Gonna nip this snippiness in the bud before it grows further, let's all remember the Code of Conduct and Etiquette Guide. Edit: To be clear, I'm not closing the thread, just interrupting that chain of comments. Ship flamewarring gets... intense... and I wanted to cut it off early.

[Theory] Radiant is Chana's Self Aware Honorblade
LewsTherinTelescope replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Only subtly, no? Why don't they go all the way to normal Shardblade length, then? (Also, Moash does try to summon it quicker than ten heartbeats and can't, so I don't think that's just perception.) The Stormfather implies the Heralds killed them when they broke their oaths, so losing some capabilities like that seems likely. Beyond that, the art does have some inaccuracies like Shalash's hair being white rather than black, Kalak not being a short guy with wispy hair, or Pailiah being surrounded by logicspren despite WoB attributing those to the Elsecallers. Chana and Kalak's Honorblades are also shown as being bronze-ish, which is either another mistake (to do with the swords this time!) or proof that at least none of the silvery Blades which Shallan summons are it (in which case why take it?). Edit: As far as I understand it the theory is that she has no idea, right? So using an advanced technique doesn't seem super likely, imo. -
[Theory] Radiant is Chana's Self Aware Honorblade
LewsTherinTelescope replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Oh sure, I don't think it's a knife. But an Honorblade is anything but small. Dude married a Herald, him knowing about Radiant Shardblades doesn't seem too surprising imo (especially if Dreder really was a Skybreaker acolyte, though Mraize could be lying). Besides, we don't see his immediate reaction anyway, the flashback picks up after the sword is already in the safe. How does her bonding an Honorblade solve this? And again, the flashback picks up after the sword is already in the safe. And if it were built specifically to hold a Blade, why wouldn't it be aluminum? Jezrien's is still five feet long, Shardblades are just usually around six. I assume Shallan's would be smaller since a sword twice as tall as you are is... unwieldy, but maybe eleven year old her is just a really competent swordswoman, who knows. -
[Theory] Radiant is Chana's Self Aware Honorblade
LewsTherinTelescope replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Would it fit? I mean I guess it could be stabbed way into the wall rather than only the tip like she claims, but I'm not sure why she'd misremember it as "small" instead of just assuming that her own Blade looked like it did, especially if you're suggesting she was mundanely wrong about it due to Pattern's words rather than repressing the truth. -
I don't think that's separate minds, the conversation continues without a break. If you look at how he speaks to Eshonai, Syl, and even Kaladin (outside the time he was killing his daughter) he's also much more apologetic and encouraging, honestly it seems like he just is really peeved by Dalinar in particular. The connection in tone to the voice Kaladin is hearing is pretty interesting though Syl was created by the Stormfather, he took over that duty before Tanavast fully died.
-
I don't particularly love the ship, but I do think the previews point heavily that direction personally. Syl resting her head on his shoulder while saying "I want things to change and be the same all at once. Suffice it to say that I want to make it harder for certain people to ignore me." when asked if she wants his treatment of her to change, Syl dressing like his ex, Kaladin turning to the camera and saying "Syl is not child-coded"... Lots of signs that either Syladin is happening or Syl is dying, in my opinion. So I guess I've resigned myself to a "wait and see" approach, not really hyped but willing to let the book make its case.

Could the wind be valor?
LewsTherinTelescope replied to Acolyte of Radiance's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I do think Valor was involved with Taravangian's moment of bravery, but I don't feel there's enough to connect her to this voice at the moment. Not sure anything directly rules it out either though, so we'll have to see! -
I feel people aren't paying enough attention to the part after the Wind stuff: Kaladin always dreamed of glory, and Shallan had the darkness in her family Testament helped her fight against, neither of them fits. If it's any protagonist I think it's Szeth, this feels super reminiscent of his first flashback, but I don't know if Brandon wants to do that three books in a row.

Thoughts on Re-Released Prologue
LewsTherinTelescope replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Why would he be upset at Gavilar mistreating the Honorblades, respect the Radiants who trapped Mishram, or abandon him because of his plan to give in and cause infinite war (not that Gavilar was actually going to be a Herald, but Stormfather seems to treat that mentality as the breaking point)? -
Thoughts on Re-Released Prologue
LewsTherinTelescope replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
She might have known about the Stormfather, Gavilar has explained it to someone before: Makes me think of the Stormfather's wording when speaking to Dalinar: -
Gavilar has seen the vision where Honor announces his death and commands the recipient to unite the world. WoR I-14: Most likely he did try those words and they got rejected because he didn't mean them—"It’s not about what you are saying."—so he went down a rabbit hole trying to guess other things. (There seems to be a bit of a continuity error since he doesn't actually tell Taravangian some of these things in the prologue.)

Thoughts on Re-Released Prologue
LewsTherinTelescope replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I wouldn't be surprised if deciding to never use their powers to uphold their Ideal counts as breaking their oaths in and of itself anyway. -
He hits him with the "these words are not accepted", warns him repeatedly to stop trying to guess, and says "It's not about what you're saying" when he gets frustrated (and that's all just this one night!). He doesn't directly explain it, but he keeps firmly trying to push him back on the right track to find the answer himself, Gavilar is just too cocky to listen. He isn't lying, the visions really are about finding a champion. But Stormfather is clearly still trying to understand Gavilar and hasn't decided whether to stick with him or not, as seen by the ending, so telling him "oh yeah I want to give you god powers" is a bit premature. And it's not like he told Dalinar that he was searching for a Radiant either, but Dalinar took the book's lessons to heart and progressed to a point where he knew the Words innately. Gavilar could have done this himself but was too focused on power to work it out, which is why the Stormfather then says next time he'll do it differently.

He isn't trying to make Gavilar a Herald, though. That's something Gavilar made up and convinced himself of despite being told point blank "that's not what's going on here". Agreed. As the Stormfather tells him, "It’s not about what you are saying." It's about what he means.

Thoughts on Re-Released Prologue
LewsTherinTelescope replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
IMO it's just that the sentence didn't make any logical sense at that point in the conversation. Looking at the Blade and bringing up her nature as a soldier flows naturally, but why is he asking about her hair color? -
Thoughts on Re-Released Prologue
LewsTherinTelescope replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's fair. Honestly, there are a lot of similar open questions around the Set. For one, how did they bring the Investiture for the perpendicularity to the Physical Realm without, you know, a perpendicularity to bring it through? Where is trellium coming from? How did Autonomy reach them to begin with? Right now the best I've got is "clearly someone in the Set is doing offworld stuff in a way the rest of the group can't", so perhaps Axindweth is involved there. -
Thoughts on Re-Released Prologue
LewsTherinTelescope replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I doubt anyone outside the Rosharan system with an ounce of sanity is sending agents to help Odium, so that limits our options to people without. My best guess right now is the Set, because Autonomy not only has worked with (or perhaps worked for) him in the past but has expressed approval in the present ("Rayse is contained, and we care not for his prison. Indeed, we admire his initiative."), and Axindweth seems to be a Feruchemist. -
Generally when he's talking mentally it's italics with the occasional small caps when he feels like being extra dramatic, which fits with the prologue. When he's talking "out loud" he uses small caps all the time, but we don't see anywhere that would be relevant in the prologue to tell if this Stormfather would do the same or not.
