"I should like to look through it, once we get out there," Renata said, the slightest hint of a smile touching her lips. The sky had always fascinated her, and the possibility of seeing it up close...

A very slight tug at the edge of Aldred's mind brought him out of his thoughts, most of which revolved around sneaking back up to bed and never waking up again. The Descendant woman, Lilia, slid into the seat next to him and began writing on a small piece of paper. "Morning," he said, watching her write. "The others have gone out to the census, I think. All except for Janim, not too sure where that one ran off to." Probably skulking around on the roof, he thought, eating a little more porridge. @kenod

A telescope. She'd heard of those, like a very strong spyglass. "And did you bring it with you? This telescope?"

"Do you know the new constellations already?" Renata turned to look at Arun in full now. "I recall reading something about them being totally new."

Yeah there are rooms above the bar, also Mutig slept in an old stable under the tavern that is used to hold old ale casks. So indoor or outdoor options are available, depending.

I just figured it would be a relevant way to get people to start asking more pointed questions about the vague rumors of missing people. However, if we want to plot it differently, he can simply be a lazy boy who got distracted and then wanders back in later

Yes, unsure whether or not I'm going to make him dead, I might NPC him to give some kind of idea of what's hunting people. Either way, Fritz is absent from duty and the tavern owner will be asking Aldred to go look for him eventually.

Looks like they've gathered all the Ten Fools here, Renata thought, chewing her lip absently. And I'm one of them. "Well," she said aloud, "that's reassuring."

Aldred sat at the counter of the Half Moon Tavern, nursing a mug of small beer and a nasty headache. He'd had every intention of going to the census this morning, but it had taken longer than he'd expected to clear the mead-induced fog from his mind. Liezl set a bowl of porridge down in front of him and smiled wickedly. "Good morning!" she said brightly, grin broadening when Aldred flinched at the volume of her voice. "Blight you, woman," Aldred muttered darkly, pinching the bridge of his nose. It felt like a group of tiny, angry chickens were pecking the back sides of his eyes. "Greta has yet to rise this morning," Liezl said, wiping the counter. It was largely empty in the main room, just a few patrons who looked similarly bedraggled. "I don't suppose you had anything to do with that?" Aldred tried to smirk, but could only managed a weak grimace. "She can drink a shocking amount for her size, that girl," he said. Liezl rolled her eyes. "Well it's just my luck, errand boy and barmaid both skipping duty. I don't suppose you caught Fritz drinking somewhere?" "Fritz?" Aldred opened one of his eyes, dropping his hand and taking a tentative spoonful of porridge. "Can't say that I have." "Fool boy," Liezl said, polishing a bottle of cherry cordial. "He's probably sleeping outside the bakery up the street, hoping for a sweet bun. He'll be having some words with the back of my hand when he finally skulks back in here..."

Come and enjoy breakfast with Aldred. Also, since you were the last people in the RP to see the little boy, you may have some input on where he could have gone.

Renata raised an eyebrow at the girl. "I'm Renata," she said. "I don't suppose you have any kind of practical survival experience? Any skills that would come in handy on this expedition?"

If you want to continue on to the tavern, @Invocation and I are still there. We can time-skip so that it's morning, and we've met (presumably the previous night), and are hanging out. The tavern owner is going to be asking about her runner boy, so someone will need to be there to start putting together the disappearance.

Renata started a bit, looking to the side to see one of the younger girls, Arun, standing next to her. There was a wholesome exuberance about her that was both irritating and charming. "Hello," Renata said. "You're Arun, right?" She peered at the girl a little closer. "Aren't you a bit young to be signing on for an expedition like this? @Blessing of Potency

People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley
ZincAboutIt replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
Lita jerked awake, peeling her cheek off the table. The Alleycant medallion was still strapped to her arm, but the pen had rolled off the table to who-knew-where. She stood, blearily rubbing one eye, and slid the gold coin off the table, flipping it absently as she crossed to the door and opened it. "Good...morning?" Lita said, pulling the door open wider as she saw Laurelai had her hands full. The smell of coffee wafted in ahead of her. "Is it morning?" -
Renata breathed out slowly as she watched the man move away towards a servant carrying a platter of food. Wonderful, she thought, an entire expedition stuck with this cad. She tugged at the ends of her hair absently, then wove her way through the group of people until she was at the opposite end of the room. Another servant walked by, carrying small flatbreads piled with cream and fish. She grabbed one and stuffed it into her mouth, more to have something to do than any real hunger. Her fingers itched to lift up the left sleeve of her tunic, to read the name. Her name. She resisted, instead taking a closer look at the rest of the guests. None of them seemed particularly experienced in travel, which set her on edge. One of the people, a young woman in robes designed with overlapping v-shapes, couldn't have been older than sixteen. What kind of expeditionary force is this? She felt like one of the more experienced travelers here, which was disturbing as she'd spent the last year running messages through the Alleycity, not learning how to survive in a foreign world. Perhaps this doctor fellow would bring some specialized explorers along when he arrived.

Renata flinched as Hellbent-son-Palm took her hand, kissing it. The feeling of skin on skin sent a spike of panic through her. She tugged her hand out of his grasp as soon as she could, not really caring how impolite it was. This isn't Jah Keved, she reminded herself. You're the same rank here - you don't need to bow and scrape just because he has a Shardblade. "I don't like being tied to one place," Renata said, letting some ice creep into her voice. "Life is much simpler when you're on your own. But this expedition was too good of an opportunity to pass up." She sipped the last of her yellow wine, then slipped one of the little pastries out of her pocket, taking a bite. "Who wouldn't want to explore a whole new world?" @Element of Chaos

I think they are going to the census? I guess Aldred is still asleep in the tavern?? Also, for anyone planning on referencing missing people, the little boy who ran around advertising the Half Moon Tavern, Fritz, is missing. He's one of the people who goes missing, which I am planning on having be the reason the group starts investigating purposefully. I am assuming that at least some of the group will be staying in/around the tavern.

So are we just time-skipping to the morning? Trying to figure out what's up.

Aldred raised a brow. "Kipped down in the Fens, I'd bet," he said, rolling his shoulders as a shiver went through him. That was a nasty place, dank and strange. The flooded old city was nowhere he ever wanted to be.

Aldred looked up from his mug of mead as the bear made to stand. "You're more than welcome to sleep under the tavern. There's an old stable quarter that Liezl uses to store the ale. You're welcome to it if you keep out of the casks." @Chasmfiend#1

I understand! There isn't quite a huge rush to get in a character asap, but the sooner you get in the easier it will be to follow the storyline. No pressure though. It's all for fun, after all!

Here is the link to the character sheets. You can find an explanation of the world and the magic here. As far as hard/soft goes, it's a bit of a sliding scale. The hardest magic system is probably Ritual, the softest is a toss-up between the other two. Probably Natural magic is the softest. Ritual magic uses runes and an outside investiture source to manipulate the world around you. Anyone can do it, but it takes a long time to learn. Natural magic is gained via belief, which affects the cognitive realm and thus the physical, warping someone or something into an augmented, altered magical version of itself. Innate magic is something someone is born with, and can skew closer to Ritual or closer to Natural depending on your gender or really just your preference, since the gender split is somewhat malleable. I highly recommend glancing over the Google doc first and then asking any follow up questions.
-
Also, there's no true index for scoring like there is in the normal Alleyverse thread. There's less rules here but characters do need to have community approval. Character sheets should be modeled off the ones linked in the Google doc in the OP. The most important step is explaining the why/how of their magic.
