  1. "Right," Lita said. "Well, it doesn't seem to be coming our way, so let's just keep an eye on it." She took another sip of her wine, frowning, then turned to Laurelai. "There's some kind of incorporeal... thing hanging over the party," she said, nodding her head toward the shape while trying to appear at ease, like they were merely chatting. "Do you have any idea what it might be? Okame's spren caught a look at it just now. I've already reported it." @Voidus
  2. “How in the —“ Lita stopped, her mind registering his second comment. She looked up, tin letting her see the faint outline of...something hanging above everyone’s head. It seemed to be covered in dust. Or, she thought, revealed by it. ”No,” she said to Okame, quickly relaying an Alleycant message describing the thing. “That is definitely not normal. I know your spren isn’t exactly keen on playing lookout, but is there any way she can get a better look at whatever that is?” @Invocation
  3. @Vargo Seldon @Sorana @Chasmfiend#1 @Invocation @Steel Inquisitive @anyone else So, I was expecting everyone to come back to the tavern and have Liezl say "oh goodness have you seen Fritz" but I could also have Aldred mention him to the group and put it all together, since he does know Fritz (the errand boy) hasn't been seen all night or day, so that's not strictly speaking necessary. Algorath has been finding drops of blood so whatever is hunting the poor people has some kind of puncture-y type implement or body part at the least. The idea that has been brewing revolves around effectively sentient, hungry darkness, since that's sort of what the rumors are going around. I actually pictured it kind of like a weird spider-snake-mistwraith type thing, something that has no defined shape but has pointy solid-black legs that could pierce or skewer and then devour. However, if any of you have been imagining a thing yourselves, please let's discuss together!
  4. Lita looked at him flatly, then sighed. "Suit yourself, but I certainly won't be carrying you back if you happen to faint from hunger." She turned back toward the party, watching guests and reading their lips as they spoke, twirling her pen and recording anything that sounded interesting or important. To her left, Laurelai watched in a similar silence, left hand encased in a sleeve. The woman looked quite fetching in the blue gown, with all that silver on it. Lita amused herself for a moment imagining what would happen to someone who tried to flirt with her. "This is quite the lavish event," Lita said to her in a low voice. "Yet our hosts - whoever they really are - have reached out to plenty here for more funding. What could they possibly be trying to bankroll?" @Voidus
  5. Renata crossed her arms in front of her chest, feeling her pulse quicken a little. The others had a point, and she agreed with the brown-haired ardent woman. I doubt there's any getting out of this. "I don't trust this doctor fellow," she answered quietly, stepping closer to the others at the foot of the stairs, "and that's precisely why I'm not eager to anger him by sneaking around his house. Besides, how likely is it that we'll find any kind of real answers here? If he's sending us traipsing around Shadesmar, the sorts of things we'll be finding aren't the kind you can keep upstairs in your mansion."
  6. I really hate the phrase "hunky-dory," it sets my teeth on edge. I don't know why, but I hate it.
  7. Renata watched as the shardbearer tumbled backwards. Lizanne cried out somewhere further up the stairs, and the odd fellow in all the coats ducked over her. That's it, she thought walking a little closer. "What are you four doing?" she hissed, looking up the staircase. She could've sworn she heard Nitinyas' voice floating down from the upper levels. What would he do if he found four of his guests trying to sneak up the stairs? @I think I am here. @Sorana @kenod @Ark1002
  8. Aldred walked down along the canal, following the call that tugged him onward. He spotted the group a little ways down the street, close to a section of road that slopped downward towards the Fens. "Going somewhere?" he asked Jürgen. Somewhere dangerous no doubt. No one ever looks so somber on their way to a pub or a minstrel show.
