  1. Jim looked aghast. “Don’t do that! Think of the paperwork that would have to be filed! My death would be a nightmare for the workplace safety department!”
  2. "Practical." Lyric said. He cleared his throat, then sang. "Oh great forest, we take our leave of you. We travel to a shopping mall, our questing to commence!" He turned to Jack. "Do you want to walk, or shall I call up some birds?" "My father was a mortician. I did some work as his assistant before I joined the Ennullers." Jim said absently, flipping through his clipboard. "Here we are. protocol for situations like this." His eyes moved across the paper, and he mumbled softly to himself as he read. "...don't read this part aloud ... try to isolate them ... lie and tell them it'll be okay ..." He nodded, looking back up. "Alright. Don't worry, you're going to be okay. Now, I need to know more about this disease, so if you know anyone who might know anything about it, please let me know." Unintelligible gulped. "Yep. Got it. Um, just... make it quick." He stared back into Sequence's eyes, and took a deep breath. "Alright, I'm ready."
  3. Jim gave a forced chuckle. "I am certain you will be fine. There is no need for undue concern, I am trained for situations just like this."
  4. "Nope! It was all total gobbledygook." Lyric said bluntly. "But I have discerned the location of at least thirty temples, holy sites, or shopping malls we can visit in order to find the enlightenment they experienced." Jim the Enuller stand-in nodded. "We'll be in touch once you've gotten him off the planet, then. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some standing-in to do." He vanished in an ambiguous flash of darkness. -- The Ennuller stand in reappeared. "Sorry about that, I got called in on something important that nobody wanted to do." He glanced at his clipboard. "Now, where were we? My notes say something about you having an incurable magical disease whose effects are unknown but probably going to kill you both deader than dead?" He flipped page. "Ah. I was absolutely not supposed to say that part out loud yet." @Hawks@Sherma MainWas anyone else here?
  5. A screen flickers to life, and Malevolence’s face appears on it. “You’re going to just sit in here with the paper?”
  6. Moni flinched, but didn't remove her hand from his arm. "Of... course not." Her gaze hardened. "But you don't tell me what to do either, and if I want to stop you from doing something stupid, I will."
  7. "I'm fairly certain that's a normal part of the healing process for wounds like this." Unintelligible said uncertainly. He noticed the look on Sequence's face. "Oh." He let out a melodramatic sigh. "Alright. It'll definitely be fine on its own, but just in case, you can try and treat it." "Most of them got that knowledge through communion with higher powers." Lyric explained. "They didn't seem to be capable of explaining it in a way that made sense on their own." "I was speaking of extra precautions which we would implant into the clone." Jim the Ennuller handed Rebus a form. "Nothing that would interfere with any ordinary activities. Just insurance, in case the clone were to take actions threatening the integrity of the Wall." Someone grabbed Cricket's arm. "You don't want to do that."
  8. Yes, Mr. Ennuller stand in was there. He's a little busy talking to Rebus, but he can be back after that's over. "I could help you!" Lyric said. "It is my sacred duty to guide all who enter these woods. And I've had lots of wanderers who held secret knowledge of the meaning of life come through here over the years." The Ennuller stand-in nodded. "That is good to hear. We would, however, require some way to keep tabs on you during your travels. Insurance in case your depowered clone went rogue in some way."
  9. "It's fine. I've had this thing for about an hour now, and it's barely grown at all!" Unintelligible surreptitiously attempted to scrub the black residue off of a scratch on the finger that had almost gotten stabbed.
  10. Unintelligible leaned away from the match, hand moving up to cover the gash. "I'm fine!" He said a little too quickly. "It's just a scratch. I'm sure it will heal on its own." he brushed the gash accidentally, inducing a tiny tendril of darkness to shoot out and attempt to spear through the offending finger. "All part of the normal healing process." Unintelligible said unconvincingly. "As I said, us Ooklas are durable." "Oh." Lyric frowned. "Perhaps you should go on a quest to discover what you should do with your life, then." The Ennuller stand-in frowned, pulling a paper off of his clipboard. "Actually, the terms of the agreement were: you, Dr. Rebus Honesty Clarke, agreed not to threaten the existence of the Thread or the Wall in exchange for not being targeted by the Ennuller Council." He put the paper back on the clipboard. "Now that you have Antagonist, leaving the Thread could constitute a danger to the Wall's integrity, or at least to the purpose of its existence. As such, we will need further assurances that this is not your intent in leaving."
  11. Syl and Kaladin's bond didn't seem to be on hold. She's in the illusion with him, just as Nale's spren went with him to Braize.
  12. A Mistwraith probably wouldn't have the cognition to be able to use Yelig-nar, and Yelig-nar probably isn't smart enough to control them on its own.
  13. "I have some contacts. Mostly I just followed the trail of destruction they left." Unintelligible grimaced. "It wasn't particularly difficult. They've been causing a lot of damage." He shook himself. "But that's a problem we'll have to solve later. For now, the important part is that these rabbits were, until recently, being controlled by someone." Lyric cocked his head. "Surely you have some goal. What do you wish to do with your life?" The Ennuller stand-in nodded. "We do usually approve the leaving permits of non-Narrators. However, yours is a... special case." His eyes flicked briefly to Rebus's crown. "You have been deemed a significant danger to the Thread, and as such any travel requests will need further evaluation."
