  1. I think that the ministry would have an extraordinarily hard time getting a female thug from a noble family who was getting ready to be married to become a secret agent and investigate the mistling underground. Not only do the inquisitors tend to take care of most of it but assigning such an agent(who must be in very short supply) to monitor somthing they did not know was yet a major threat is super overkill even for them. Their perception changes after they are spiked. They seem to become more Ruiny. They might actually enjoy the pain at that point. You misunderstand. I am equally confused. If Elend and his cronies had come of age they could have done quite a lot. Remember their authority was legitimate and legal. Kelsier's never could be. He was making a political point. It was an act of for lack of better word terrorism. Using fear and threat of force to pass a political agenda. That is his political point to the Skaa. Fighting against me is not going to be safer then fighting for me.
  2. I personally would prefer a less intuitive system that had more specific results. Also for the purposes of research, commerce, and industry I think the current system is far better.
  3. If you say so. I find myself being a bit shaky on this one.
  4. Maybe but their powers would not be nearly as impressive.
  5. Also to prevent low level riots of disruptions from stopping the party until it had reached full on crazy level.
  6. This could make an interesting Mistborn era 4 with Harmony not being able to exert himself directly but Autonomy only having a limited number of shots.
  7. I thought your theory indicated that only investiture that had been assigned to do something else by adonalsium could be used. Since there are a limited number of entities that fit that description a limited number of avatars could be made from them since no new ones are going to show up(the big a being dead).
  8. The bands do not have to be super invested. Remember with normal metalminds we are only making them with a tiny fraction of the investiture of one measly human soul. It is not like we have any evidence that humans are super invested. Just a bunch stronger then that would be noticeable.
  9. You could just do what Miles does and only pull use one power(we see him burn gold that he has previously put healing in).
  10. Bondsmiths are in many ways the most powerful and important of the Radiants. They bond the three great spren of Roshar and from them gain some equally unique abilities. Their rarity made them in great demand in ancient times. The monarchs of Roshar depended on them for advice, the fact that only one of them was around at the time of The Recreance may have contributed to that tragedy, and the Knights of the time clearly thought it an ominous sign. While there is no real equivalent of the Bondsmiths on earth the way there is with Edgedancers and doctors they are often considered priests. In recent years a philosophy of interfaith dialogue has developed and it relates to known Bondsmith ideals quite nicely. For those of you who don't know I believe that Radiant Oaths (with the exception of Lightweavers) follow a pattern. The first ideal is constant, the second is about service, the third is about fairness, the fourth is about trust and the fifth is about the ultimate goal. This belief fuels all of my oath theories. The first ideal for Bondsmiths is of course the same "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination." This is always the first ideal. After this however we have to speculate. Thanks to the collection of badassery that is Dalinar Kholin we know the first second ideal of Bondsmiths "I will unite instead of divide. I will bring men together." This is a rather straightforward ideal although unfortunately it has not been a particularly common ideal for priests. However a desire for dialogue and understanding have become much more popular in faithful communities around the world. A quick Wikipedia search revealed some of this idea to me. Of these one part of its explanation jumped out at me. ""In the dialogue of the hands, we all work together to make the world a better place in which we must all live together." Wait a minute I thought. These two concepts embody the same principle. Religions differ so wildly in almost every respect that the term "religion" actually escapes definition. The belief in bettering the self and the communities around us however is nigh universal both in schools of ethics and in religions across the world. It also ties nicely in with my pattern radiant ideals theory. Thanks an amazing moment of badassery by Dalinar Kholin we know the third ideal of Bondsmiths I will take responsibility for what I have done. If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man. This ideal is clearly very individualized however at its core it is about learning from others(including yourself) and doing better in the future. It is also quite similar to a point from Wikipedia on interfaith dialogue, "In the dialogue of the heart, we share the experience of the emotions of those different from us." This is also somewhat related to my third ideal of fairness, making sure that you do not give yourself to much or too little attention, responsibility but also forgiveness. These concepts might seem contradictory but both are necessary parts of spiritual growth and learning and both are tied to the lesson of treating people better. Dalinar has not yet progressed to the fourth ideal. However I believe he is actually making progress toward it even as we speak. The last thing Dalinar does during Oathbringer is become literature so he can share his experiences. Another quote from Wikipedia on the idea of dialogue was "In the dialogue of the head, we mentally reach out to the other to learn from those who think differently from us." Dalinar's current mission is to help other people understand him intellectually and warn them about what he was. He hopes that other people will not have to undergo the experiences that he did and knows that the least he can do is warn them so that they can have some intellectual framework through which to view their experiences. In helping people understand him he works hard to help them understand themselves and through this to take actions that will benefit everyone as a whole. This is where Dalinar's last major flaw might get in the way. In his writings it might be too easy for him to equivocate. To give information that might technically be true but is designed to promote an agenda. Dalinar has always had trouble letting go of power. In this case he might have to let go of the meaning behind his own life. As such I think the fourth ideal (at least for Dalinar) will be "I will not interfere with what other people finding their own truth." A more general form might be "People are aloud to formulate their own ethics without my interference." The final ideal for Bondsmiths should relate via my ideal theory to the ultimate goal of Bondsmiths. Assuming that Bondsmiths have the same beliefs as interfaith organizers then then they must realize that "dialogue is a two-way communication where participants come with the primary goal of learning from each other, ready to establish trust, in honesty and sincerity, without hard-and-fast assumptions, as equals." All of these sound like exactly the sort of thing that a person who spends time mediating between world monarchs should keep in mind. A Bondsmith always has to be prepared to cast aside their own beliefs and be receptive to new ones. As such I think the final ideal of a Bondsmith should be "I will help us see each other for who we are." Please comment. We more more information then normal but Bondsmiths fill one of the most complex and important rolls in Radiant society. Also my pattern of oaths theory can be found here.
