Cultivation is also a possibility, but I see two problems here: A. The WoB that @mawaschwa mentioned: So, in terms of danger, we have: Fabrials < Radiants < Honorblades Fabrial magic system being are of Cultivation implies that this order would correspond to: Cultivation < Cultivation & Honor < Honor Why would pure Cultivation's magic be the safest if her Shard seems to be associated with the Change Dawnshard? Shouldn't the results be strengthened even more? Also, the Oathgate spren seem to have been forbidden by Honor to give access to Shadesmar to humans and (RoW spoilers) This seems to imply Honor's involvement in the magic system. B. We're running out of groups of people who are associated in any way with Cultivation and could create the Surge Fabrials. Aimians apparently didn't do it; Horneaters don't have access to Soulcasters - which leaves with people of Purelake, which also seem unlikely

Anyone else reminded of another mural?
KandraAllomancer replied to mdross81's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wow, that's a great catch! I need to re-read that part of BoM -
That idea crossed my mind, but fabrials are supposed to be the part of the third magic system on Roshar: and I'm not sure if using Dawnshards should be classified as magic system. It seems more like a unique magical effect, like Odium creating Vyre's knife. Also, I guess figuring out the origin of Soulcasters will be a major plot point in Rhythm of War and Dawnshards will probably remain a secret for the main characters for at least a while. According to Ars Arcanum the third magic system is even more esoteric than Voidbinding... whatever that means. Maybe their creation is related to some advanced Bondsmith powers and/or the Sibling? That's probably my number one question for RoW

That would be my guess as well. And it makes a lot of sense - every major magic system we've seen so far shares some elements with the magic from Yolen (minor spoilers on Yolish magic): Sel uses symbols/shapes/form as a Focus of all types of local magic, so I would assume some kind of magical language or symbols must have existed on Yolen

To borrow some analogy from Christianity: the Great Commandment is to love God and your neighbor, which leads to further commands (the Decalogue), but can also be easily summarized by the name of the associated virtue: Charity/Caritas. That's how I see Passion: as a virtue associated with following the Dawnshard/Command that (among other things) makes people fight for what they believe in, live free and express themselves. And it would still be just an approximation, as these Commands are probably too complex to be simply expressed by words Sometimes yes, but Ruin's attitude hardly matches this description. He didn't want to make things better, he wanted them to be annihilated. If there was anything wanting to improve the world in Ruin, it probably came from Ati, not the Shard. And he explicitly mentioned Passion, as Odium often does

My guess while reading was something akin to "I'll protect even those that annoy the crem out of me"

Official Dawnshard Reaction Thread
KandraAllomancer replied to Truthless of Shinovar's topic in Stormlight Archive
Besides the obvious mind-blowing Dawnshard revelations: The Third Ideals of Windrunners keep getting better and better "It’s only a contradiction if you think about it." - finally a Lopen quote I can use in real life I hope Rushu gets to lie on a huge pile of gemstones in the end And the most important question not directly related to Dawnshards: if people got their Soulcasters from Aimia, and Aimia got them as gifts for the Ancient Guardians, then who created them in the first place? And how? -
My proposition would be: Change: improvement and growth Shards: Cultivation, Endowment Current holder: Rysn Unity: unification of people, ideas, Shards etc. Shards: Honor, Devotion, Dominion Current holder: Dalinar Passion: the will to fight and the ability to destroy Shards: Odium, Ruin, Autonomy, Ambition Current holder: possibly Rayse, who uses it to splinter other Shards Survival: creating and protecting life. Possibly Hoid's Dawnshard Shards: Preservation, Survival Shard Current holder: my best guess would be the Survival Shard. Or maybe it's hidden on Vax Brandon's original plan for Scadrial was for the significant number to be four, not sixteen, so you might be onto something:

theory Yelig-nar the Shin warrior
KandraAllomancer replied to Aspiring Writer's topic in Stormlight Archive
We know that Dustbringers gain their access to Division in a very slow way, closely related to their Oaths: I would imagine it might also be the case for Skybeakers: it's not as much how to use Division, but how to get Division in the first place -
Shadesmar question/is roshar thought to be flat?
KandraAllomancer replied to Chasmgoat's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far as I know that's not the case. Shadesmar simply has different topology than the Physical Realm, which leads to some interesting problems: -
theory Ba-Ado-Mishram was using a Dawnshard?
KandraAllomancer replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Let's look at all the evidence: Even modern Ashynite disease-based magic uses spren, actually: Before the cataclysm, the magic of Ashyn was based on Surges: Ashyn is 10-centric, not 9-centric: The original Ashynite magic cannot be of Odium. Also, there were fabrials (at least Oathgates) on Ashyn: Surge fabrials (or at least Soulcasters) on Roshar could only have been created in Aimia, and there was a Dawnshard there: If Bondsmiths brought people to Roshar and bound Surges before the Nahel bond, as Syl indicates, then the most reasonable solution is that they were involved in fabrial creation somehow. Also, the description of Dawnshard powers from the The Poem of Ista seems to match Bondsmith powers quite well. The connection between Bondsmith and Dawnshards is never stated explicitly, but it would be one storm of coincidence if they weren't related somehow- 15 replies

theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
KandraAllomancer replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The way I see it, we have five types of cousin spren corresponding to Surges: Windspren = Adhesion Luckspren = Gravitation Lifespren = Progression Flamespren = Division Creationspren = Illumination Then, there are four spren types that match the character of an Order or its Herald: Gloryspren = Bondsmiths Painspren = Stonewards Logicspren = Truthwatchers Laughterspren = Willshapers For symmetry reasons, I would assume that the Elsecaller spren would match the Order's attitude or personality rather than Surge -
theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
KandraAllomancer replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I really like ambitionspren, but unfortunately none of these names ever came up in the books. Could be concentrationspren though. Or awespren, maybe? -
@Stormwalker I generally agree with @Oltux72's idea about the classification, but I think you make a great point about categorizing the Unmade in two ways and using their roles (e.g. leader) for that. If I had to propose a full classification, than the first level would be: The Mindless Unmade: Ashertmarn, Nergaoul, Moelach, obviously. They tend to affect minds for the most part, so I would classify them all as Cognitive The kind-of-clever Unmade (we know too little to propose a better name): Re-Shephir, Chemoarish, Dai-gonarthis. Re-Shephir's modus operandi, the great scale of Aimia's destruction and the name Dustmother make me think they would be Physical The Intelligent Unmade: Sja-Anat, Yelig-Nar, Ba-Ado-Mishram. What they do (rewriting spiritweb, talking via corrupted spren, granting all Surges, massive Connection) seems mostly Spiritual to me There's clearly another level of classification though: Leaders: BAM and Nergaoul lead people/singers to battle. We don't know that much about Chemoarish or Dai-gonarthis to be sure which fits here, to be honest Spies: Sja-anat and Moelach seem to spy for Odium. Once again, I'm not sure if it's Chemoarish or Dai-gonarthis that fits into this category Terror / chaos / anarchy agents: the Unmade that can get behind enemy lines to cause destruction and sow chaos. I would classify Yelig-Nar, Re-Shephir and Ashertmarn here

theory The Unmade and cousin spren
KandraAllomancer replied to KandraAllomancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
Since we now have some new Herald portraits it's time to update the theory. Kalak seems to be surrounded be laughterspren (at least they seem very similar to the depiction from this fan art) which works quite well with my original idea that Ashertmarn would correspond to the Willshaper Order. Dustbringer cousin spren seem to be flamespren, so the match would probably be Chemoarish, in which case Moelach would be likely matched with Edgedancers, only attracted to death rather than life due to its corruption. It seems that the simplest solution was true in the end and I was overcomplicating things here. The Truthwatcher cousin spren seem to be logicspren, attracted to well-thought-out arguments - in other ways, uncovering truth. That works with Sja-anat being the Taker of Secrets, I guess. I have no idea about Elsecaller spren, but I'm willing to keep my idea that they would correspond to Ba-Ado-Mishram intact. Which leads me to the most exciting new potential result - Dai-gonarthis. Nale is surrounded by blue spren whose shape is hard to determine. Color and behavior could indicate joyspren, but that just doesn't work with the character of the Order and its Herald. The best candidate I can think of are the luckspren (Mandras). They seem to have a symbiotic relationship with skyeels (connection to flight and gravity) and greatshells. The latter offer an extremely interesting possibility. What if Dai-gonarthis is attracted to Rosharan fauna and can take control of them in a way similar to what Nergaoul and BAM can do with humans and singers? Dai-gonarthis being essentially a Kaiju Unmade would easily explain how Aimia was scoured, given how many lanceryns lived there (and their remains are lying all over the place, as seen in Kaza's interude). It would also mean that this picture from TWoK might have been more than just Vorin imagination: -
theory Radiant Order Cousin Spren
KandraAllomancer replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Given the new evidence in the form of Herald portraits, here is my proposition: Bondsmith: gloryspren Windrunner: windspren Edgedancer: lifespren Lightweaver: creationspren Stonewards: painspren Skybreakers: luckspren / Mandras Willshapers: laughterspren Dustbringers: flamespren Truthwatchers: logicspren Elsecallers: ??????? (I was convinced it would be logicspren, but apparently that's not the case) -
Continuing my cousin spren theorizing: The spren surrounding Nale are too fuzzy to determine the exact shape, but color and behavior seems to indicate either joyspren or luckspren. The latter are far more probable, given their association with skyeels and greatshells (and, by extension, flight and gravity). Also, I simply cannot imagine Nale attracting joyspren The spren around Kalak look like laugtherspren, which seems fitting given the nature of his Order

The True Origin of the Unmade
KandraAllomancer replied to SomeRandomPeasant's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Singer gods seem to be the Fused, actually: As for the Bondsmith godspren: the Stormfather predates the Shattering and was possibly created by Adonalsium (he was still shaped by perception of singers/humans though), we don't really know enough about the Sibling to be sure, and the Nightwatcher (RoW Lift Interlude spoilers) I still agree with your main point though: I believe the Unmade were originally something very similar to godspren. The lack of any lore related to such spren on Roshar makes me think that they might have been from Ashyn, though. There's actually a relatively new WoB confirming that spren-like beings still exist on Ashyn, despite the cataclysm: -

theory Who and What Surge Shattered The Plains?
KandraAllomancer replied to Child of Hodor's topic in Stormlight Archive
The map only shows the western part of the Plains, so I would assume that the power converged further to the east and the more destroyed land was closer to the impact site. I agree with the rest, that's an awesome theory
