  1. I have been waiting to purchase White Sand until the omnibus comes out, so I'm excited! I think my plan will be to make a collection day and buy the Skyward novellas and this on the same day, if possible. (Also, Kenton looks like how I picture Adolin. That is all.)
  2. "I've done it plenty of times, and I'm fine," Martin offers. "It's a little more nuanced than what Ayia said."
  3. "Would it help if you knew the safety features?" Martin asks.
  4. Martin puts his hat back on and sticks his hands in his pockets. He's rather ready to be out of this vehicle.
  5. "Coming up on the airfield," Nahl finally announces. "Y'all wait in the car while I get this sorted with control, yeah?"
  6. Read the second set of Left Behind: The Kids. I think it's gotten a little better, and the events are decently handled, but there's a lot of telling, and not showing. I'm waiting until the really funky stuff starts happening to decide how much I'm actually enjoying it.
  7. I thought it was pretty good. We watched it over three days, so I'm not as emotional about it as I maybe could have been, but the music was fun, and I liked the story. Bruno's definitely my favorite character, but I relate to Luisa and Isabela more.
  8. I watched Encanto.
  9. My first thought would be the material the spanreed is made of. Assuming spanreeds use actual reeds, and Rosharan reeds have about the same sturdiness ours might, that might not be tough enough.
  10. Martin takes the seat directly behind the driver after everyone else climbs in. "You should be able to open the window," he tells Ayia.
  11. Well, I apparently have to watch this for my Spanish class, so bug me, and maybe I'll say what I think.
  12. "Here we are," Nahl says, when they arrive. There's a truck parked in a clearing, with an odd sigil on the driver's door. "Two hours to an airfield. Strap in."
  13. Watched Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings with my siblings. We all enjoyed it. My mom actually came in and watched the second hour, and upon realizing who the villain was, said in surprise 'that's the bad guy? He looks like a nice man.' I think that this is hilarious, and also I see exactly where she's coming from, and if it was a surprise reveal, I would have been shocked.
  14. Read all of Lord of the Rings, Cytonic, and the first four Left Behind: The Kids novellas. Left Behind I thought would be right up my alley, since I was that kid who read Revelation repeatedly when I sat in church with my parents and didn't understand the sermon. I like the concept, but so far the execution... it's okay. There's still thirty six more of these, so room to improve, for sure.
  15. Well, I read the whole thing in three hours, which means in a week I won't remember much of it, but anyway! I did like Cytonic. I was working on Words of Radiance, then read all of Lord of the Rings, so toning down the intensity of my reading material was very welcome. 1. I now picture delvers as Biblical angels who are perceived as wheels within wheels. 2. I thought I would mind a little more that I hadn't read the Skyward Flight novellas (or listened, I suppose) but because of the nature of Cytonic, that feels fine. I'm like Spensa right now - I know what she knows. I'll certainly enjoy it when the compilation comes out, though, I want to know what's going on on Detritus. 3. I saw delvers being evolved AI coming, after nixing the theory that they were once cytonics. But I was also prepared for it to be something completely different, so there was a nice little fist-pump moment when I was right.
  16. "You're not from around here, are you?" Nahl clearly doesn't expect an answer to that. Martin breathes out, and wishes that the time they have to be around Nahl was shorter. "Not relevant," he says shortly.
  17. "Usually how it goes with his type," Nahl says. Martin watches her face carefully to see what she's thinking, though that doesn't mean much. You don't get into the kind of work Nahl does if people can read you easily.
  18. "Canada. You remember that YTP base you got hired to bring down? Drop us off there." "You're gonna have to pay for that," Nahl says. She makes a sharp motion, gesturing them to follow her down the street. "Payment's at the base," Martin explains. "If you still wait on that." "For you I will, soldier boy." "Don't call me that," Martin snaps, more heat in his voice than he wants there. Nahl smirks. She leaves the topic for now, looking back at the rest of the group. "How'd you all end up with this fool?"
  19. Nahl glances at Ely, then focuses her gaze on Martin. "Nahl," Martin says flatly. "Long time no see." "Yes. Where am I taking you?" Right to the point, as always.
  20. Martin leads the way out of the motel, pulling his hat even lower on his head. Nahl is waiting at the corner.
  21. All right, help me out, Shard.  For the last few months, I've been noticing a character trend in books and real life: the white boy with long red hair.

So far I've found this appearance in:

    My school (two)

    My church (one)

    Roy Harper in DC comics

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

    The book I'm writing

There's a Bulgarian sci-fi series that I know has one of these

Maedhros, Amrod, and Amras in The Silmarillion

So, tell me where else y'all have spotted this, it's super random but I think it's hilarious.

    1. Mat

      Mat

      …Huh

Can think of two in my church and one from my school off the top of my head

Though I can think of a lot of people and characters with like, white skin and dark brown hair as well. It’s not a super specific category as far as stereotypes go.

    3. Ixthos

      Ixthos

You may have found your own Hoid :P

  22. "She's here," Martin says, stepping away from the window. "Let's roll out." He takes a quick moment to make sure his weapons are hidden, and pulls his hat on.
