  1. idk if I count as venerable but here I am. I joined the Shard in checks pfp 2019, which doesn't seem that long ago, but I guess its been 5 years. And yeah, it's been interesting to see a shift. My eager theory crafting days are largely over, but that's mostly because I'm only mostly theorizing with each new book release instead of based around the entirety of the cosmere when it was new to me. I still try my darnedest to make appearances around the theory forums, but like you, I've mostly relegated myself to the RP side of the Shard. As the currently only active mod of the Alleyverse subforum (that you should all check out!) and the main reason for the revival of it last year, it has become a passion project that I am incredibly proud of. I don't know if I'm someone that people outside of the Alleyverse forums see as someone to be venerated, but I do know that in my first few years I really wanted to be someone that was known and respected on the Shard. And honestly? It wasn't a good time. That sort of thing comes naturally, and it happens when you find your niche. For me, that was originally hailing the powers of F-Tin (which I absolutely still do, just not as vigilantly) and now being the head of the Alleyverse. Actually, I don't really know the overlap between SE and Alleyverse RPers. I'm 90% sure that there are more SE players, but the formats are just different enough to attract different crowds. Maybe we could do a joint advertising campaign at some point, where you advertise SE on the Alleyverse forum, and I advertise the Alleyverse over on the SE forum. I've been thinking of ways to grow the Alleyverse community, and that sounds like a pretty harmless way of doing it. But I'm getting off track.
  2. overall, I like the character. Seems interesting and something that could be fun to RP with. I have two questions though. 1. why is their name Allomantic Tin? Both for a meta sense and an in world sense. 2. why is his mentor named Halal? like sure it fits Alethi naming standards of almost being a ketek, but it feels weird to have someone named after a religious dietary practice.
  3. Perses, Mistkeep, Wickwillow Manor. Perses paced Wickwillow Manor, comforted by the soft hum of the walls. Once, this place was his prison, a place where he nearly went mad from isolation. Now, it was his domain. Perses still hadn't fully forgiven Belias for his tactics in getting him on his side, but he did admit that his stay here had made him realize important things about the world. That the only person that is there to help you is yourself. That meeting with the constables, Belias said in his mind, could have gone better. His voice felt louder here. Not as loud as when in the Alleys, but it was close. The ever shifting walls, the corrupted creatures that slip into Alleycity. This place was one of a kind, Belias had said. A place where the Alleys and this realm met, and stayed touching. A permanent Alleyway. It had been constantly growing, beginning to affect other buildings in this block. Perses wondered how long Belias could keep this place a secret. "The Mistwarrens seem under control at the moment. What worries me is New Hallandren," Perses stated, his feet creaking as he walked. Yes. The developments there are...troubling. Perhaps further investigation is needed. Perses found himself agreeing with the Alleybeing. He was always slightly reluctant to follow his orders, as Belias had promised an end to working under someone. Yet since he couldn't directly influence this realm, Perses didn't give it too much thought. Though Belias was granting him sanctuary and abilities, he was still in control. Putting on his old mistcoat and blinders glasses, he called upon Belias to send him to the now locked down New Hallandren.
  4. “Well, seeing as no one died, I’d say it went surprisingly well. And despite what you might think of me, I do want people to thrive here. However, given that all the other districts left the people of this area out to die, I want them as far away from this place as possible.” ”And places like this,” Perses said, gesturing to the now battered room, “are remnants of a system that was built to keep the broken down and locked up.” Perses pointed to the Elantrian and the Radiant in turn. “Go jail the crooks and petty thieves this place, but if you think you know what’s best for this place, you are sorely mistaken.” With that, Perses left, cloak billowing behind him. @KnightSkye
  5. Perses, having regained his composure and his weapon, addressed the policeman. "Unlike this man, I am here on peaceful terms. I wanted to make sure everything's running smoothly. Given how you managed to deal with this one, I'd say things are going well enough." He turned to leave. "I also wanted to remind you of the deal we have. You stay out of my affairs, and I stay out of yours." Perses turned his head towards the others. "If a simple coinshot made this much of a mess to your precinct, I hope, for your sakes, you never find out what I would do." @TwinStorm @KnightSkye
  6. Perses reflexively flared his steel, pushing the metals that sent his way. Perses pulled out his gun and— A wave of pain seared through him. He screamed, dropping his weapon. He quickly stored pain, not feeling the effects. It was an incredibly dangerous thing to do, as he didn’t know the source of the pain. For all he knew, he had been shot. It didn’t feel like he had been shot, though. Feeling around, he felt nothing. What was that? @SpiritOfWrath @KnightSkye
