    Subversion leaned closer to Ivisyre. "How does one have a Narrationblade without being a Narrator? And he doesn't even know it's a Narrationblade? That seems... very odd." As Ryver convinced Cadewyn to help him defeat Ivisyre, Subversion's eyes widened slightly. Oh dear, I do hope he survives this attempted betrayal. She glanced at Ivisyre, hoping the 'slimy power hungry person' in question hadn't been eavesdropping like she had. "This world of his sounds very interesting, doesn't it? Perhaps I should go visit it someday." @Sequence

    The rabbit stared back at Sequence, quickly glanced at Unintelligible, then looked back to Sequence. "Yeah right." Unintelligible scoffed. "Look, if you're not going to throw it in the furnace, then I will." He reached to grab the rabbit's cage. "No reward is going to convince this thing to talk. It's too afraid of whoever that mysterious master of theirs was." "Well," Subversion said. "As long as you're confident." Wait, what's this guy's name again?

    "Ivisyre is not a fake name." Subversion's voice sounded amused. "And if your world truly has Narrationblades, it would be rather difficult, even for one such as me, to threaten it." Subversion happily did not point out that she'd merely promised that Ryver's favor would not involve harm to his planet, not that she herself would avoid harming it. "Yes, most characters seem to dislike their Authors. The less Thread-aware ones, at least." Lyric resisted at first, but allowed Jack to pull him away. "What are you doing? Didn't we come here to find the Sage? I'm sure those people know where he is." Unintelligible raised his eyebrow in shock. What happened to good cop? He wondered. Out loud, he merely said "Make sure the furnace door is reinforced. That thing is tough, and it might take a while to die." He gave the witherabbit a glare. "While you're doing that, I'll see if I can't get that information out of him." He cracked his knuckles threateningly and stood. Subversion felt guilty suddenly, which she found rather frustrating. I thought I cut that part of myself out. Come to think of it, where is the traveler anyways? Shouldn't she be done by now? "Are you certain you don't want backup?" Subversion peered innocently down into the sea. "She certainly did a number on you last time the two of you fought. Besides," she continued, giving Ivisyre a sideways look. "I hear Unintelligible is there too. He's not very happy about how that last fight went."

    "Oh, Everyone is what Ivisyre used to be called. Before the whole battle with Sequence that caused those injuries. Say, are there really many Narrationblades on your home planet?" "I see. I assume you've communicated with your Author directly before?"

    “Great!” Unintelligible whispered. Then, in a voice raised just enough for the rabbit to overhear, he continued. “Look, if that thing doesn’t start talking soon, we’d be better off just disposing of it.” — Oh, I do. Subversion could perhaps have interpreted the vibrations, if she was a computer able to screen out all the background noise and distortion caused by the unusual method of sound travel. Fortunately, she could simply read the intended message from the fabric of reality. A voice spoke in Ryver’s mind. ”I saw what you did with the orb. Very clever. You wouldn’t happen to have been listening in to me and Everyone’s conversation earlier, would you?” Lyric looked back at Jack, eyes unfocused. “What did you say?” He asked loudly. “I can’t hear you over the crowd!” “Exciting!” Subversion said. “What kind of ally?”

    "Right. Do you want to be bad cop, or good cop?" Unintelligible glared at the witherabbit, still speaking too quietly for it to overhear. Oh, I'm going to meddle. Subversion brushed a lock of hair out of her face. But if you think I'm trying to stop you, you're mistaken. Why should I care if you're trying to do 'evil' things? Subversion winked conspiratorially at Ryver and gave him a knowing grin. Then, because she was curious about his reaction, she summoned her Narrationblade. The gleaming, slender Blade appeared in her hand, made entirely of Narrativium.

    “Honestly?” Unintelligible whispered. “No idea. Either imprison it or kill it, probably. But the rabbit doesn’t know what they’d do either.” Oh, I don’t know. Tried to kill a hero? Destroy an entire planet? Perhaps even… planned to aid in summoning the Witherlord?

    "You're not helpless, just compassionate." Unintelligible said frankly. "It's sweet. However, we probably are going to have to threaten the witherabbit to get it to talk. I was thinking we could threaten to turn it over to the Ennullers." Certainly it is. However, I'm fairly certain that Ryver would call your purposes evil, which is the relevant point here. If I were to tell him exactly what you've used your power for in the past... well, perhaps you wouldn't get what you want from him.

    "You don't need to apologize to the rabbit, Sequence." Unintelligible whispered. "It's an evil, withergeist-possessed monster that wants nothing more than to feast on the fabric of reality." He paused. "So um, I don't think we're going to be able to bribe it." Subversion examined her fingernails. He seems to have something of a conscience. If he knew you intended to use the power that sphere will give you for evil, he very well might refuse to make it. Subversion watched Ryver as he worked. Such an interesting little character. Perhaps she would visit his homeworld someday. It sounded like an interesting place.