  9. Wow, yes. 100% yes.
  10. Thank you for making this!! I have spent an absurd amount of time thinking about this kind of thing, and I actually made an entire playlist on Spotify for Kelsier recently because I couldn't pick one song or even two, but here goes. I'll likely come back to this and edit it as I think of more, this is actually a hobby of mine Odium - "If I Had a Heart" by Fever Ray Ruin- "What a Wonderful World" by Joseph William Morgan ft. Shadow Royale Kelsier - "The One to Survive" by Hidden Citizens and Josh Bruce Williams or "Bury Me Face Down" by grandson TenSoon - "Fear and Loathing" by MARINA Wax - "Gun In My Hand" by Dorothy Dalinar - "I'll Be Good" by Jaymes Young Shallan - "Splintered" by Aisha Badru Radiants in general - "Broken Things" by Clarity Hoid - "Conquest of Spaces" by Woodkid or "Who Are You, Really?" by Mikky Ekko Whenever Kaladin is fighting - "Whiplash" by Black Math
  11. Lita saw another set of representatives enter into the party hall and pulled her pen halfway out of her pocket, flaring her tin for a moment to get a better look at them. Ghostbloods, she was pretty sure. I shouldn't be talking right now, she thought. I need to get back up there and look around more before this speech begins. Her enhanced vision allowed her to pick out Okame and Laurelai sitting quietly, observing. She turned back to Lena. "I hope things work out as neatly for you as they did for me," she said. "And we should grab a drink at that tavern again when things aren't so busy. But I should get back up to my seat before this speech starts. Thanks for the pancake!" @Sorana Lita smiled apologetically, then turned and walked back up the tiered levels to her seat. She settled down between Okame and Laurelai, recording and sending descriptions of people and conversations she had heard or seen while speaking with Lena. That done, she settled back in her chair and sipped at her wine, closing her eyes and listening around herself. Those Ghostblood reps would likely start chatting soon, and though she could have picked out their voices down at a lower level, this was easier. Rusts, she thought as the sounds of the party filled her ears. I wish I knew more of these people. She'd intended to spend some time researching the current political situation in the city before getting sent out on a mission. Going in blind like this was unfamiliar territory. Still, experience was the greatest teacher. "Did you hear or see anything interesting while I was gone?" Lita quietly asked Okame, who was as still as a statue beside her. "Perhaps some food? Honestly, the menu was inside the invitation. You can't tease someone like that, it isn't right." @Invocation

This is what she's wearing to the meeting, they're about to explore a foreign world. Sensible clothes!
  13. Aldred stood up from behind the counter, a large silvery fish in one hand, a wooden bowl in another. The low thrum of magic pulled at him from nearby. An argument, he thought, quickly setting the fish in the bowl and sliding it toward Chadwick. Excellent. His headache had almost fully receded, and he felt energy singing it’s way through his blood. “Your food’s ready,” he said to the wolf, grinning. “Or, you could come help me make sure whoever’s our there doesn’t kill one another in front of Liezl’s lovely tavern.” @Turtle373 @Vargo Seldon
  14. Aldred chuckled, then knelt down and scratched under the wolf's chin. When done, he continued up the stairs, calling back down to Chadwick. "Did you get any breakfast? Liezl's likely helping the mage with his wagon, but I'm sure I could find you something in the back. Well, that is, if you like fish."
  15. Lita took the pancake and slipped it into her small purse. Lena seemed nice, but these days she was pretty wary of eating anything she hadn't prepared herself. "Glad you got rid of your blackmail problem," she said. "I can relate." The memory of Forian lying dead on the floor floated briefly in her mind's eye. "I'm well, all things considered," Lita continued, half an ear focused on the conversations around her. "Found myself a guild, got some new jewelry..." She looked at the little spikes in her forearms, smiling wryly. "Life seems to be looking up. Or at least, looking interesting. I do wonder what all the fuss is about here, though. As much as I love drinking Scadrian wine on someone else's tab, I'm eager to know the reason we're all here." @Sorana
  16. Lita looked around at her name, standing quickly. She smiled as she tried to recall the woman's face. There was a familiarity to it... Lena, she realized, from the tavern. Rusts, that felt like weeks ago. Had it really just been two days? Lita's smile became more genuine, and she twirled her pen, sending a quick message describing the meeting. "Lena," she said, slipping the pen back into her pocket. "Thank you. It was an unexpected find, but lucky. What brings you here?" As she reached out to shake Lena's hand, she felt a little thrill go through her. Would she notice the tiny metal spikes in her forearms? Even if she didn't, it was pretty obvious she was sitting with the other DA representatives. Was this woman now her enemy? Was everyone here an enemy? One way to find out. @Sorana
  17. Lita shrugged. “Well it would’ve been stupid of me not to ask.” Who’s ruling who here? She thought, looking around for a food table. Okame’s talk of cooking had reminded her just how hungry she was.
