  1. Hey, not a problem! And, a new thread (picking up from where we left off, maybe with a week or two time skip) might be a great opportunity to hop back in! But in the end, that’s your call to make, and there is no pressure either way.
  2. @Ookla of Ravens, quick reminder: given that this RP has no DM, and relies on the players to provide the worldbuilding, having your posts contain a hair more than just your character’s immediate action is often quite useful. For example, their inner thoughts, what they see in the moment, what they smell, even. Details about the surrounding, or specific details on how exactly a motion is done. This allows the other players to get a better feel for what your character is like, how they see the world, and how to best interact with them to make a quality story. Additionally, we want to be careful with godmodding, or controlling other characters’ actions. Even something as simple as punching another character, or tackling them to the ground, is inadvertently robbing them of actions. Maybe their character would expect a punch, and dodge it. Maybe they would make your job even easier! Something such as “Mr Dow threw a punch at John Smith” instead of “John Smith got hit with Mr Doe’s fist” enables a character to have much more freedom. There is actually etiquette for duels in the Alleyverse RP, but I’ve never used it, and have seldom found much use for it. Long story short, the more detail, the better, and be wary of controlling what another character does or robbing someone of their agency.
  3. I’d certainly begin with an idea for a character, and go from there. The world is your oyster, and so long as the character feels real, the likelihood it will get approved is high. I’m a stickler for 3-dimensional characters, and if you make them fun and complex, I might even give you a bit of wiggle room on the power level side of things ;).
  4. Perses, feeling that his point has been made, proceeded to exit. He hoped that Asylum would clean up any unexpected messes. But in the end, Perses didn’t really care. He had what he needed, and the notoriety was an added benefit. With his Atium safely tucked away, Perses pushed on the doorframe, soaring into the night. Today had been a good day.
  5. Okay so basically, it’s a universe, ruled by an all-powerful entity named voidus, which has various rifts torn throughout the multiverse. These rifts can be in any place or time in any of Brandon Sanderson’s worlds. Characters come from anywhere, and they interact. Alleycity is the main hub of this world, with many different areas and guilds. The two main ones are the DA (The Dark Alleys) and TUBA (The Underground Bakers Association). The more ominous sounding one is the bad one, and the friendlier sounding one is the one that was set up to stop the bad one (and promote peace in general). A whole lot of history happened, and right now we are in Era 7, which is meant to be a soft reset, so folks don’t have to keep track of all that much. Heck, you don’t even need to care about the current guilds! Our current plot is based around the going ons of my character, Perses, and his rise to power in the city. Actually, I’m thinking od starting up a new episode, as our first scene is pretty much wrapped up. I’ll inquire with others, but now is a pretty solid time to join, if you’re interested. At its heart, this is a collaborative storytelling forum roleplay. There’s no DM, and you are encouraged do let out your inner writer. It’s a lot of fun, and if you like either roleplay or writing, I strongly recommend trying it out! I’m the main”moderator” at the moment (I don’t actually have moderator privileges, I was just approved by other mods to kinda run things for the time being), and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask em! There’s a lot of info across many threads, and so if you need something, you can totally ask here, and I’ll try to give you the knowledge you seek.
  6. @Ookla thePresentParticiple, quick question: how does he know what a gun is? Perhaps I’m a hair uneducated about pre-Final Empire technology, but I thought there weren’t firearms.
  7. Perses felt the displacement of air, and managed to dodge in the nick of time. At this point, he just wanted out. “I don’t think you quite understand how things work here. We don’t bow down to a higher authority. We only bend a knee to those that can force us to do so.” And that sure as hell won’t be you. “If you think you can do that, I invite you to try. Otherwise, I’ll be going.” With that, Perses picked up his glasses, pocketed them, and began to walk towards the exit.
