  1. I feel like I’m a bit late to the party, and some of you might already have the same opinions or theories as me, but before I read what others have said, I wanted to share my initial thoughts. Sorry if some of these points have already been discussed. Here we go! My first impression was WOW! So many implications (as expected) for the entire Cosmere, and an interesting setup for the second part of the Stormlight Archive arc. I’ll try my best to organize my thoughts. THE BOOK I really liked the book. Some of the main events were foreshadowed, and it felt like most of them were developed in a satisfying way. In my opinion, it wouldn’t be fair to blame Brandon for some of the plot twists being predictable. If there are clues and you pick up on them (like many of you have done so well), it’s pretty reasonable to predict what’s going to happen. Shallan’s mother: There’s something odd there. It fits, but it doesn’t feel entirely right to me. Heralds’ bodies are made of pure investiture, so how could not just one, but three children be born from them? Maybe we need more lessons in Realmatic Theory. Do they all have a Connection to Honor? Same question with Odium, since we know the Oathpact was possible because of that Connection. Was Ishar “contaminating” the Davar family (except Helaran, who was a bastard) in the same way he did with the other Heralds? The Gav and baby champ theory: More like a cliché. As Taravangian said, another innocent might work too. Having Gav in the story felt like a coincidence (or a fan theory twist), but not necessarily needed. Still, I think he’ll play an important role in the second arc. The pacing of the book was pretty fast, especially compared to Rhythm of War. I’m not sure if it was because I was so eager to read the next chapter, or if it was just the fast pace of the story, but I liked it. I didn’t expect this ending, but it feels right to me. Actually, this book and event could be the turning point for the Cosmere, a call to action for all the Shard-planets. ROSHAR Interesting game of Towers, 90% of the planet is controlled by Taravangian, but with the "Sunmaker Gambit," we’ll see if the other 10% gets help from outer worlds. The singers seem to now control the perpendicularity of Retribution, the only entrance to Roshar? Unbounded Shardplates and Shardblades! Posible mercenary companies plots and books? What happened to the Mink? Will he become some kind of leader of the Floating Island Kingdom? CHARACTERS Dalinar: Oh Dalinar, the great hero, the one who was supposed to save the world, and now he becomes the one who brings war to the entire Cosmere. A closed arc where he realizes that the only way forward isn’t by punching someone, and that he doesn’t need to solve all the problems himself. I was expecting Dalinar to die, but not to unleash Big-T. Kaladin: "Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do." - Nothing more to say here. For me, Kaladin’s entire story feels ok right now, self-knowledge for self-improvement, living for himself, ruled by his own decisions and feelings. As the chapter arcs in the epilogues foreshadow, he’ll be the stepping stone to the reconstruction and maybe the freedom of Roshar. Taravangian: The development of this character was amazing. Now we have a real villain or antagonist. Not pure evil, but one we understand, not necessarily follow or approve of, but we get it. The Ghostbloods in Roshar feel a bit lackluster to me. Both Iyatil and Mraize didn’t really perform well enough for the Rosharan Bransh to be as important in the future. Personally, I expected more from them. That said, the Lightweavers and Ghostbloods are now in a truce—let’s see if that holds up and develops into a new organization that could stand in opposition to Retribution’s plans. Shallan: Now that the Spren are free to leave Roshar, she could become a Worldhopper, just like we all hoped. Will they decide, after talking with Adolin, to raise their child/children off Roshar (similarities with Iyatil here!)? Adolin & Yanagawn: I liked their arc, their friendship, and the foundation of a new Silver Kingdom. Now Azir is the beacon of light on Roshar. Let’s see if Adolin leaves him whenever he can to be with Shallan. Lift: She’s changing now, and will be trained by Vasher… positioned to be one of the main players in the second arc. And now she has her chicken back! Sig: Now we know a little more about Nomad (and Aux 1-21-24), but there are still many things left open. COSMERE According to the letters in Day 5, Endowment has a plan to deal with Odium. For half the book, I thought it might be Vasher, a Returned called Warbreaker, using his Divine Breath to stop the Desolation and end the cycle. But what if the war he’s meant to stop is a bigger one? One that could involve the entire Cosmere? Also, Endowment knows the real purpose of Hoid. She says Hoid is interested in planets with legends about people coming back from death. Is he trying to become something else? Time dilation on Roshar could mean that the new main characters, and some of the older ones, might be ready to be part of the space age. Spren can now leave Roshar, and some Highspren could be heading toward Scadrial (I’m looking at you, mysterious Coinshots who ask for permission to sink boats…). Now we have the last Shard, ‘Reason,’ and a new Dawnshard named ‘Exist.’ Could Reason have been hiding because it is ‘reasonably’ the one that could mediate between two Intents?
  2. One fact that got me thinking is if the other main characters even know that Gavinor was "sucked" into the Spiritual Realm. Dalinar and Navani were transported to the SR together, same as Shallan, Renarin, Rlain and the GB... But Gavinor was with Lift and she has been left behind. Plus, with all the weird shenanigans there of time and space and Gavinor going there alone it could be troublesome. Maybe a gap of opportunnity for Odium regarding the baby-champ theory. Or, on the other hand, Dalinar comming back to the SR in a rescue mission, not being able to retourn in the 10th day an thou resigning from the contract.