    Both the rabbit and Unintelligible froze. Unintelligible leaned closer to Sequence, face concerned. "Are you okay?" He whispered. "I can interrogate the rabbit on my own, if you'd prefer." "Oh, I have no doubt he'll be very effective for my purposes." Subversion responded. "But do you think you can control him once he finds out what you'll use the device for?" Jack stopped a few feet from the empty kiosk, rocking back and forth on his feet. "Oh, I'm sure they are. So, do you think we'll want to ask for two maps, or one? You said you didn't think splitting up was a good idea, are you worried about losing each other in the crowd?" Malevolence stared at Rebus, face a mix of horror, appreciation, and incredulity. Then, abruptly, he laughed. "Your fate" he said between maniacal chuckles "is perhaps even more pitiable than my own." He doubled over, entire body shaking with the force of his mocking laughter. "You, the wielder of Antagonist, perhaps the most feared being in this Thread. Doomed to bring about the Witherlord's return. Doomed to plot your own downfall!" He slapped a hand to his head, laughter reaching a crescendo. "And the best part? As smart as you are, as obvious as the idiocy of your plans is, that Blade, and perhaps your own ego, force you to believe you will succeed!" Malevolence's laughter finally trailed off, replaced by an evil grin. He looked directly into Rebus's eyes, his own violet eyes burning with scorn and self-confidence. "Thank you, Rebus. You've proven to me, once and for all, that I can never accept Antagonist." He pressed a few buttons on his phone as he continued. "I look forward to matching my wits against you. For I know that your fall will be most spectacular." His grin widened into a smile showing too many teeth. "Until we next meet, Antagonist. Know that I shall be plotting against you." With a final button press, he ended the call. Malevolence smiled, then turned back to his screen of computer monitors. They showed a variety of images. Many were of Bacon and the vault, a few showed spy images monitoring various characters and plotlines around the Thread, with particular focus on those Rebus was involved in, but the largest central monitor showed an odd image. A cave in a forest clearing, with murky shadows within. Malevolence examined this image. All indications lead to here... He thought. But... am I ready to take this step? He considered his options carefully. Rebus would doubtless begin moving against him with more force, now that his deal had been so rudely rejected. Blinded by Antagonist he may be, but no less dangerous for it. I will need an edge to face him. Malevolence nodded. It was time. He stood, and began preparations for the coming trial. Subversion is visible.

    Unintelligible and the rabbit shared a look. Then they both looked back at Sequence "That'll never work!" Unintelligible exclaimed incredulously, at the same time as the rabbit said, in a fake-horrified voice "Oh, no! No turnips? That is much worse than the..." it shivered involuntarily. "terrible idea that that one suggested." "Humph." Subversion said. "But now he'll have no limitations! His desire for travel has been met completely, so there's no need for him to strive for improvement of it! Even if did have to make a deal with the devil at least once to accomplish it, you still shouldn't just give him everything he wants so quickly."

    "Oh, I've got another idea." Unintelligible said. "You can open up a portal to the center of a star, and we'll hang the rabbit over it until it talks." "Those men right there, at the kiosk." Lyric walked confidently through the darkness, though he did so in a strange gait, often pausing or stepping to the side, as if avoiding invisible obstacles. "I believe it's some kind of a welcome desk." -- Subversion snapped her fingers under Ivi's nose angrily. "Hey! Not only do you try to manipulate this poor sap, you've got the gall to ignore me too? I'm talking to you!" Previous post: "Tempting." Malevolence murmured. "There was a time I would have accepted this offer without regret. Antagonist holds allure even now that I see it for what it truly is; a pathway to great power, not a pathway to greater evil." His violet eyes narrowed. "I cannot accept this offer as stated. To give you the chance to return the Witherlord would be to give you the chance to destroy all of TLT, and everything I have worked for. You are a fool to think yourself capable of controlling that... power. Even I would not be up to such a task." He chuckled. "It may surprise you, but in this regard I hold no false pride. If I were to take up the power of the Witherlord, the darkness would utterly overwhelm my willpower. I would be... transformed. My careful plans... my wish to rule this Thread... even my ideals of Evil would be swept away. Gone, consumed in a Darkness too great for any mortal to truly comprehend." Malevolence paused, giving time for his words to sink in. "Of course, you will not listen. And so I must now oppose the Antagonist himself." He chuckled again. "I could, perhaps, accept the first part of your deal. If you give me access to your plans, I would be willing to continue those of them I find worthy upon your death, in exchange for Antagonist."

