  1. Ah, I forgot about that one and I thought you meant like a driving fabrial component like the cages rather than... what was the word for the opposite of conductor? Err, a fabrial directly making use of aluminium's properties to make Investiture inert stuff rather than just taking advantage of aluminium not being an Investiture conducting material. I was trying to remember if those half-Shard shield thingys from Jah Keved used aluminium (because of that aluminium could block the magical cutting of the Shardblades WoB) or the new anti-Radiancy fabrial & spears that the Fused are carrying, though I'm pretty sure aluminium isn't widely known on Roshar, only mentioned by Taravangian & Hoid. I didn't get anything regarding how Navani's flying the bridge at all and haven't visited any threads discussing it, my eyes just glazed over those. Axial? Aren't Cohesion & Tension called the Surges of soft and something axial interconnection?
  2. I had the same thoughts regarding the Iriali originally hailing from Yolen and one of the previous lands in the Long Trail (possibly the most recent one, given said world's proximity) being Nalthis, based on the similarity with the colourful hair and Evi's colour idioms.
  3. I don't recall any instances of aluminium being used in fabrials
  4. @StanLemon, Because of the elemental metal + alloy pairing? They might not be looking at it that way and instead seeing it as a continuum: pewter, tin, bronze. We already skipped copper: zinc & bronze were mentioned together in ch 7 epigraph, then bronze in 8, pewter in 9 and tin in 10. Could be that the fabrial was made using Nicrosil or aluminum or Duralumin too.
  5. I was thinking copper's the one Navani & her team might discover after reverse-engineering/trying to counter the anti-Radiancy fabrial that the teleporting Fused used against Kal
  6. We don't know the precise mechanics of how Feruchemy works but Cosmere healing generally works by imposing the status of your Platonic idealized self over your Physical body, Stormlight healing, Regrowth, gold Feruchemy all seem to work via this same method.
  7. 1) this place had a hand in starting a coup d'état 2) This place bears some resemblance to another place in the Cosmere which also had a coup 3) this place is situated in the south of its parent nation 4) this place is connected to magic
  8. Welcome to the Shard! You can easily get the prose version of White Sand by subscribing to Brandon's newsletter, it will be sent as a link to download in the first e-mail you get from his site. You can also get Aether of Night here
  9. Welcome to the Shard! My favourites are Kaladin, Kelsier, Shai, most of the Stormlight Interlude characters, Vin & Elend, Ham
  10. @Vailima, that was a wonderful read. Could you link these closed discussions for convenience, so people can see what this has been written in response to?
  11. Happy Birthday, trav

  12. The Parshendi host is dead and the body itself transforms to develop characteristics of the Fused's body. If enough of their soul is torn using Hemalurgy they probably would go (even more) insane, among other possible additional side effects. Going by the WoBs regarding Hemalurgy almost anything can be stolen by Hemalurgy, I imagine including the various abilities of the Fused like their version of the Surges, resurrection, maybe even the capacity to listen to the Rhythms or have a Gemheart
  13. 3) this place is situated in the south of its parent nation
  14. Welcome to the Shard! Why leave White Sand unread? Just subscribe to Brandon's newsletter on his site and the e-mail would contain the prose version.
  15. So zinc and brass riot and soothe the spren, so to speak (ch 7) pewter and tin push and pull on nearby attributes (ch 9 & 10 resp) bronze is used for alerter fabrials (ch 8) Did we skip copper? Or are copper fabrials unknown at this point on Roshar?
  16. We've only seen a few of the core characters who already weren't as discriminatory, let's wait and see how the rest of the world reacts
  17. I never said anything about Lirin, nor was there anything regarding him in the chapter- did you confuse Lirin with Laran? I meant Lighteyes-Darkeyes, but yes, human-Parshendi as well Doesn't stop it from being any less ironic
  18. 1) Ah, so that's why Kaladin wasn't fighting in Syl's interlude. He does exhibit symptoms of PTSD but at the same time it's also cruel to take him away from what's become his everything 2) Dalinar is taking to command well, before this we'd only seen the Blackthorn and the Dalinar plagued by Visions. But he's side-stepping a lot of issues rather than addressing them, I understand but I can't help but think this might come back to bite him. Also I do hope that the racism on Roshar isn't dealt with by a higher power or greater threat but actual human effort 3) yup, Honor turned away from the Parshendi first glad to see this addressed 4) "the God Beyond", you say? 5) also the way reading Dalinar interacts with Kaladin rankles me makes me even more sure that I do not like the military. 6) I'm still more attached to Kaladin than any other Stormlight character. Please stop torturing Kaladin, Brando 7) 10 days irony with Kaladin 8) deflecting the Everstorm's lightning with lightning rods! Of course! Lightning is the biggest physical problem posed directly by the storm itself unlike the Highstorm which is basically a hurricane 9) the epigraph, tin suppressing attributes... huh, makes sense as an internal pulling metal, I suppose, also kind of similar to its Feruchemical use, though presumably fabrials don't store the attributes, just- wait did Navani use the same fabrial against her, Fen & Kmakl's captors ? Edit: it wasn't. Augmenter and Diminisher fabrials are quite separate, huh
  19. Huh, Willshaper and Lightweaver I get, but Windrunner... then again what I believe regarding what the majority of the people in the world are like is probably just my own perspective. I'm assuming all three of these Orders had a lot of members.
  20. 2) This place bears some resemblance to another place in the Cosmere which also had a coup
  21. I have similar thoughts regarding the first theory. Truthwatchers see something, and both Illumination & Progression have a very visible Spiritual component to them dealing with Connection & sDNA, it makes sense for clairvoyance and/or postcognition to arise from them.
  22. In retrospect, I have no idea why I thought a topic like this hadn't been created already... I enjoyed the other characters but the one I ended up rooting for was Vivenna. She's the one we really got to know and watch as she developed into her own person.
  23. Nope! Reading Warbreaker before Words of Radiance is ideal but you can still read it right after. You'll get some context for the ending, in particular.
  24. I suspect Phendorana might be one of the original 10
