  1. You don't have to assume that necessarily, but you won't have the ability to go back and forth between Europa and this planet. For other people with portals I ruled they might open occassionally and very briefly, so you essentially get whatever you might have sent through initially as a colonizing force. If that would have been your whole nation, yep! The world is smaller than Earth but tbh the scaling on the map is pretty loosy-goosey. I'll update the map with approximately how much space I think your nation will take up and we'll kinda go from there. Also to answer your earlier question, this is not Earth, it's gonna be different
  2. Ok, as a summary! We have @Dragonheir playing as a colony of the IISC (The Interstellar Intelligent Species Council), an interstellar diplomatic empire @IcedOutPenguin playing as the Sapphire Kingdom, a Renaissance era kingdom governed by Sapphire the dragon, starting in the forests on the far western sub-continent @SpiritOfWrath playing as the PPUNG (Pact for the Peace of the United Nations of Gorin), a cut off colony of a falling empire, starting on the westernmost island of the north east archipelago @Lord Spirit playing as Sylvalia, a small naturalistic society of plant people, starting on the far eastern forest island @BridgeBoi playing as Uritea, a unified kingdom with magic of teleportation @Carcharias playing as the Dosuli, a scientific expedition gone wrong from a high tech and magically advanced society, starting in the mountains on the southeastern continent @ParaTulip playing as the Assemblages of Worms, a space-born religion of worm colonies, starting on the far eastern plains island @SprenOfKaladinSenseOfHumor playing as the Europans, a lost colony from Earth, adept in hybridising animals, starting on the southernmost island of the northeastern archipelago @Spark of Hope and @RoyalBeeMage have also expressed interest in playing. @Dragonheir and @BridgeBoi have not yet picked a starting location. Did I get all of that right? Speak now or forever hold your peace
  3. It's possible to be anything, although you won't start with that kind of power right off the bat obviously
  4. Good assumption! Yes, the two sides of the map connect, and the continent at the bottom is round like Antarctica
  5. Any specific place? That works! My classes finish on Wednesday so I expect to start then or on Thursday
  6. Tbf, I think the Commune during the Franco Prussian war could count as a "collapse" (whatever we define that as), even if that's before the 20th century. It definitely did not come from any kind of "fiat" changes, just from people being fed up with the current government and seeing an opportunity due to the war, again, similarly to what we see in multiple Cosmere books
  7. Honored to have you here as your first post. By southern mountains do you mean the ones on the pole continent? Otherwise, looks like a fun faction. Thanks for joining!
  8. Very cool! That's some very interesting world building. Also everyone, I added the map for the planet to the main post! Take a look and see if there's anywhere you want for your starting place. We'll probably wait a couple days for all the people who have expressed interest to be able to respond, and then start up. I hope it will be fun
  9. I'd prefer semi-serious at least, but whatcha got?
  10. Cultural suicide? Why are you defending monarchist France like it was some kind of bastion of culture? The reason that this specific famine led to such an upheaval was because the nobility were living a lavish lifestyle while people starved, and there were enlightenment ideas that said that was immoral for the first time, somewhat similarly to the stuff going on in Mistborn Era 2, but that's a side note. Generally, I hope we do get to see the larger, civilization wide effects in the back half rather than it getting skimmed over. People should be desperate, fighting, willing to change things
  11. Someone defending French monarchism in 2025 on a Brandon Sanderson forum was not on my bingo card for the day but there you go. To bring this back a little bit, I think the Singers were 100% justified in asking for freedom and redress, and heck, in being angry! I'm with Paratulip The alternate timeline fae give is an interesting idea, and that would be something where Venli's and Rlain's anger would be a little less understandable. I wish we did get to see more of what the newly freed Singers think and thought, rather than just focusing on the Listeners, as cool as they are. I do see a little bit of a connection to the founding of Israel after WWII, where the LIsteners break off and found their own "nation" and that's kind of seen as a solution to the problem, and I bet it will give similar problems as we see where there's still a lot anti-semitism and militant zionism (Read, anti-Singer racism and a movement of Singers to the Listener nation). The fact that Odium is over all of this gives even more complications that we can't possibly link back to our world (which is why it's fantasy). I personally think that we are supposed to see Jasnah's changes as a little bit idealistic, what with her trying to enact them during a massive war, but I don't think Brandon had any intention of saying they were bad changes, just maybe that Jasnah could have picked a better context. And, in case we forget, she wasn't just freeing Singers but also human slaves.
  12. Hello the Shard, I have an assignment for one of my classes to interview someone that works in Public Relations. And sure, I could do it the normal way, or I can ask some of the coolest people I know. So I figured this was worth a shot. Does anyone here work in PR or know someone that does who would be willing to talk with me for like, 15-20 minutes?