  11. In WoKs alone I can think of at least 4 major plot points that are equally awesome just off the top of my head. Yeah you know some of my favorites but you are far and away not going to miss everything.
  12. Yeah but whitch does the ministry have more interaction with? Their primary job is to police the nobility who also have a much larger number of mistlings. Nobles are the only people worth stealing from. There are no other countries to run to and just existing and having power is a death sentence. The odds are still stacked against the minstlings even if the ministry is fairly incompetent. Tattoos may hurt but they are not in the same class as regular beatings that endanger life, malnutrition and a host of other problems caused by poor sanitation. Afterward they can be mind controlled. That is done to them as children. This is not something they sign up for. If Vin could not burn pewter she would likely be dead. That is too much. Also consider her age and gender. At his point I am not really sure why we are debating this. As capable as Elend? Breaking up a political structure that is not too stable to begin with through a combination misinformation and assassination is not even in the same ballpark as enacting lasting political change. How? He expressed this view but he did not act on it. His missions to kill people at the very least were always strategic rather then emotionally motivated.
  13. That was probably primarily for dealing with nobles not skaa. They do have spies. Dox killed two of them during one of the first chapters. Kelsier would know how to spot them. I do not think any ministry spy would remain loyal to an employer through the several months that Vin endured Camon and those could not have been faked as the signs of physical abuse were readily apparent. Different levels of obligators who worked on different things. And he could not actually spend a lot of that money nor could he exercise any political power.
  14. Neither of these provide any real emotional support Preservation was mostly irrational and as to his information feed he had been dined that for quite some time and it was like television in that it offered no real chance to interact. It certainly is not something that it would be wise to advertise but that does not mean that revealing it is a death sentence. Dockson got a lot of this from Marsh who would know that it was not set up. Also she was clearly a helpless and abused girl. Exactly what more does Kelsier need to know? They actually knew quite a bit. They had to. Marsh had different goals then the average obligator and a different knowledge base that combined with his lifelong study of the organization aloud him to infiltrate it. Kelsier also did not know about worldhoppers and so did not take care to safeguard his people from Nalthian interference. You really can't expect him to know everything and react accordingly. He just did the best with what he had and that turned out to be enough. If Kelsier was a better positioned and supplied individual with political power it is possible he could have gotten away with making major changes to the political structure without killing as many people. We don't actually know what Suit wants but let us take for example Miles. Miles could have done what Wax decided to do. Move into the city and examine the nature of Elendelish money and politics. He could even have done what Marasi is doing and worked to improve the city for everyone through nonviolent messures assuming he had a good education. He chose to kill people instead. That kind of option was not open to Kelseir.
  15. You can post twice in response to someone else just don't post two times in a row. Edit your first post instead.
  16. ALL OF THEM! Sorry could not resist. Saw subject line. Killing him off would up the seriousness of the narrative. Remember when you kill someone off you are not just killing off the person but also what it represents to your MC. By killing character #2 you are also killing MC's sense of humor and fun. Killing off a mentor figure is a classic choice. This ups the seriousness of the situation for the MC and it also damages their sense of support and safety. Basically from what I can see it is the choice of making your MC sad or scared.
  17. The avatar themselves is not important. Only the way they are talked about. They are currently being made and this does not seem to be a particularly unusual event.
  18. So by my current understanding of your theory there is only the potential for a limited number of avatars. Is this correct?
  19. What about Autonomy's newest avatar? The one that is being endowed with a hatred of Hoid. That one is currently in the process of manifesting.
  20. Personally I think it changes states fairly often but it seems to freeze and condense regularly.
  21. Sure but by your theory Adonalsium would have to have already assigned that investiture yet we have evidence that new types of avatars show up regularly in the years since his death.
  22. Firstly I personally would prefer the first one. Secondly I am unsure why you think any of the magic systems selish people use would function if what you are proposing was accomplished.
  23. I am not sure how that helps.