    Unintelligible grabbed Sequence’s arm. “Sequence, this is a terrible idea. If we go to his ‘friends’ they will eat us.” “We would not!” The rabbit said in an affronted mental voice. “Why feast on delicious souls when… delicious… turnips… are offered?” “Indeed.” Jim eyed the gnome suspiciously. “Although we would want to cooperate regardless. We need to meet with this place’s ruler.” Subversion appeared, eyes fierce with anger. “Now look here you little copycat! I already gave Ryver a way to transport himself around the Thread!” She pointed towards rhe necklace Ryver wore. “And got him to promise a vague favor in exchange too!” She folded her arms and gave Ivi a solid glare. “I don’t appreciate you devaluing my machinations with your own knock-off machinations!”

    “We came here seeking the source of the infection.” Jim mused. “Obviously this being we’re going to meet is the source, and the gnome, as their agent, has authority to at least temporarily remove the sickness.”

    "Friends, yes! We are many friends! Give us... me... the turnip, and we will tell you where we are! You will go to us, and we will feast!" Unintelligible interjected here. "I think the rabbits have some sort of hive mind. This rabbit should be cut off, only able to communicate across short distances, so the rest will have no way of staging a rescue." "Why not? Do you think we should ask for directions?" Lyric pointed towards a nearby abandoned kiosk. "A fine idea. Those gentlemen over there look like they are handing out maps." He started walking towards the kiosk, deeper into the darkness of the mall. Malevolence's eyebrows shot up. "Antagonist? How... unexpected." He considered, taking his time before continuing. "I suppose I will hear you out. What are these conditions?"

    "Their names are Jack (@Dragonheir) and Lyric. Right now they're in an abandoned mall inhabited by a Sage that provides enlightenment by dominating the minds of his followers." Subversion summoned an image in the air of Lyric and Jack, standing just inside the entrance of an abandoned, creepy-looking mall. "You might want to wait until they get out of there to approach, unless you want to fight Ortithox for them."

    "I... see..." Subversion frowned at Blank Page. "I... well, I'm sorry, but I don't really want to be awakened. Sounds a bit like mind control might be involved. However, I do happen to know two people on a quest for meaning that very well could be interested! I can tell you where they are if you want."

    "Inherent truth in all? So you're a philosophical group?"" Subversion considered. "Is that observation part of the awakening process, or a separate thing?"

    "I heard it." Unintelligible said grimly. "It's been threatening me since I captured it." "Turnip?" The Witherabbit's ears perked up. "We have no leader! We are free! Free to eat your turnips. Free to eat all things!" "That sounds interesting... oh, hang on. My omniscience is back up and running now that my Author's fiancé isn't playing Hollow Knight on his laptop." Subversion's eyes went distant. "Oh, interesting. Church of the Blind Eye... Possibility... unique... world? Ugh." her eyes refocused. "My Author won't let me see everything. Thinks it will make the story worse." She glared at the sky for a moment, then turned back to the Blank Page. "I have to say that from what I can see, becoming awakened would not be that useful. I'm already near enough to omnipotence without it. Perhaps you could explain better the benefits of an awakening?"

    “Interesting!” Subversion leaned closer to Blank Page and examined him. “Do you know what qualities make Possibility god like? And what are… it’s? Their? Goals?”

    Subversion got a distant look on her face as well. That look vanished as she grimaced. “Ugh. I’m afraid you’ll have to tell me who that is. My potential omniscience is being rather slow.”

    Not a flicker of surprise crossed Subversion’s face. “Well, I’m afraid these things tend to drag on. Authors get too busy, you see. For my next question, are you perhaps a conduit for some greater power?”

    "Star Stream? No, it wasn't resolved. Rebus still seeks to summon the Witherlord." Moni gave Sequence a thumbs up, causing Unintelligible to frown in her direction. "...Yeah, it speaks. Um, what was that look you gave Moni abo-" He was cut off as a voice forced its way into Sequence's mind. "We will eat you, Dark-tinged-Light. We will feast on your fading Light, and it will be Darkness." The caged Witherabbit accompanied these words with an attempt at a chillingly low growl that was still a little cute, despite its best efforts. "Hm? Oh, yeah, it looks red." Lyric seemed distracted as he swept his gaze around the mall's interior. "So you think we should split up to find the Sage faster?" Malevolence accepted the call. "Hello Rebus. I trust you're calling to beg for my help in some half-hearted evil plan?" He smiled. "I'm afraid I'm unavailable."

    "Excellent." Subversion said. "Well, have fun with the necklace, I'll reach out to you about that favor some time or other." "Ah! Rebus and Antagonist." Subversion shrugged. "I don't think Rebus wants to end the Thread. He believes that existing is the most important thing, so he wants the Thread to keep going so he can continue to do so. Now, if the Witherlord gets involved, TLT might be destroyed whether he wants it or not."