  7. Well, he tried. Perses pulled on the bullets in the coinshot’s pistol and simultaneously pushed on the vials in his pocket. A trick he had learned with other coinshots or lurchers was to overwhelm them. Let’s see if it would work. In a swift motion, Perses moved towards the man, letting his awakened mistcoat barrage him with its tassels, each with a sharpened bone blade at their tips. Normally, he kept his distance, using his firearm to deal most of the damage. Yet if he could help it, he wouldn’t tear up the precinct without showing that was his intention. He couldn’t push on the man’s metalminds, but he could tell what he was burning and tapping, and when he was flaring. It should give Perses the upper hand, but he made sure to never underestimate another Twinborn. All senses on high alert, Perses braced for a fight. @KnightSkye @SpiritOfWrath Venser, The Corridor, The Silver Dagger. In half a year’s time, The Silver Dagger had flourished. What was once one of the most popular taverns in the city was now a sprawling shop, specially catered to Scadrian metalborn. From bracers to vials, The Silver Dagger was always in stock of anything a metalborn would need. It also sold premium aluminum gear, some aluminum lined hats, and various fashions of mistcoat and mistcloak, along with weapons of all different types and styles. And of course, the cashier’s desk doubled as a bar. Venser, the head shopkeep of the most popular metalborn shop in the Corridor, was rarely what people expected. A Thaylen Rosharan, with no special capabilities, he took the initial odd glances of newcomers in stride. One didn’t need to be a local to know how to cater to them. It was a good life, and an immensely profitable one. While the main shop gave him plenty of wealth, his back rooms arms deals were what really gave him profits. Custom made weaponry, of some of the highest quality in Alleycity. A bell rang as a new customer arrived. They seemed wary of the place, and seemed weathered for their age. Clearly they knew what they were doing, but played it off like they didn’t. For someone so keen on the details, Venser saw a lot of similar qualities in this one. While none of this showed to most, Venser had long ago learned that reading people was a key part of the profession. ”Welcome, welcome! What can I do for you today?”
  8. Is his weapon made of metal/shoot metal? Don’t know how decked out they are in aluminum.
  9. @TwinStorm I don’t know if you saw, but to continue with my Perses scene, I would need to know what metals your character has on you, because Perses is looking to mess with things.
  10. Yeah this is something that we’re wrestling with a bit. Like on the one hand, we don’t want to force a plotline, as this is meant to be a free form RP, but at the same time… The current thought is that there will be preparation made to try to nudge the plot towards New Hallandren, and of course when UFO does more than just scheming and mobilizing to do things, there will doubtlessly be more involvement there. If you have suggestions on how to nudge the non-UFO folk to be more interested in what’s going on, I’m willing to hear it! But it shouldn’t get in the way of player agency.
  11. Sure! Venser has previously been located in the corridor, assuming that's good with you.
  12. Perses sighed. His heartbeat thrummed in his chest, and his body itched for a fight. It took everything in his power to back from listening to it. ”I’m here to check in on this establishment. To make sure everything is as it should be.” “And this man has nothing to do with me.” He noticed the radiant’s heart rate spiked when entering the room. Was that because of him, or because of the other guy? Something for him to pay attention to. Perses tapped lifesense, pushing it to detect everyone in the building. “How many officers would you say serve in this precinct? Obviously not all of them are in the building, but if you were to call an all hands on deck?” While this was usually where he paced menacingly, something told him that getting these people to respect him rather than just fear him would be wise. @Steel Speedster @KnightSkye
  13. As he opened the door, someone stood in front of Perses. They didn't have any scent to them, and didn't breathe. No heartbeat either. So, a spren. "Stormwinds." Skye said, letting them see her, "You're ugly," the spren uttered. Perses, quite frankly, couldn't care less. He had never seen himself, and likely never will. What did annoy him was the lack of respect. However, they were a spren, so he didn't bother. From his limited experience, spren weren't clued in to much of human culture, and were rarely particularly dangerous unless when not in the cognitive realm. More pressingly, the elantrian was drawing aeons at him. Perses pushed himself off of a bit of metal off to his left, likely a metal puctureframe, sending him flying to the other wall. Most aons were purely visual, with no other sense picking up on them. While Perses could sense that an aon was being drawn, he had no idea what it was. Hopefully whatever was drawn was something that needed to be aimed. Suddenly, he heard a roar of flame, with heat lapping at his side. Tapping an incredible amount of steelsight, he