Disabilities in Sanderson Books
Rorzikel replied to I Just Shard Myself!'s topic in General Brandon Discussion
If Brandon ever gets around to writing the Silence Divine, we could get this. On Ashyn humans are given powers by being infected with diseases and one of the powers which allows for the flying cities causes deafness as a result. -
Are the ecologies of the Cosmere artificial?
Rorzikel replied to Oltux72's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There's not enough evidence for some kind of mass migration from Yolen, the closest that we could stretch is the Iriali's stories. And there being very few humans or persons at all has a far more sobering answer than "they all just got up and left" and that is that they all died. -
Endowment or Mercy seem like they'd lend themselves best to a kinder god for mortals. Given that all intents inevitably shift their vessel into alignment, in ten thousand years I'd like to be someone I still consider to be good and not a monster or self-destructively obsessive. I'd protect my shardworld from outside negative interference and make it a paradise for them. Mortals would be given a choice of becoming a CS or going to the Beyond.
-
Ah ok, that makes more sense haha.

I'm a little confused on how you came to this conclusion honestly. We don't see Kal consume metals or charge up pieces of metal with attributes or compound. He has a very strong link to Honor and was overcome by some kind of Odious influence after Teft's death, but neither of those need or seem to indicate Kal gaining another world's magic systems without any Connection to that world or means of accomplishing it like lerasium, medallions, a number of spikes.
-
He can consume Stormlight but not use it to surgebind nor does it make him Radiant. He could also teach this method to others.

Alteroden With Stormlight, the better the gem is cut, the less Stormlight it leaks, and the longer it holds its charge. If a gem was perfectly cut, on a molecular scale, would it leak Stormlight at all? Brandon Sanderson In a theoretical flawless gem, then no it would not. Alteroden Would it actually give off light? Brandon Sanderson [...] Theoretically no it would not, but it's not what you're thinking... Alteroden No no no, that’s not what I’m thinking, I figured that’s something totally different. Brandon Sanderson Well, actually, it probably would still give off light, because it's drawing out of the Spiritual Realm. So I’d say it still lights, but it doesn't leak. The leaking is not where the illumination is coming from. The illumination is coming from a direct... It's basically a light bulb screwed into the Spiritual Realm. Would you have made the deal?
Rorzikel replied to Truthwatcher Artifabrian's topic in Stormlight Archive
You’re assuming that Odium would agree to such a thing. He might but he might just as easily make it a one time option as he’d been saying. -
I think you’re placing restrictions on it that don’t exist. We know that a Connector could break into hemalurgic creations and control them like emotional allomancers do, for example.
-
Wit is storing his memories in his Breaths and Taravangian is save-scumming through the conversation by messing with Hoid's memories everytime Hoid figures out he isn't talking to Rayse. Odium is causing Hoid to forget things essentially.

What is the qualitative difference between an Avatar in the sense that Bavadin uses them and a splinter?
-
I mean, but it can? Rashek kept Scadrial in technological stasis for a thousand years. No one, presumably given that to have a stranglehold on information and realmatic development, this person or group is acting either as the current authoritarian government with unilateral powers or is effectively the government in all but name. Indeed.
-
Oh, Scadrial is definitely a nightmare for anyone who isn't scadrian. Their government is, at most, 32 victims away from a living god and a still active cosmere-aware entity has already shown the ability to manufacture a medallion that grants fullbornhood. Even obeying the three spike limit, careful planning can make extremely dangerous creations. A twinborn given three additional powers could be, for example, a gold compounder, a steel compounder, and A-copper to make a hyperlethal assassin virtually undetectable to both mundane and invested sense and capable of Wolverine-like healing. They could have 3 times A-Electrum, A-Duralumin, and F-Copper and act as both an anti-futuresight measure like Renarin does as well as mining the future constantly for tactical and strategic advantage. You could have steel compounding, A-Duralumin, A-Chromium, F-Gold and have a tool which can neutralize highly invested threats like Bondsmiths. A Scadrial whose magic systems are understood and competently used in combination is a severe inherent risk to the peace and safety of the rest of the Cosmere. All it takes is one political movement with expansionist intent and the Cosmere runs redder than the Scar.

Navani has self worth. That self worth does not mean she get to impose her will to subvert someone's agency over legitimate concerns. The Sibling does not want to bond a human because of the risks to the Sibling's safety and because they don't trust humans. That's their choice, their preference, and that decision is valid even beyond Navani's needs or wants. It's not about management, because the Sibling's problem isn't one of competency, it's a moral and ethical one based around Navani's use of spren and a rational fear born out of previous trauma caused by humans. To me, it's like trying to compel a bisexual person to date a man after they suffered trauma with an ex, and would prefer to be with a woman.

I think Ruin being far more invested in Scadrial than Odium is on Roshar would be relevant. I'm unsure if it would let them do so, or at least anymore than whatever application of Transformation Raboniel had. Adhesion is cool but I think it's somewhat neutered on it's own or with a less potent surge like gravitation.
-
I'd buy it if it was just the fused not getting powers but Adhesion is clearly special to Stormlight abilities and resilient against Void-based attacks. The Sibling also says that they believe Kal is staying awake because of his closeness to Adhesion. It can't just be propaganda and I don't believe Rayse would withhold the relative power of Adhesion if it was a useful tool. Not giving them Bondsmith powers I could see, but fused are single surge surgebinders, they shouldn't be making perps or pulling Ishar type moves.

Cool fact- Luckspren look like plumes of smoke when they're leaving a dead greatshell's body. I'd say that's a pretty good addition to the Skybreaker argument.

I wonder if the setting of the Dark One was this originally and Whimsy was their shard. Fits the Narnia vibes, though it would be rather dark for Whimsy.
-
I don't think it was like a character creation process in a video game. Or that Honor made them custom physical forms that differed from their mortal bodies at all. The Heralds apparently look the age they were when they became heralds and I think that's how they rez over and over when they Return.

Are the Ghostbloods an outgrowth of the Set?
Rorzikel replied to Silverblade5's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Mhm. As I said, this theory heavily hinges on Kelsier identifying with oppressed peoples of the entire cosmere rather than only and always Scadrians. -

Sja-Anat is a major splinter of Odium and she switched to team Honor and has been acting distinctly non-Odious. Highspren have already switched sides for ideological reasons and in RoW we learned about how several Truespren species were going over to Odium motivated by the desire to live and a grudge against humanity. We also know that Ati, a vessel of ten thousand years rather than Kel’s mere moments, and who had been entirely subsumed into the intent, would have seen that influence fade significantly. Investiture makeup, intent, and previous allegiance to their shard, humanity, and planet does not stop spren from having some level of free will to act even in what appears to be outright contradiction of their traits. -
Probably has been, but the main problem is that Honorless is specifically looking for male lgbt protagonists. Obviously queer rep is pretty low but you're far, far more likely to get a lesbian one.

I think he did "break," as in willingly release himself and the voidspren to go back to Roshar, but only after he realized that they had already started a desolation by circumventing the Oathpact. Basically, I think he could have kept going but gave in when he realized it was pointless to stay.

I want a cosmere take on superheroes desperately.
