor appeared right then, having nightmares and wanting to play swords with his uncle, feels like foreshadowing for child champion. Even if it's not, I think something pretty bad is being set up with Gavinor, it could be he gets raised up as an antagonist for back half, like a back half Moash. It would be a good villain origin story. For Hoid visiting other worlds in his sleep, or "astral projecting", it reminds me a bit of Wheel of Time Dreamwalking - I wonder if this is some technique where his consciousness can kind of use the spiritual realm in his sleep to connect/talk/visit? Who will Hoid contact? I am thinking Frost, I don't think it will be another shard. Although, this would be a cool way to introduce the final shard, maybe "Prudence"? That would be a good Intent for finding something like this. I want the Jasnah background so badly but bet we won't get it til her book which is probably the very last one...but maybe I'm wrong and we'll find out soon. I had thought maybe it was simply the heresy or hearing voices (spren) but now if they really had her in restraints sounds like they worried about her harming herself or others...
  8. One more thing I started thinking about that I don't think is brought up here yet: glyphwards. Glyphwards seem like they might be something of the "old magic" so are they related to the Old Gods? They do seem to work a lot of times. And is the purpose of burning them to get them to disperse to the wind?
  9. It really sounds a bit like Wheel of Time's "ta'veren", it would be interesting to see how much of Sanderson's concept of Fortune in the cosmere is influenced by that
  10. Apologies for double post but this thread has been quiet Interlude 2
  11. Ala out-lied a liespren. What an actress. And also holy cow how good of a spy would a seon be?! I wonder how Ishar helped Kalak with the madness. Did he take some of it on himself? I think this death rattle isn't Taln, it's Ishar! Taravangian Odium Interlude is bonkers. The Shard is already affecting him even as he seems to want to resist. I loved how this shows it as Odium feeling all of the suffering out there and this fueling his divine wrath, it helps it make sense as a portion of Adonalsium rather than just like, straight evil. He reminds me a lot of Thanos - on a misguided quest to save the universe in a really wrong way. I feel like this Interlude probably has a lot of shard clues hidden in it. Especially this part: Learning from previous shards eh? Let's see what we can learn too: Sounds a bit like Harmony's predicament. The last bit there is definitely Preservation at least. Scientists and artists sounds a bit like virtuosity, but this sentence as a whole also sounds potentially like the combo of Honor + Cultivation (science) and Honor + Odium (war) interactions on Roshar. Well this might be a hint to why Harmony in the letter says "Mercy worries me." I wonder if that world must be extremely violent...
  12. I agree she is starting her own faction. I was just wondering if her identity prior to being "Unmade" is as an avatar of Autonomy or maybe a great spren of Freedom, and so she still has that impulse.
  13. Ch 13 spoilers
  14. So the oathgate spren gave me a thought: Could Sja-Anat be an Unmade avatar of Autonomy? She does let the spren choose for themselves, and then this talk of Freedom as being independent of Odium or Honor. Going back to some of the earlier books, from the Sja-Anat Interlude in Rhythm of War: And we also know from the same book that Sja-Anat only Enlightens intelligent spren if they choose it and give consent. And it would make sense if she was related to Autonomy also for her to be the one who rebels against Odium. But it could also be something different- like she was originally some Old God primal spren of Freedom. There is probably more evidence out there, I need to do a reread.
  15. Yes I have thought that Shallan already had plate before from childhood because of that Thaylen Fields scene. And the adorable childlike way the creationspren are behaving could then be a holdover from this, if Shallan had interacted with them in this way before. Or creationspren are just like that haha
  16. This is a fun topic. Here's another wild plate question: Shallan has two Nahel bonds. When she reaches sufficient Ideal level with both of them, will she have TWO set of plate?! What could you do with this - could you have one on top of the other? Could you put one on and use the other on someone else? Can the Lightweaver anchor their Lightweaving to the other armor or put the 2nd armor on a substantiated lightweaving?
  17. but these creation spren are really in the Physical realm and are manifesting in the cognitive realm I kind of like the idea of the creationspren we've seen acting weird being her shardplate, maybe because she is about to swear a Truth (which she then does). But the beads now - you raise a good point that they are something in physical realm if they are beads - but what if those are also her shardplate spren - for a different set of plate? With two Nahel bonds would Shallan have TWO sets of Shardplate when far enough in both oaths?! I wonder what you could do with that...
  18. So, chapter 11 shows Shallan suddenly seeming to be exhibiting a lot of new abilities. We see: -substantiation -hearing a voice, maybe somehow hearing Adolin in context -beads reacting to her and helping her This all seems to have started immediately after the big ending we got last week where Shallan reiterated and expanded her prior truth "I'm terrified". Many have said this may be reswearing but to Testament and I agree to that. But I noticed something else. The last line of chapter 9: That sounds a bit like what could be a Lightweaver 5th Ideal/truth to me. It would fit a bit with the "I am the law" example format we have of a 5th ideal. And then we see all these new abilities. Now, maybe it's unlikely that she has already sworn 5th ideal with at least one of her spren here - but this could be a hint to 5th ideal?
  19. Isn't Sigzil from Azir? He has been my top pick and still is.
  20. I think this could definitely happen. Something bad is likely to happen to the Stormfather, it is pretty foreshadowed from Oathbringer in the trial all the concern about Dalinar potentially being able to kill him, and then what you just mentioned as well. He could be trapped in a gem, he could be killed like Phendorana, or bad effects if Dalinar loses the contest and becomes a Fused. This seems similar to what you say - death rattle: I think this is maybe a trick on Brandon's part. The calls out to the Stormfather here are not merely a curse/exclamation but actually sorrow over something that happened to him and that is why the lights fail. This is the one I think could be it for overall ending.
  21. Ok the offhand mention of Nalthis as a big Breath factory, and then the later discussion about AI uprising took me straight to: Nalthis = the Matrix. The bots take over, and needing more Breaths for energy or to reproduce/make more bots, they enslave all humans to be their Breaths renewable resource farm. Probably unlikely that Endowment would let it happen, but a terrifying idea anyway.
  22. Omg you just broke my brain (off to re-read both and theorize)
  23. Could sort of be both. I think the Unmade being the singer gods makes sense. This is from the Oathbringer prologue, Eshonai's POV: Now I realize it could be that their gods are the Fused, but it would make sense for the Unmade too if you are right.
  24. There is another thread where we are talking about Unmade We've also been talking here about whether some of the old gods of Roshar were turned into the Unmade. Brandon has said in WoBs that the Unmade do not directly correlate to Radiant orders 1-to-1 but it's similar. What if there was a sort of Old Magic godspren for each surge. And 9 of them became Unmade, each corresponding to a surge. But the Wind could be the 10th, who was not Unmade because the Wind is the godspren of Adhesion, "Honor's truest surge".
  25. He says it's not 1 to 1 and there is some fuzziness. With BAM being corresponding to heliodor really points like Bondsmith but what if it is surges not Radiant orders that they are corresponding to? And the one missing is Adhesion - "Honor's truest surge"?