gained a decent picture of the surroundings of the room. He burns either steel or iron whenever he can, as while they are useful as an allomantic ability, storing the steelsight was infinitely more valuable. At this point his steelsight stores were vast. However, with the amount he was using, he could only keep up this amount of steelsight use for a few minutes before his stores ran out. From this image, he could see what was going on. The elantrian had cast some sort of flame aeon, which was unfortunately invisible to his steelsight. However, tapping heatsense, he could feel its presence. Luckily his steelpush had gotten him out of harm's way, but he couldn't let them get another attempt. He could see their hands now, but he wouldn't know if an aon was done drawing. "Can you not?" Perses yelled at the elantrian. "I'm not here to fight!" He would if he had to, and he wasn't particularly worried, but an elantrian was someone that he would avoid fighting if he could help it. Still, Perses tapped a large amount of bronzesense, being sure to know when an aeon was being drawn. He couldn't know the details, but given the previous aon, he assumed that they weren't going to be friendly ones. @TwinStorm
  14. If Perses still had eyes, he would have rolled them. “Among other things. Now, if you want so badly to stay alive, I advise you don’t make a habit of getting in the way of where I want to go.” With that, Perses opened the door to the small police precinct on Kredik street. @KnightSkye @SpiritOfWrath
  15. Perses sighed. “Evidently, not everyone. Now, determination sure helps, but still. My job’s far from over.” The stranger had a point though. What was his goal? Ultimately, he wanted to be respected. He had that now, for the most part. What’s next? Perses began walking to the police station, turning his head to respond. “I want to keep this place in check. This is the worst district of the city. Do you think I want it to stay that way?” This, he knew, was a lie. Yes, he was disgusted by the state of this place. But to him, this was how it was. It was a kill or be killed world, where might was all that mattered. Now that he was on top, all he had to do was stay there. And to do that, he had to keep things in check.
  16. Perses halted, annoyed. What made this man think it was a good idea to annoy him? The man felt twisted to his lifesense. With a brief flash of steelsense, he found it. A hemalurgist, like him. He had two different metalminds, yet Perses wasn’t experienced enough to know which ones. A Twinborn with a feruchemantic spike, eh? Interesting. Bronzesense showed that he had F-zinc. Whether it was his spiked metal was unclear, and Perses didn’t want to waste further bronzesense to find out. ”I have business to attend to. Unless you have something that you think is worth my time, I suggest you get out of the way.” Though the man intrigued Perses, he had no reason to bother with him.
  17. Perses, The Alleys. Perses wandered the Alleys. It was meant to be chaotic, and he was assured it was. However, with Belias’ protection, he experienced none of that. Instead, he wandered Belias’ domain unimpeded. It was an odd experience. There was no noise, not even the sounds of his footsteps. The plane was perfectly flat, with no variation in the terrain. He knew it wasn’t always like this, but at this point, Perses was unsure if this was even the Alleys anymore. Could Belias really have this large of an expanse to himself? The one thing Perses could detect was the Alleyways. Whether that was through his bond with Belias or a natural consequence of the Alleys, he didn’t know. Whenever an Alleyway opened or closed, he could sense it. He had a general idea of where it went, and if he needed to, he could consult Belias on where specifically it popped out. Right now though, Perses didn’t care where he went, so long as it was in the Mistwarrens. ….. Stepping through the Alleyway, he emerged back into Alleycity. A flood of senses hit him, first of which was the damp and smelly air of the slums. Perfect. Begrudgingly, Perses took to the skies. He had spent over a year with his additional Allomantic abilities, and while he was much more competent with them than he used to be, he hadn’t fully embraced them. Especially not flying. Storing his balancemind and touchminds, he felt less of the effects of throwing himself into the air. However, it was still disorienting. Landing perfectly on a rooftop, he sent out a pulse of senses to determine his location. He was used to using his powers in this way. It’s what he did since he was a kid, stumbling around Scadrian streets. It’s what he did as a scout in the Cognitive Realm, relaying it to his crew. At this point, it was second nature. In the span of about a minute, Perses cycled through his senses, storing all but one in sequence, which he tapped to an extreme. First, he felt everything. The wind, the humidity. It was cold, but not windy. The air was damp, and soot gently brushed up against his arms. Then was smell, where he took in the rank odors of the city. The faint smell of chouta pierced through the haze, which narrowed things down. There was a Rosharan restaurant near smokestack, but most of the Herdazian cuisine was between the corridor and the Sphere, as it was cheap and relatively easy to make. He stored that, tapping his lifesense. A congregation of people