  3. Wow! you guys have a ton of good ideas! Especially love the one of Syl being the Spear instead of Kaladin. This may be another reason to keep in check the " Ancient Daughter" title that Syl has. However, despite theese blurbs from The Sleepless has been, since TWoK, talking about the humans it may be tricky to think they may be reference to Syl, I love the idea! Other one that missed in my first read was in this sentece... They refer to "the children of Honor and Cultivation" and the first thought was about the humans, but they came with Odium from Ashyn. Could it be that they are talking about the Spren (or even the Parsh) as they had the Surges forbid by Honor?
  4. What do you think about de back cover of WaT? Any theories or new ideas? Source:The coppermind It may sounds acward but the first thing that came into my mind is that te sleepless writting this is the one that is with the GB. As they have been watching Shallan since she was a kid and know they have a "new spy" in Dalinar's retenue. Eager to read your thougths!
  5. In my mind they work like a pairing fabrial: Half of the Inkspren is in Urithiru and the other half in whatever Oathgate in Roshar so they can teleport people between them. One pair for going one way and the other one for comming back. However it is interesting the point you make here! It could be the same principle of the pairing fabrial: one pair horizontal (for in ream transportation) and the other one vertical (intra-realms transportation).
  6. I see it as matter of safety. Not only, as @feruchemicalrockband mentioned, because they are dealing with anti-stormlight, but also could be a way to limit Radiant powers... if both use stormlight Shallan (or other Radiant) could have "breathe" it and take ir from them. In any case... in The Stormlight Archive we see both Odium and the Ghostbloods as the bad guys, could this be a hint or foreshadowing to let us think that they are working together? We have seen Mraize making deals with an Unmade and Raboniel (both Odium puppets), so could be plausible.
  7. Hi!! I'll say Allomancy. Mistborn was the first series I read and got a place in my heart. In addition I feel like it has some incredible fight scenes and a whole bunch of other uses! What about you??
  8. In my head they were (are) Skybreakers. That hint for an authority to confirm that what they are going to make is legal got my attention. When I read the WOB, kinda felt disappointed however... could be there another explanation?? The wording is tricky so maybe there is room for theorizing "a Skybreaker could not easily get off of Roshar". To me this means that it could be possible, but difficult, and we know that the GB tend to achieve the difficult part of the things (such as take and refine Dor from the CR in Sel). "I believe (you can't hold me to this one too much) the only Radiant who's managed to get off of Roshar and maintain powers is Hoid"... but we know that by RoW the Skybreakers are aligned with Odium... does it mean that they are no longer Radiant Knight and become something else? Do we know if the Honorblades can get out of Roshar? Could something have happened to Nale in WaT, and his Honorblade being taken by the GB? By the epigraphs of WaT we know that the Wind and Heralds have vanished, so this could be a possibility The Iriali are travelling around the Cosmere and we have seen them have some kind of knowledge about Connection-ish trickery (Preservation Orb, Dor pipelines, etc...). They may have found the way to maintain their Connection with the spren. Dyel interlude lecture Spoiler:
  9. Frost was my first bet too, that "old friend" sounds too obvious, but... Does Hoid knows that the Odium's vessel has changed? Of course, he knows that something is different, but not what has change exactly... However, the dragon may be interested in the contract if there are loopholes where Odium can escape from Roshar and become a menace for the Cosmere once again. Or maybe Hoid is looking for some Wisdom, now that Frost is immortal (a lot of Breaths? a Dawnshard? or even a Shard for himself?? But this is another story...
  10. As @alder24 said, I'm leaning towards Connection. They already have the method of moving Investiture through Shadesmar, primarily via Aluminum (and maybe other methods). So, there must be another reason for Felt to stay and interrogate Kalak. I like the idea of Kelsier trying to not become as mad as the Heralds due to their CS status and seems very plausible. Nowadays even more, due to Hoid telling the about Breaths as a method of keep memories. In can't remember if Kalak, or Ala, were present but could be an option. However, we are talking about Kelsier! There must be another secret. TLM spoilers:
  11. Thank you all for this warm welcome! I'll do my best acting as if I were here for a long time (which is actually true... the only thing I was being very shy and not saying anything hehehe) Mmmmm good question! there are a lot of characters that I really like, but if there is only one option to choose I'll say Hoid. A mysterius man with a lot of knowledge and unknown reasons for his actions. However Kelsier (I think he is the most charismatic character in the Cosmere) is not far behind.
  12. Thanks for the welcome!! I'm Spanish, but as I said, I'll try my best! I probably will go to Iri. I've heard that Rall Elorim is quite impressive and something regarding a mysterious and unique spren in Kasitor
  13. Hi everyone! Qviqve here! Reading the preview chapters this week I've noticed something... the Chapter Archs in the day 1 and day 2 are different. It seems to me that something is being broken but... What? an by whom? Dunno if you have noticed it too and if you have any thoughts. I don't remember when or where but I think I've read a WOB saying that the art in the chapter archs is important (heralds representing virtues, concepts, relation with some characters etc...). But this one is the first ine I've seen where the chapitel itself is different. I'm gonna put here the images in the spoiler zone so you can compare them. Bests!
  14. Hello everyone! I'm Qviqve, brand new to the 17th Shard... however I've been spying" you from a while, and now I've decided to come in and say hello. Really love the community and the ideas, conversations and theories around here! I've read (and re-read) all of Brandon's Cosmere books... also a lot of the WOBs and a bunch of The Coppermind articles. P.S. Despite English not being my mother language, I'll try my best!