  13. Sounds very cool! This is going to be fun. I hope we can get maybe two or three more people and we can start
  14. Gencon 2025, here we go! Any last minute predictions? I'm gonna guess there will be a lot of talks about love and unity, Pres Oaks will mention the constitution, and there will be three new temples in Utah, and at least 8 outside the US
  15. Cool! I'll DM you guys about some details and figuring out some balancing, sound good?
  16. That might balance out by giving you more population, more magical capability, anything else you can think of, to start. Even if there are some factions that do start off at a disadvantage, I expect you'll have opportunities in the game because of it, like being able to adapt more easily to the new planet. Basically, we'll chat about it, but there's some ideas. If you have some ideas specifically for your faction, DM me
  17. Thanks for clarifying for everyone else. I'll probably start once we hit a few people, so we have time, but even then I don't have anything against people joining during it (although I may impose a limit to how many people can join)
  18. Yeah, similar to Risk but with more RP possibility. I'd probably compare it most to like a Civilization or other RTS/Grand Strategy game. The one I'm most familiar with is Stellaris, but you could also compare it to Crusader Kings, Distant Worlds Universe, Total War... stuff like that. Maybe in way of example, I played a game similar to this before, and I began the game as a nation of forest elves. I began by using my actions to research ancient magics and explore the world around me, then I began sending diplomats to the other nations I found, marshaling forces to defeat monsters or tyrants, and building up infrastructure. Some people playing really went into detailed Roleplaying (roleplaying the full conversations the diplomats had between them) and others just said "I sent a diplomat with these terms and with these instructions," same with war tactics etc.
  19. Right, thank you for that. I'll put it into the main post but You will be able to take a certain number of actions for the nation per "year," and those actions could be almost anything, from putting into place a recruitment policy for your army, sending out explorers, or sending an envoy to a neighboring country. If it helps, think of it as roleplaying as the country's leader/leaders and making those decisions for your country Also thanks
  20. Hello all! I've resurrected myself back to the Shard after... whoah, way too long, and I'm back to the rp scene! We'll do sign ups here and then I'll probably make a new thread for the rp proper. But! This is gonna look a little different. This is a Civ RP, where rather than playing as a character, you will be piloting a burgeoning nation. What Nation? Well that's the fun part. For your character I would like you to fill out a nation that comes to a new planet! Perhaps your old planet underwent a cataclysmic disaster so you escaped on a futuristic colony ship? Perhaps you discovered a magical portal and decided to send settlers through? Perhaps your god commanded you to find a new, purer land and gave you passage through their domain? Any options are open, any level of technology or magic (as long as you're fine chatting with me about balance). I hope to have 8-12 nations on our planet. You will be able to take a certain number of actions (probably 4 but that might change over time) for the nation per "year," and those actions could be almost anything, from putting into place a recruitment policy for your army, sending out explorers, or sending an envoy to a neighboring country. If it helps, think of it as roleplaying as the country's leader/leaders and making those decisions for your country. If you're interested, fill this out and send it in the chat along with any questions. Before too long, I'll have a map made up so you can pick where you'll begin. Nation's Origin: National Colors: Nation's Government Type: Nation's Faith and beliefs: Nation's Ruler: Nation's Primary Race(s): Nation's Total Population: Magic or technology use: Other information: Edit: Here's the map of the planet! Your scanners/magical senses show that the planet is most hot and humid, somewhat tropical in nature, with only a little bit of land close to the poles cold enough to have snow during the year. The planet also is surrounded by a ring system, similar to Saturn in our solar system
  21. Hello all! It's been a minute since I've been on this forum but I decided to come back to see what y'all think of this idea, and see if I can get help filling it out. If you play Warhammer, your input would be especially helpful, but anyone is welcome to respond and give ideas for cool people or abilities to represent in game rules! From the beginning though, I don't want have too many Epic Heroes (not too many named characters), and I want the codex to at least kind of work together. I don't think this thread is the place to explain Warhammer rules in depth (good luck) but I'll respond as best I can in DMs or whatever. The idea of the codex is that thanks to cognitive mumbo jumbo, much of the cosmere has been transported to a world in the outskirts of the Warhammer galaxy. They are forced to band together and work together despite their differences across time, cultures, and religion. People from all times and planets are represented. No one has seen Kelsier and they're all worried about it. Anyway, on to the codex (or at least what I have so far. I expect I'll eventually update this with a big doc) Cosmere Alliance: Faction Ability: Investiture You may spend Investiture at the beginning of a phase to make a unit Invested for a phase. Invested units gain Lethal Hits, and may have other abilities that trigger when they are Invested Certain units will have the key word Reserve X. At the beginning of your command phase, gain X Investiture where X is the number of instances of Reserve among units you control Detachments Heroic Vanguard While a CHARACTER model is attached to a unit, models in that unit get +1 to Ld and +1 to OC. CHARACTER models’ melee attacks get +1 Strength and +1 Damage Enhancements Inspiring Captain: Units led by the bearer reroll failed Battleshock tests and get +1 to wound against enemies with greater Toughness Elite Strike Force: Units led by this character have Infiltrators and Stealth Shardic Champion: This model adds 1 to its Reserve ability. At the beginning of the Fight Phase, if the bearer is Invested, any enemy units in Engagement Range take D3 Mortal Wounds Ancient Oaths: At the end of any phase, spend 1 Investiture to heal D3 wounds to any damaged models in the bearer's unit Stratagems (Need to be formalized) Resurrect a Character by spending investiture A unit that charged gets critical hits on 5+, Character models get 4+ 6" reactive move when a enemy unit moves within 9" A character's leader ability can apply to another Infantry unit without a leader When a unit passes a battle shock test, treat them as being Invested until they fail one/next command phase/end of turn? Unit gets 5+++ Feel No Pain
  22. "Did she not explain? We, ah, work together, in a way. Our organization wants to keep an eye on powerful worldhoppers, which brings me back to my original question: do you know Channelknight Fadran?"
  23. "She got shot a little during... something about a siege? An assault? Anyway she made it back and is being healed, so I'm here for now."
