I was thinking this magic system would be more internal. Al la you are imposing your understanding or how the world works on physical matter through math.
-
You mean a number with specific significance in some way. Like three is a magic number?
-
That would to easily allow limitless energy. Basically anyone who did well in high school math would have the energy to destroy the universe.
-
Does anyone have any idea of what powers this system?
-
Except for my special Harmony cookies which are equally of ruin and preservation.
-
No more like someone Harmony keeps around to stir things up or calm them down by providing nifty tidbits to about potential interesting things happening in various parts of the world. So more like Hamoney's cat.

theory Helaran wasn't involved with the Skybreakers
Karger replied to Sedside's topic in Stormlight Archive
Heleran's blade was dead I don't think their is any argument against that. As to why the Skybreakers have dead blades? Likely for this vary eventuality if one of their agents dies then they do not want the lack of a falling blade to give away their existence. Also a full Skybreaker might be tempted to use surgbinding in combat so sending one in for this type of kill seems unwise. As to Amaram not committing any crimes the Skybreakers could easily have found out some kind of technicality that would allow them to kill him. This is especially true for someone like Amaram who was part of a criminal conspiracy. When pattern refers to lies he is likely detecting the misleading statements intended to alter Shallan's perceptions so that she starts sympathizing with the ghostbloods and believing what they tell her. -
We also don't know that all of the Radiant's associated with one another. If Mr nobody in the middle of nowhere bonds a highspren with the help of another radiant who was passing through and decides not to leave his hometown then another Skybreaker would still recognize him as one of their own even if he was never part of their formalized system of radiant governance. So Nale could have interacted with the other KR whenever he felt like it if he wanted to.

Hmmm compassionate love is underrated compared to romantic love. I think that a relationship between two people who truly care about and respect each other might be on better footing then one between two individuals who think each other are sexy.

Jasnah was on the offensive against unintelligent, thrilled opponents who probably underestimated her. She easily got rid of them by soulcasting or transporting them neither of which is feasible on Kaladin as he can fly and has armor. Also Sadeas's soldiers never closed on her. They spent time running at her yelling which is different from a direct hand to hand combat where half a second is a long time. 3. Kaladin increases pressure. 4. Kaladin punches the rock with his shardplate to generate a spark I am pretty sure that Kaladin has some experience in regular grappling. We see he has some skill as he spars with Rock Sig and Lopen in WoR. I have serious doubts the Jasnah does though. Who would she practice with? Dito to Jasnah having experience with plate.
-
I am not sure that in a grapple plate experience matters that much. Is it not the same as normal grappling but choke holds are out?

Connected Orders in Radiants Diagram
Karger replied to Chromium Compounder's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Renarin is likely a special case I was just thinking about normal Truethwathers. -
I am willing to bet that their are less then a hundred inquisitors in the entire empire. Do you realy think they would spend time looking through one area of a single city when they are also needed for(among other things) policing other cities, killing uncooperative nobility, and putting down rebellions. Also as long as they mistling underground has hiedouts the smaller fry will reproduce and make more mistlings which the inquisitors need to reproduce.

Theory: Why some Shardblades have symbols on the blade
Karger replied to galendo's topic in Stormlight Archive
But it was actually quite easy to loose a blade before they figured out how to summon and dismiss them drop you blade one day and it could cut its way out of almost anything. Also logically their should be way more blades and plate around then their are. -
Negative is where people go when they die. It is possible to bring them back through the right knowledge of manipulating negative numbers either partially or completely. This is why killing a powerful Arithmatist is basically impossible and so instead they are trapped in numerical prisons.

Hello everyone I have been having fun making this magic system for a while and I just want to hear suggestions. I am not a writer and I doubt that I will have a chance to use this but it is a fun thought experiment. I am not sure what powers this magic system but I have decided that when attempting to access some kind of magic the mage will be given a math question based on what they are attempting to accomplish. Arithmetic Adding: used for healing Subtracting: used for harming Multiplication: used for increasing another magical effect Division: Used for decreasing another magical effect Geometry: Used for localizing an area effect Algebra: Used for conjuration Logarithms and Exponents: Used to grow or shrink physical objects Graphing: Used for teleportation Functions: Used for creating or managing ley lines along which long range powerful spells can be manipulated Trigonometry: Used for basic divination Calculus: Used for the location and use of sub ley lines as well as some higher level divination That is what I have so far. Anyone have any ideas on additional capabilities or what powers this stuff?

First things first come up with some more magicy names they might jog your creativity.

Connected Orders in Radiants Diagram
Karger replied to Chromium Compounder's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Perhaps as I believe was suggested earlier normal lightweavers rely on their photographic memories to produce illusions. Or perhaps it is because of the different orders philosophy. Pattern refers to Shallan's illusions as lies. Perhaps Truethwatcher Illusions can only show absolute truths. -
Oops
-
He spends like half of the trip through shademar feeling inadequate because he can't compete with Kaladin. He cares enough to let her go and he also seems to seriously care for her personal wellbeing. How is that never thinking of her?
-
Tien was confirmed as a lightweaver and he seems pretty happy most of the time. The gap in his soul was something else.
-
Adolin is a chill compassionate man but in I seriously doubt that he would be cool with his wife going behind is back. Also I seriously doubt either Syl or Pattern would approve. Syl is the spirit of oaths that includes marriage and pattern would not be OK with Shallan perpetuating a lie especially to someone he definitely likes. Also what happens when Jasnah or Dalinar find out? YIKES! Also Kaladin is going to sneak behind his friends back?
-
I am not sure this would work as Jasnah would have to look into shadesmar while fighting. This is a dangerous prospect as her ability to see real world events might be altered(She might try and soulcast and come back to discover Kaladin has shattered her helm). Also Providing Kaladin with a combustible seems like a bad idea given what he is able to do with pressure. Try pinning someone to the ceiling.
