  1. I might have to crunch some numbers and build a skematic now. That's why I was thinking of putting the ruby on the back of the bullet, which would replace the lost stormlight each time the gun is fired and make the gun fully automatic.
  2. Leshwi said that her soul had been Odium's for so long she couldn't bond a spren.
  3. What Quantus said, this is specifically using fabrial technology as known by RoW to make firearms.
  4. Yeah probably. So the duralumin heating model is off the table without adding water or something?
  5. Gunpowder doesn't actually explode, at least when used in bullets. I gave some thought to that but I feel like that would be less effective, esspecially if duralumin is required, as you would have to change gems between each firing.
  6. Recently I have spent an increasing amount of time thinging about Rosharan magics, and one of the things I come back to quite frequently is the Fabrials. Well, this time I had the thought to try making guns with fabrials. Guns(In their most basic form) fire bullets by heating the air behind the bullet, increasing the pressure, and forcing the bullet out. Now this becomes more complicated as things like bullet casings ibecome standard, but in essence this is what we are going for. A way to create a lot of heat, at a controlled point. Fortunatly fabrails have us covered. Heating fabrials are really basic, requiring only: a flamespren, a ruby, stormlight, and the metal to form the cage. Now the most obvious metals to use would be pewter and zinc, intending to make as much heat as possible. However Duralumin could also be used, assuming it causes the fabrial to use up all of its stormlight in a massive burst of expression strength. So we build a long barrle and connect it to a trigger, which moves pewter and zinc levers forward and touches it to a flamespren in a ruby heating the air, and forcing the bullet to fire, using duralumin if that doesn't provide enough heat. And with this we have an increadibly primitive gun. However this has a serious drawback, if duralumin is required then you have to open the gun up and replace the ruby each time you fire. But their is a simple solution. Flamespren are really easy to aquire, and gemheart farming will make rubies much easier to aquire. So if duralumin is required, or even if it isn't but the extra kick is desired. A simple casing of rubies containing flamespren can be made and attatched to each bullet. Which would have an intresting side effect of making it easier for Roshar to make fully-automatic firearms than semi-automatic. Anyway what do you think? Any gun nerds out there going to come and tell me that all of this is wrong, or potentially other ways to improve the design? I welcome all suggestions.
  7. So I recently finished my reread of era 1 and I love TenSoon now. As I was reading Well of Ascension I picked up on all the little hits that OreSeur had been replaced, and then I got to this line on page 305 And I could hear the doubt in TenSoon's mind as he tried to justify the pain Vin is going through in his mind, tries to justify killing OreSeur, tries to convince himself that he has no choice. It's beautiful and I love it. Anyway I just had to put that out there.
  8. Meaning it cannot be purely stasis, and is closer to regulating change, rather than entirely against it. Forming a Connection doesn't change Spiritual DNA. It isn't just working you into the magic system it adds something to your soul that you can pass on to your children. Ah, but Roshar focus's more on lights than metals, and Voidlights emotional effects are very closely tied to Odium.
  9. While theoretically possible it won't happen. Book 5 is the end of the first arc Brandon isn't going to end it on a cliffhanger.
  10. The contest continues until one of them dies.
  11. I'd say that's impossible since there is no form of perfect immortaility in the cosmere.
  12. That only comes into play at the end of the contest, and in order for the contest to end one of the champions has to die.
  13. That's God Beyond type stuff. The Dawnshard was in the mural which Rysn was touching. So unless the Dawnshard happened to be in that specific copy of The Way of Kings, despite never being in Nohadon's hands, and can travel via soundwaves that's not the case. I'm of the opinion that's Hoid. That's probably closer to the screams Dalinar, Szeth and Dilaf hear than a Dawnshard.
  14. That's not true.
  15. Well Vessels can have children so I think that the birth would proceed, however it does when a shard has a child.
  16. The comment was about the power itself, so it's something that Preservation itself wants. Lerasium doesn't just form a Connetion it rewrites your spiritual DNA. It changes who you are on the most basic level. Preservation at it's core is resistance to change, however it also acknowledges that change must happen, things must be created for it to preserve.
  17. He programed the power of Preservation, to seek change, something that is anti-thetical to its nature? No Preservation itself allows change. Lerasium litterally overwrites the spiritweb of the individual who injests it.
  18. He would have to kill Odium's champion to win. Not to complete the terms. Or do you think that the instant the contest begins the agreement is invalidated because neither champion is dead?
  19. The terms do not require Dalinar to kill Odium's champion, only to participate.
  20. Unconfirmed. He can try all he wants, but Taravangian doesn't control the agreement. Dalinar is under no obligation to kill Odium's champion, just to participate.
  21. *Honorspren They did bond before the offical orders were founded, but they didn't bond at all before the Desolations started.
  22. Shallan is not confirmed to be a worldhopper. How does Dalinar not killing Adolin break the terms of the contest?
  23. Rayse was fighting, but he wasn't really able to restrain Odium, a big part of the reason he made the deal with Dalinar is that the power hated being contained, and eventually Rayse relented.
