  1. Just because Adolin isn’t a walking billboard for the DSM-V doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have flaws and experienced great mental stress- and that is the more important thing for the realmatic process of creating cracks in the soul than just mental illness. Vin Snapped as an infant, plenty of people were taken by the mists and even the nobles who were beaten into Snapping don’t all have highly visible disorders and neuroses. Brandon has been moving away from the whole “mental illness=broken” in WoBs for a while, I suspect it would have to do with the fact that describing autistic people like Renarin as broken might be terribly offensive. I’ve known plenty of people on the higher functioning side of the spectrum who don’t see their autism as a bad thing, so much as just a different thing.
  2. He is called the Herald of Luck, that may just be a byword for Fortune. That or the fact that he’s been alive and fighting for seven thousand years, and has likely seen every trick in the book enough times that he’s just 5 moves ahead of mortal fighters.
  3. Now Windrunners and Edgedancers go together like peaches and cream. Which is an awesome thing given how fast you could fly with gravitation if friction was removed.
  4. Actually, according to the Stormfather not only is he the oldest Bondsmith in the Rosharan system, he's also the oldest human surgebinder.
  5. I dunno, a shard whose investiture is called Warlight doesn’t sound very pleasant. Honor and Odium look like they’d give you Vengeance or Judgement or something. A really big, really ticked off highspren at best. Odium and Cultivation outright terrifies me because the combination of passionate rage and the desire to shape and control the lives of mortals and the path of civilization seems like a recipe for a god of eugenics.
  6. That is dependent on whether or not he knew where Ba-Ado-Mishram's gemstone prison was located. Which is a distinct possibility given all else he knew about realmatics and the secrets of Roshar, but it's not guaranteed. You'd probably get a Desolation on your hands either way given the False Desolation was caused by Mishram.
  7. I mean we know he wouldn't like Honor: AllomancerSam If given the opportunity, which Shard would Kelsier want to punch next? Brandon Sanderson He would find it really fun to punch Honor. Really fun. Orem signing (Dec. 21, 2017) And clearly his organization is collaborating with the Fused now, I'm not feeling the same pushback as some of you that Kelsier couldn't possibly have assisted in helping Odium's side.
  8. Except Lift can eat food on other worlds for power. Gary Singer (paraphrased) Could Lift convert food from other cosmere worlds into Stormlight? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes. Lift's Spiritweb has something changed about it to allow converting mass to Investiture directly. Out of Excuses 2016 (Sept. 23, 2016) Personally I think its more that Progression is the Truest Surge of Cultivation (Or at least the closest to her given that apparently all but Adhesion are mixes) and that its more resistant to suppression. Lift being close to Culti probably helps a great deal in the same way that being close to Honor apparently helped Kal.
  9. Oof. Well, that didn't age well.
  10. Remember too that Ruin was able to alter the copperminds of feruchemists.
  11. The Arnist method and that illustration of the Flamespren struggling to escape is very uncomfortable.
  12. Sigh I'm going to be a bit blunt here because I've seen this string of thought in a lot of different places, but have you people never looked at David's Michelangelo? Venus de Milo? Durer's Adam and Eve? Rembrandt's Bathsheba? Showing nudity in art is nothing new, sometimes even when it's directly paid for and owned by conservative church or state entities. There's periodic moral panics but by and large people throughout history in even extremely sexual repressed and restrictive cultures have accepted that art plays by its own rules. I know Sanderson would never go for it but if Roshar was real and you showed me a painting from there where the heralds were outright naked I wouldn't blink an eye. This is all assuming this art is even Vorin or from a recent time period.
  13. Just because Pailiah appears to be elderly doesn't mean she really is, she could be pulling a Hoid or utilizing a surge fabrial to regain her power of Illumination.
  14. Two problems. First is that Edgedancer and Truthwatcher spren are weird from what we've seen in Shadesmar and in the PR- the other spren seem to broadly conform or link to their respective soulcasting elements and gems, but Cultivationspren (who should be primarily of crystal) are made of vines while Truthwatcher spren are said by Jasnah to be appearing in the Physical like light from a reflection. Second- Lift frequently draws lifespren in Edgedancer.
  15. I dunno, how do you think a master Awakener with the ability to animate constructs could propel a ship? When a sock is a deadly weapon and pants are power armor I wouldn’t worry about transportation. As for the perpendicularity? Same way he’d find anything else, he’d go looking for it until he found it.
  16. ... Slytherin is coded WASPy as heck. Snape I'll definitely give you, but Lucius Malfoy?
  17. Depending on how soon after the Recreance he came, Vasher wouldn't have necessarily had to seen any truespren, let alone whole cities of them, unless he specifically went to the highspren. However long the window was before the spren started appreciably regaining numbers from a near complete genocide would allow for him not to even know they existed.
  18. I don't know to what degree knowledge can be gained from the Heralds who join the Radiants at Urithiru or at least ally with them at some point, but I'd say that the humans need to give them the honor and respect that I don't see in a lot of mindsets- they aren't lab rats or archives or pawns- they're the greatest heroes on the planet. Even the ones like Ishar and Nale. They fought and were tortured willingly for thousands of years to protect humanity and every drop of blood in a Rosharan's veins only flows because oceans have been spilt of the Heralds'. Every thought and deed, every nation and culture, every language and people exists on the backs of the Heralds' suffering. Every song may be sung only because of the Heralds' screams, every lover only knows their partner's body because every inch of the Heralds' has been violated, every child may play only because the Heralds' burdens never ended for thousands of years. They're heroes and their brokenness and frailty doesn't lessen their deeds, it only exemplifies a debt owed to them that can never truly be repaid.
  19. Matthew Grady Does a metal need to be swallowed to be burned? Or can it be injected or snorted? Brandon Sanderson It could be either of those two things. Yes. Basically, metal into the body in any way is going to work, generally. There's nothing magical about the stomach, even though it works the best when we talk about it. It's just more intermixing the nature of the metal with your soul in the cosmere, your Spiritual entity, is what gives them that ability. YouTube Livestream 10 (June 18, 2020)
  20. Y’all are missing Calderis’ point, so much so that his reply to someone else answers this again perfectly: We know all the rules for Greek and Hebrew, suffixes and prefixes and stems. We don’t know Yolish ones. We can’t say that Tana- means sky and -Vast means warrior because we don’t know if those are the roots or if it’s Tanava- and -st or Ta- -na- -Vast or if there’s even root words that mean distinct things at all. There’s no information on what proto Yolish word Rayse could be descended from if it even is or if Leras and Aona are from the same language. We don’t even know what languages Brandon has drawn from to have on Yolen, if it isn’t just general fantasy names picked because they sound cool.
  21. Malen and Femalen bodies should be a lot harder to distinguish than male and female, yeah. I'd guess both look kind of androgynous, even after being used to Singer genders and sexes.
  22. They already get killed by shardblades, it's just another form of spiritual damage. Brandon has talked about healing shardblade wounds as regrowing sections of the spiritweb that have been sliced off. Most likely it does enough damage that it forces them out of the body and they go back to the Everstorm to get reborn after replacing that part of their soul with more investiture.
  23. Gold's pretty damnation good.
  24. Keep in mind that Brandon’s analogy wasn’t ripping out a USB port from a computer- it was tearing out a headjack brain implant from someone’s head. Far more visceral and violent.
  25. I mean straight up that’s just not what Division is capable of: Though (Dragonsteel)