  8. Perses cleared through the last few goons. Luckily, none of the hotel guests seemed to mind. In a gang-controlled inn, he supposed this wasn’t uncommon. Adrenaline dying down, he surveyed the scene. Much better than last time, with just enough restraint to kill only three people. Plus, Perses noted, the inn was very much still intact. There were still a few people standing, but they decided to wisely stay back. One was holding a stack of books in fear. And then there was Asylum. ”why the hell are you here? And who are these people?” This new girl had some spirit. She was a lurcher, and with the amount of jewelry on her that she clearly didn’t buy, a thief as well. ”I’m Perses, and I’m the Prince of the Alleys” Where had that came from? He had to admit, it did have a nice ring to it. kill them. They are just going to get in the way. Had he known anything about these people, perhaps he would have obliged. However, given that they appear to be civilians, he had no quarrel with them. Plus, it was clear who is in charge here. ”Now if you’d excuse me, I have places to be, and I would like to get there before some more people begin to investigate the commotion.” @Ookla thePresentParticiple, @Ookla of whimsy, @Ookla of Ravens
  9. Jumping down, Perses extinguished his steelsense. “Safety inspector. Looks good to me. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ll be going. As Perses crossed by the man, one of the goons began to walk towards him. He smelled oily, and his clothes certainly hadn’t been washed in some time. ”Before you go, I’ll have to give a quick check,” the man said, in a gravelly and what he must have assumed to be casual voice. “To make sure ya didn’t take anything you weren’t supposed to.” As the man began reaching for Perses’ coat pockets, Perses pressed a coin toward the man and, flaring steel, shoved it through the man’s stomach. As the crony fell, he desperately grabbed at Perses’ face. Though he ended up dodging out of it, the man managed to jostle Perses’ glasses, leaving his spikes exposed. It was then that all hell broke loose. @Ookla of whimsy, @Lunamor
  10. Perses, bag in hand, returned up his surroundings. Unfortunately, he had been noticed. The lobby goons had perked up, and a character was beginning to investigate the elevator. There was also a smaller life signature of a child, along with…Asylum Smedry. Fantastic. Perses searched for a way out that didn’t involve confrontation, and couldn’t find one. Picking up his glasses, he climbed up onto the elevator and opened the hatch, looking down onto the meddler. ”Hello there! Standard maintenance check.” @Lunamor, @Ookla of Ravens, @Ookla of whimsy
  11. Perses was growing tired of trying to find a way into this safe. There was no obvious marks on the buttons, and no easy way to pry the blasted thing free. You can always use the powers we gave you, the voices whispered. Feeling his adrenaline spike, Perses burned steel, picked up a coin, and pushed. One thing about aluminum is that it is not very hard to break. With a large clang, the aluminum chipped. Of course, the actual safe was solid steel. Double great. Holding on to the walls of the shaft, Perses pulled with his iron at the opening in the aluminum, hoping the lid would break before his arms did. After the ear-splitting strain of metal, the safe’s door launched off of its hinges. Losing his balance, Perses instinctively tapped his balancemind. The vault lid clattered to the ground, with Perses stabilizing with a soft thud. The air reeked of dust and metal. Probing the inside of the vault, Perses found what he was looking for. A cloth pouch, with eight small beads inside. Opening the pouch, he felt the smooth surface of an atium bead in his hand. He was rich. @Lunamor, @Ookla of Ravens, @Ookla of whimsy
  12. Perses found the vault fairly easily. A large blank area in a normally clear picture is a fairly dead giveaway. Perses extinguished his steelsight when he got his hands on the vault. Running his fingers over the vault, Perses swiftly realized that there was a passcode, with all exteriors made of aluminum. Great. Guess this would be harder than I thought.
  13. Something worth noting, and this is relevant for everyone, but especially @Ookla the Prehistoric and @Ookla thePresentParticiple, you are more than welcome to make up details. If something hasn’t been explicitly said by someone else, then make things up. I as Perses didn’t describe anything about Pewter Ironworks, which means you are more than welcome to make up any amount of details about the building and the attack itself. Heck, I’ve left the gang fairly vague. Anything goes, so long as it maintains continuity with what others have said. We want to be careful of godmodding (making up or controlling actions that another character did), but making up the setting and backstory is actually quite useful! We are all DMs here, so we get to storybuild all we want!
  14. Perses, The Mistwarrens, Alleycity. The sun has long since set, and the activity of the Inn was dying down. The only people about were the night shift, and many were having a drink in the staff room. This was the time for Perses to strike. Perses made his way down to the lobby, senses on high alert. There were five people in the main area, with one fast asleep. He walked up to the front desk. This woman smelled of salt and newly dried hair. And of course, she was a soother. "Hello ma'am. There appears to be a patch of blood in my room. Could you get someone to clean that up? The room is 202B." The woman got off of what seemed to be a personal computer, and sighed. "Yeah, that was probably from yesterday. There were two folks using that room, and things ended up getting nasty. I'll deal with it right away." The woman had a nice voice, with a cute drawl to it. Maybe in another life he would have... Rusting soothers. As the woman turned to leave, Perses headed to the elevator. Once he got in, he tapped his steelsense-mind. The maintinence hatch wasn't particularly difficult to get open, and though he might not have needed to, he opened it as quietly as possible. Closing the hatch behind him, Perses got to work.
