Nameless sighed, but handed over the Oath Rod. "It's not being a channeler that makes the Oath Rod cut your life in half, it's the way the oaths work. If you still want to try, fine. But you don't need to. Rue trusts you, mostly."

"Great. Thanks." Why are you feeling panicked? Nameless still didn't hand over the Oath Rod. "Fine. Just let me explain the consequences of swearing an oath on this thing, alright? The ones that come under normal circumstances, mind you, not the ones that might happen. Then I'll let you have it." Nameless coughed, waving the Oath Rod. "I have it. And no, you can't have it." "TAAron, using the Oath Rod halves a channeler's lifespan. At least halves it, probably a bit more. What I just did probably took a good three centuries off my life. Just... be aware of that. Even if all goes well, you'll still have your life cut very short."

Nameless shook his head. "TAAron, I don't think it is a good idea for you to try and use the Oath Rod. You might break it, or worse, you might actually be able to use it, only to discover terrible side effects. It might just kill you." "Glad to hear it. May I ask you a question?"

Nameless looked at her. "Fine. Yes, I'm insane. I'm suffering from stage 1 Brandonfandonitis and have an irrational fear of chickens. And before you ask, I have no plans to kill or hurt you or anyone else, unless you count my plan to hurt your feelings by failing to be an evil madman one step away from killing everyone around him."

Nameless shivered, feeling the pressure of the oaths wrap around him. "I'm about as insane as you are."

Nameless nodded. "Something like that. I said I'd swear not to kill anyone unless they were trying to kill me." Yes, reasons like the White Tower not letting us use the Oath Rod. Nameless smiled wryly, doing his best to keep his thoughts to himself. "Still don't trust me? Well, now I know what oaths I will swear." Closing his eyes, Nameless channeled spirit into the Oath Rod, then took a deep breath and spoke. "I will defend my friends to the death. I will never kill anyone unless they are trying to kill me," He opened his eyes and looked directly at Rue. "And I will never lie to Rue Sedai of the red Ajah."

"Rue already fears me! And I'm not going to put any kind of suicide clause on this."

"Look, I'm not going to go insane. And even if I did, you'd spot it long before I snapped."

Nameless rolled his eyes. "I'm not the Dark One, I can't destroy the universe."

"Thank you." Nameless took the rod carefully. "Rue, how do you think I should word this?"

"Then I definitely wouldn't recommend swearing on the Oath Rod, even if it does work. It was made for channelers."

Nameless stepped through a gateway into the clinic. "Sorry TAAron, but I don't think it will work. You have to channel into the Oath Rod in order to swear on it. Also, are you immortal?"

Nameless looked up at it from the spot he'd gatewayed to in the city, ready to catch someone if they missed Rue's gateway.

Nameless fell towards a distant field, moving laterally away from the Tower as he fell. Just before he hit the ground, there was a flash of light, barely visible from so far up, and Nameless vanished.

Nameless glanced at the approaching Aes Sedai. "Well, I'd better jump if I don't want to get shielded. If I die, take care of Rue. She'll be unstable." Nameless backed up and took a running jump out of the Tower.

Both in front and behind them, two full circles of thirteen Aes Sedai approached. Nameless glanced at them, then blew a hole in the wall. "This is my plan. Jump. I'll make a gateway as soon as we're out of the field that blocks them."

"Great! In that case, it's time to go." Nameless came to a sudden stop in the hallway they were moving through, then started running his hands over the wall.

Nameless glanced down the hallway, where Argenti was confronting the brown sisters. "It's there."

The Aes Sedai collapsed to the ground, holding their heads, but the Warders remained on their feet, walking slowly towards TAAron, careful not to slip on the floor. Nameless realized that the shield between him and the source was gone and acted quickly, forming tied-off shields for all thirteen Aes Sedai and weaving earth to seal the room off from everyone else. "That won't hold them for long, let's go!" He grabbed TAAron and Rue and ran out of the room. The brown sister gasped, stumbling backwards. All five of the brown sisters seem totally shocked by Argenti's words, even more than her attack on one of them. "We study all sorts of different powers all the time. It's not evil." One of them walked up to the injured sister, healing her wound.

The Green curses. "They'll never get away. The tower's locked down, and the exits are guarded. It's only a matter of time before you get caught." She grabs Nameless in weaves of air before he can run Some of the guards attempt to chase Argenti, but they slip and fall to the ground. Rue, you should get out of here. leave me. A group of five brown sisters stepped out of a side hallway in front of Pic. One of them turns to the others, shaking her head. "See? I told you they'd get out of there somehow. These thieves are very strange. I hope we have the opportunity to study their abilities after we capture them. They don't seem at all related to the One Power."

Most of the Aes Sedai collapsed to the ground, although the green that was leading them managed to stay upright. She reacts quickly, forming a weave of spirit and slicing away the connection that TAAron was using to attack. The warders reacted similarly, moving in and slashing at TAAron with their swords. The Aes Sedai forms a spear of air and stabs it towards Argenti, at the same time weaving earth to still the floor. "This is your last warning! Surrender now or I will take drastic measures!" The blue frowned. "Wait, do I... know you?"

The Aes Sedai sniffed dismissively. "Trying to kill us all won't work, no matter how strong you think you are. If you surrender, we won't kill you. You'll have a fair trial. Trust me, that's a better option than dying here." The green looked at him sharply, weaving a gag of air to stop his humming.