  14. "I can't stand seeing you hurting." Unintelligible shot back. "The rabbit isn't the cure, but it can hopefully lead us to one. It's bonded to a withergeist." "Impressive!" Lyric looked suitably impressed. "So, mechanical man, if not the spring, what do you seek?" The man relaxed, flipping through papers on his clipboard. "Yes, everything appears to be in order. Except..." He frowned. "I apologize. I'm just an Ennuller stand-in, the guy they send to do jobs they don't want to do, and I didn't have time to run through the specifics of your case. But I can't seem to find your permit to leave the Thread." He flipped through more papers, then nodded. "Sorry, I can't find it. Perhaps you have an inkling of what page it was on?"
  15. "True." Lyric squinted at Jack, then gasped softly. "I must ask, are you a mechanical being?" "Very well. We shall speak when the time comes." The smoke pulled inward, then vanished. A man holding a clipboard appeared next to Rebus. He looked as if he had pulled a short straw, and wasn't particularly happy about it. The man coughed. Then he cleared his throat."Er, are you Rebus?" his eyes flicked to the crown on Rebus's head, a small bead of sweat running down the side of his face. "I'm, um, here to tell you you're not allowed to leave." Unintelligible grumbled something about Ooklas being resistant to infections, but allowed Sequence to push him into the chair. "You didn't answer my question. Are you really okay? The wound isn't getting any worse?"
  16. "I am Klave." says Klave, offering Erryin his right hand. "Who are you?"
  17. Unintelligible shrugged off her concerns. "I'm fine. None of them are particularly deep, and the darkness seems to be ejecting itself from the one on my face." He held up the cage. "To answer your question, this is the best lead I have on your cure, barring time travel to get a Luxsprite." Inside the cage is a rabbit with void-black eyes. "Thanks for the invitation, by the way. I didn't realize the rabbits had some sort of hive mind when I executed my plan to capture one of them, and I would've been in a bit of a bind without it." "Somebody spread a bunch of nonsense stories about some immortal, deathless knight wandering the forest, killing any who seek the fountain." Lyric replied. "Totally baseless, I'm sure. I would've met that guy by now." The smoke billowed, and Omen's voice spoke again. "You are... correct." The voice seemed to solidify, growing more stable. "The Dreamsmith agrees that you have done a far better job of containing Antagonist than some would have. And for now, with Protagonist nowhere in sight, he cannot fulfill his plan." The smoke swirled, screaming faces forming and dissolving on its shifting surface. "He sent me to see if you will give up Antagonist willingly, when Protagonist is found."
  18. Klave steps through a doorway and enters the hallway of doors. He is a man of middling height with black hair and a beard dusted with grey. His eyes are silver-grey, and his face is covered in scars. He wears a dark grey cloak, sturdy boots, and a leather glove on his left hand. His right hand rests on the hilt of a plain sword that pokes from his cloak. He looks around at the endless corridor of doors, clearly in awe at the sight.
  19. Moni stood quickly, setting her tea down. "Yes, you probably should. What kind of trouble is he in n- Unintelligible chose this moment to appear at the party. He was covered in scratches, including one long gash just under his right eye that appeared to be leaking black smoke, and held a small metal cage under one arm. "Sequence!" He exclaimed, face brightening. "Sorry I'm late. I think I might have a way to help heal you!" He paused. "If you need it, at least. Your letter said you didn't?" Lyric nodded. "Exactly. Besides, I don't think the fountain even exists. I've been guarding these forests for a while now, and I've never found it!" Moni noticed Rebus's crown and gasped softly. Before she could do anything else, however, a pillar of smoke burst from the ground before Rebus. A wavering, whispery voice spoke from the smoke. "Rebus. You are in possession of an object of great power. Too great."
  20. On the first page is the only text in the book. It reads: "Work in progress".
  21. On the ground where the Ennuller had stood, a book lay. Large letters on the cover proclaimed its name: "TLT Rulebook: a comprehensive guide".
  22. "The way he lights up whenever you're around for one." Moni said, raising a finger on one hand as if counting. "Then there's the way he's always concerned about you." She raised another. "And of course you can't forget that time he died for you, then came back to life when that wasn't enough." She raised two more. "And if that wasn't enough, the look on his face when you two danced would've said all I needed to know." She raised her final finger, then let her hand drop. "He absolutely likes you." Unintelligible noticed this, although the invitation had just been knocked from his hands by one of the small but vicious creatures he'd been hunting, and now lay behind a veritable sea of tiny black eyes that somehow stood out from the lesser darkness surrounding them. Right. No problem. Just get through all of those, and I'm out of here with no trouble at all.
  23. Of course. Reality rippled around the Ennuller, a hole into darkness visible for a brief moment, then he was gone.
  24. "Of course." The man made some more notes on his clipboard. "I would also like to note that unlike you, Rebus has been classified as extremely dangerous, and will absolutely not allowed to leave TLT under any circumstances. He will not be able to slip through any 'cracks' in our system like you did." KDJ saw a young child playing in a village that was built by a wall of darkness that stretched into eternity. He saw the child, now in his teens, approached by two men holding clipboards. He saw a young man seated at a desk, an orb of darkness hovering before him. The man's eyes shot towards KDJ, surprise crossing his face. He tapped his pen. KDJ's vision of the man's story flickered, then fell into shadow. If you had asked, I would have told you that I am an Ennuller. I hold power over Darkness and Order. And I am no threat to you. In fact, I was just leaving. My task is completed, and Ennullers could be as dangerous outside of TLT as Narrators.
  25. The man appears to have no powers at all. In fact, if he were normally capable of such a thing, KDJ could not even detect the man's soul. "You could've asked why Rebus found leaving the Thread impossible." The man pointed out. "He knows enough of our organization to inform you."