  15. Something to note! Perses is currently in his room, and not in the main lobby. I can change things if needed, though. Plus, they are currently wearing blinder’s glasses over their spikes.
  16. That he does! They aren’t as big as inquisitor’s, and can be hid behind glasses, albeit with a small amount of scarring poking out of the edges of the rims. The spikes don’t go that far, so no poking through the back of the head. But the will be visible and reminiscent of inquisitors for the aware folk. I’m no expert, so don’t take my word for it, but from what I understand, it is generally in flux. There are heads of organizations, but I think the closest you have to governmental heads are Voidus and co. Generally you would need people powerful enough to stay in power even when new and potentially very dangerous arrivals are coming in at any given time.
  17. Perses, The Mistwarrens, Coppercloud Inn. Perses idly continued his probing of the Inn. People came and went, and as the day turned to night, a new influx of people began to arrive. No one of particular concern, however. There was a seeker and a pewterarm conversing in the lobby a few hours ago, though their current whereabouts were of little concern to Perses. As he probed, storing most of his other senses, he felt an odd wave of energy go over him. Searching for the source of the influx of investiture, Perses found a newcomer sweet talking the desk clerk, with the now familiar burn of a lurcher following in toe. However, given the soother’s charm, it seemed to him that the traveler was the one getting swindled. They had a distinctive faint aura to them, with some powerful mass emanating from their body. “How in the—“ Perses said out loud. He rarely expects Asylum Smedry’s arrival at any point, but the rascal seems to always make an appearance at the least likely times. What are they doing here? @Ookla of whimsy
  18. Well, this sure is interesting! The only thing that I might recommend keeping in the back of your mind is that you are playing a very scholarly character just entering a city with enough lore that I don’t even know most of. So given that it would be in this character’s nature to delve into Alleycity’s past, you would want to get that past right. So by playing this character, you and your character would likely both end up hitting the books on Alleycity’s lore. I’m sure if you have questions that you can ask @Ookla the Glossy, as they would know far more than I. This is a much more complex character than your other one, which means roleplaying and writing will need to be much more intensive to make the character feel real and fleshed out, especially without any powers. But so long as you are up to the challenge, this character is approved! I’m excited to see where you can take this!
  19. @Ookla of Ravens, a post is up for ya. I didn’t realize to tag you before I posted, and I’m not sure if editing tags you. So here’s a tag!
  20. Arges, The Mistwarrens, Coppercloud inn Arges, recieving the man’s books, took the stack, carefully trying to hide his glee. Though the scrawny fellow had trouble carrying them, with a bit of pewter, Arges lifted the pile with ease. With that out of the way, Arges sauntered over to an open table. Ignoring the quiet, but still audible, snickers from the rest of the crew, he began to browse his goods. The books he acquired were vintage; from Rapiers of the Cosmere to The Extensive and Certainly Comprehensible History of Crystalian Blades. However, the crown jewel of his antique blacksmithing collection was… It was…… Arges stood up. Where did that delivery man go? Quickly glaring at everyone around to back off from the merchandise, he dashed out the door. ”Wait! I’m missing a book!” @Ookla of Ravens
  21. Well, what would be a good reason for your character to stick around?
  22. @Ookla of Ravens what's your plan? Perses is planning on waiting til night falls to make his move. If you want to somehow be involved or witness to it, you should figure out some way to stick around. If you want, I could RP a side character to give you some sort of reason to stay, but you would know best as to what that reason would be.
  23. @Ookla of Ravens and anyone that wonders: if there is a side character, and you need to interact with them, if it’s for a short period of time, you are free to crew that character for a bit. However, you can also ask someone else to RP that side character if you particularly want to. The things a DM would normally do, such as describe the scene, guide the plot, and RP side characters, are all done by us, the players. You are all more than allowed to make up details about a room, and establish side characters in a place. Raven, if you want me to roleplay the person that you are handing books to, I am more than happy to. You can also roleplay it themselves, if you so choose. Obviously if you want more than a single exchange with a side character, you might want someone else to roleplay. However, as you’ve seen with @Ookla of whimsy’s Not Tim, you can also just roleplay a brief exchange yourself.