was off to his right, doubtlessly a shelter of some sort. In the distance there was a few stores, with some people grouped as if in a bar. Given that was where he smelled the food from, it was a safe bet to assume that was a restaurant. At this point, he was confident he was near the Sphere. Still, taking in more information was useful. He tapped his bronzesense, pushing beyond the other senses. A weak pulse of a Coppercloud came from the shelter, with the light burn of brass coming from the restaurant. On the other side of the building, the buzz of steel was felt, from someone that appeared to be snooping on a small group of people. More interestingly though was the thrum of what appeared to be Selish Elantrian magic coming from someone the coinshot was snooping on. Moving on, Perses tapped steelsense, where he was greeted with a faint image of the area around him. Though it was far from perfect, most places had specks of metal lying about, allowing Perses to get an idea of the area around him. As he suspected, the various bits of metal in the building next door confirmed it was a shelter. A pile of silverware off to the side, with metal scraps and items strewn across the place. A few people even had weapons on them, carefully concealed. The seeker had a bit of aluminum on them, as it was a notable void in his vision. Interesting. Lastly, Perses tapped hearingsense. This was the most chaotic of his senses, but he had learned to selectively focus on different things around him, ignoring the rest of the noise. He decided to focus on the distant conversation with the Elantrian. “—other radiants here? Windrunners?” A radiant, eh? Perses had told them to mind their own business, but maybe this was a loner. ”There is a place, but I think the two of you need to lay low for a while. The Shardthief is particularly… yeah” Interesting. Hearing the conversations around them, it was clear where he was. That was the police precinct off of Kredik Street. It was nothing he had paid much mind to, as the people there only dealt with smaller crimes. Petty theft, muggings, a murder here and there. They stayed clear of interfering with him, especially after he had reminded them not to by killing a detective that had tracked him down to his old hideout. Still, with an elantrian and a radiant, the police station could be more of an issue than he expected. Perhaps it was time to pay them a visit. Quiet as a mouse, Perses landed back onto the street, with a new destination in mind. @KnightSkye @TwinStorm @SpiritOfWrath
  18. Approved!
  19. looks much better! approved! Be wary of godmodding though, as this seems like something that could be easily godmodded without intending to. yeah I think overall that's okay. Approved! right now UFO is in its infancy in the public eye, and so while at the moment they're in New Hallandren, that might change depending on how things go in these episodes.
  20. Hm. A few wonderings: -losing a hand seems to be a generally decent weakness, but the method is curious. What type of anti-investiture person attacked him? If we’re talking UFO, @Stormlightsong will need to back me up, but from what u understand, it is an organization that by and large have stayed out of Alleyverse meddlings, and have really only been gathering people and forming plans during this time. Now, there obviously has to be people that care deeply enough to join up, so I’m not saying that such a person wouldn’t exist in the Alleyverse. However, a more fleshed out encounter might be nice, if only to better round out that part of the character’s backstory -a police grunt seems like a decent idea for a character, though obviously an elantrian would likely rise in the ranks quickly. Also, which district are they serving? If they’re living in the mistwarrens, I assume one of the Scadrian districts would make sense, but for an Elantrian to situate in a Scadrian district is itself odd. Certainly not unheard of, as this is a city full of different people and different backgrounds, but perhaps a short explanation as to why he chose a majority Scadrian district to live in would be useful. -I will need to look into the power sets of Elantrians, as I will admit I’m not particularly familiar with their powers. If you could summarize the types of things you envision your character is able to do, that might help a bit, but of course I’ll also consult the Coppermind. I like the idea of someone who had killed their sibling due to a rift in beliefs and organizations, and I think there’s a lot that can be done with that. Again, I don’t really know how likely it would be that UFO would be engaged in attacking Radiants, especially if they’re on the down low, but that’s something to bring up with @Stormlightsong. Overall though looks like a solid character. I’d check in about the UFO stuff first before I approve it tho.
  21. I’m a big fan of that idea! It ties things together pretty nicely. Of course it’s one of those theories we have no evidence for whatsoever, but that’s the case for a lot of Nightblood theories.
  22. @Steel Speedster it seems your character wants to meet with Perses, at least in some way. How do you imagine that happening? At this point Perses doesn’t have a clear goal for the era, and is mostly going to be a sporadically appearing nuisance. Suffice to say, I can make pretty much any scenario you want work.
