@ftl, I like what you said there. As for racism, it's a word with a long history, starting with colonialism. Colonialism was much more than a war of conquest. I'm disinclined to go into a subject that deep and complex for this, but do know that real-life scholars would define racism within this real-world historical context. Let's move back to Kaladin. He has issues with trusting Lighteyes. He doesn't think he is inherently better than Shallan or Adolin. We have direct extracts proving that the reverse is not true. Kaladin accepts Colot after Skar talks to him, he also accepts the tenners under Azure immediately. He's overcoming his distrust not any sense of moral superiority.

Her spren, Wyndle, a Cultivationspren, is described as a mass of growing vines speckled with quartz, they move by growing, and the vines they leave behind desiccate, crystallize and crumble. These are probably the black sandy grains that the Tashikki officer finds. I think her spren is either more in the Physical naturally, like Cryptics are supposed to be compared to Honorspren or that whatever draws her partially into the Cognitive also draws her spren a slight bit more into the Physical, an interaction between her Boon and her Bond.

Adolin's a bit contentious and there've been multiple threads on his character, plus the biggest direct quote from Adolin, against Adolin is in the links. Toaster, interesting view on that, but the power structure between Lighteyes and Darkeyes is skewed enough that I'll be very, very conflicted about calling Kaladin racist. The Parshendi thing though! It was only upon re-reading OB that I realized that how unreasonable Dalinar was being, over being annoyed with Venli (in the chapter where he brings her to one of his Visions)

But after the escape from Kholinar he might actually choose to try to listen and understand, like Kaladin did with his Bridge 4. I'm still miffed at Dalinar for calling equality a problem for another day No comments on Shallan. Regarding the system of Dahn & Nahn, according to the Coppermind: 1st The King 2nd Highprinces, their direct heirs, and the King's direct heir. 3rd Generals, Highlords, and the non-inheriting children of 1st and 2nd dahn lighteyes. 4th Battalionlords, Citylords, Shardbearers, and other mid-ranked nobles. 5th Companylords, along with lower-ranked nobles. 6th Captainlords, along with the lowest-ranked nobles and landholders. 7th Lower-ranking landless officers, higher-ranking (or very wealthy) landless lighteyes. 8th Soldiers, high-ranking (or moderately wealthy) landless lighteyes. 9th Landless lighteyes with some wealth, like merchants and master craftsmen. 10th "Tenners", essentially any lighteyes who has to work for a living. Oh I understand the issues. Plus, the trope also solves a few writing issues like how to give your character enough manpower to face his enemies and why your character would have certain skills. I just want more divergent viewpoints which I think we might get in Stormlight itself if Venli doesn't outright join the Urithiru coalition and Kaladin doesn't put off fighting for equality for another day.

So who is/was Austre? He is associated with the first Returned, Vo. He is a 'he', while Edgli, Endowment's Vessel is a 'she' Was he a different Returned who was conflated with Vo? We see Vasher's diverse set of names and how history can forget things. Is he a Splinter of Endowment? An Avatar of Edgli? This WoB confirms it's not just Endowment in a fake moustache: Other people have speculated on Austre being an Avatar of Autonomy based on the religion's values and Autonomy's interference comment by Khriss Does Austre actually have anything to do with Returning? I don't think so based off of Lightsong's memories. Was Vo's Returning different somehow with the Five Visions or is that history tying itself in knots over time?

Okay, since you have finished it now, in case you missed some of it or have more questions The previous God King used his Divine Breath, not Peacegiver's Treasure of 50,000 Breaths which is what makes him and his predecessors & successors of God Kings distinct from the other Returned in the Court of Gods. Breath can be given in a manner that is not all-or-nothing, as Vasher demonstrates. Divine Breaths can be used in other ways than what the people are aware of.

He seems a bit simplistic at times from a modern perspective but that's because of the trauma he's had to face and a somewhat lacking education in spheres other than his intended specialization, due to modern Vorin traditions against men reading and him lacking the same resources being a Darkeyes. So he isn't going to be as sharp as some other characters like Shallan or Adolin. He's very smart and introspective actually, and his applicable skills & intelligence, from medicine to tactics were stated to be exceptional by in-book characters.

It could be simple intimacy formed between people who only had each other for years of pain, but looking at Ash's narration it seems likely that they were romantically attached or at least she felt something for him