  18. Lita considered this, then nodded. "I suppose that's fair enough," she said, continuing to watch the party. An idea began to form in her mind. "The, um... spirit that's bonded to you," she asked quietly. "Can it move about the room? Listen and observe? I'm good with my tin - better than good- but there's no substitute for being right next to someone. We're here to observe, after all." @Godhunter
  19. Lita rolled her eyes, this time doing nothing to hide it. A real riot, this one. The wine didn't seem to be killing her yet, so she took another sip. "Is it true that all the women in your lands have to wear gloves on one of their hands or something? Sounds absurdly inconvenient."
  20. Lita suppressed an eye-roll, increasing the burn of her tin for a moment and sniffing the glass of wine in her hand. She couldn't detect any poisons, and plenty of other people were drinking... Lita took a small, cautious sip, paying careful attention to her body. "So," she said to Okame. "What do you do for fun?" She slipped the pen out from behind her ear, twirling it as though she were bored. Not much of note had happened yet, but she figured that too much information was better than too little. A few more new people had arrived, and she described them, tin allowing her to pick out their features easily.
  21. Lita looked up at the waiter. Prompt service, she thought, appreciative. She slid her pen behind her ear and beckoned the waiter over. "Scadrian wine, please," she said. "Red."
  22. Aldred looked at Chadwick, surprised at the question. A low thrum pulsed out from the wolf, betraying his Natural magic. Aldred shrugged. "You're asking some awfully deep questions so early in the morning," he said. "But yes, I'd say so. Ask me again this evening after I've had a few pints - I'm sure we could have quite the rousing debate about it." He very nearly pat Chadwick on the head automatically, then stopped himself, hand hovering awkwardly above the wolf's head. "Er... can I, uh... pat you? Or do you prefer to shake?"
  23. Lita walked in the direction the woman pointed, slipping her pen out of her pocket and twirling it in an absent fashion, making sure to note the man who had passed the secretary a message. He was led elsewhere, and whatever he'd written on that paper had finally gotten a reaction out of the woman. Important, then, Lita thought, careful to appear unconcerned about anything but the door in front of her. The others followed her into the party, which was set in an elaborate tiered room, all centered around a stage of sorts, or perhaps it was a dancefloor. Lita twisted the silky drawstrings of the little purse Laurelai had let her borrow, which contained extra vials of tin, a notebook, and sharp slender spike that looked like a stiletto dagger. She glanced back at Okame, eager to see his reaction to this place. The representatives' platform level was at the very top of the room, giving an excellent view of the levels full of people drinking and mingling. Lita could almost taste the scheming in here. She felt her mouth curve into a wicked little smile. So many secrets. Lita slid her glasses to the end of her nose, surveying the party with tin-enhanced vision. "Care for a drink?" she asked the Horneater as the three of them took their seats. @Godhunter
  24. Lita stepped out of the shadowed hallway adjacent to the reception desk, Laurelai and Okame following behind her. She smoothed the front of her dress and adjusted her fur wrap, glad that she'd Alleytraveled the Horneater here in one piece. There had been a moment there when she was sure she'd taken a wrong turn, but here they were. The woman at the desk seemed utterly unphased at three people suddenly appearing, which Lita noted and filed away. She tried not to look nervous as she walked up to the desk. This was it, her first mission for the Dark Alley. Don't rust it up Lita, the little voice in her head whispered. She pulled out her invitation, setting it on the woman's desk with a small, knowing smile. Her tin was on, and the spanreed pen was a welcome weight in the pocket of her dress. She was ready. "We're here for the party," Lita said. She let her smile grow a little, showing a bit of teeth. @Godhunter @Voidus
