    We are talking about an ancient record that could have been incorrectly translated or written by someone who did not fully understand what was going on. Perhaps surgbinding was just the ancient singer word for magic generally.

    Um yes? I must point out that soulcasting someones bones to something like stone would likely be bad for them and I doubt that any individual has the proficiency to safely soulcast anyone else in major ways like you suggest but in theory their is no reason why it is not possible.

    Why not just make it so that their is a codified magical language that everyone uses?

    I don't think you can. Mixing investiture is a bit tricky. It would just be like programing. You need an if statement. If something approaches at speed greater then x push on it with force x*y. Should not be too hard.
