  1. My apologies. In hindsight of hindsight, I should not have cut him. V1 of this list exceeded the limit of 30 options by a considerable number. I had, for examle, Skathan, Praxton, Kenton, Kwaan, Rashek and Aslydin on the list. And I collapsed a lot characters into "A Kandra". The list of characters in older books which could concievably be worldhoppers is huge. Just about every Kandra, the Five Scholars, did Baon leave alone ...
  2. Technically a space elevator. You build a hion line up. As the planet rotates you will be moving faster the higher you go up being further from the hub you are rotating around. At a height that is a few hundred kilometers up, you will end up in orbit, if you let go. If you go over geosynchronous orbit, you will be hurled out into space. I just don't see how they wish to return.
  3. Making the poll I thought about that of course. Yet, first I want people to make their own conclusions. And, second and more important, by some reading of that comment we are already there. The Sanderson is devious and prone to keeping secrets. With SP#1 and SP#3 together he already has introduced three new planets.
  4. Let's go on record. The proposals are roughly in order of publication and are as extensive as I could make them.
  5. There is just one unannounced secret project left. So now is the time to make a bold prediction.
  6. The story line, yes. It just is the only story about assumed identities Brandon has done. That is strange. I'd say in terms of its Invested Art Yumi's world is basically Sel with fabrials.
  7. But they don't. There is an "element" incorporated in the bowl. Otherwise the whole bar would heat up. Yes, it is probably made of Investiture. But that is not the whole story, as it does not dissipate as Stormlight would, or fall down under the influence of gravity as a god metal would. Technically we do not know whether it is even solid. The busses using it may carry yet another "element". What it resembles most is Aons as drawn into the air by an Elantrian or the Investiture pipeline the Ire used.
  8. Again we get a temporal hint. And another genocide. The shroud came 1700 years ago, give or take. Does anybody think that this was not a consequence of the Shardic suicide? If no, then we have a slight chronological problem. If Virtuosity were to be the Survival Shard changing her perspective arounf the time of SA, we would have to assume that YAP is very far in the future. How far in the future can SOTD be? Intuitively I'd say centuries, not almost 2000 years. Are we really looking at the youngest Cosmere story of all times? If so, where are the space ships? If not, why did Virtuosity do it?
  9. That is her job. And she excels at it. These people in effect turn some of their children into tools and then go to the logical conclusion of making optial use of the tools. Utilitarian. It is unclear to me whether you are seeing a role or a human being.
  10. Life increases entropy if you take the universe as a whole. Life lessens entropy locally at the cost of a global increase. Life, if you will, is ultimately selfish.
  11. He calls it an ailment. And complains that initially he remained concious. So this is an accident, illness or attack.
  12. That would make Jasnah an ancient worldhopper at that time. That means that she would know what oceans on many worlds look like and she is an atheist. Jasnah is about the only person he could not be telling TOTES to.
  13. The Shards? How do they know about Shards if they have no idea about the wider Cosmere? Did the local Shard once have a priesthood telling stories about the wider Cosmere which they have demoted to myths?
  14. My Thanks to all responders. The question was in relation to the footwear to be seen on the cover of SP#3 and has been mooted.
  15. Aren't you best at something if you can innovate and improve it? I would see Cultivation as opposed to Invention.
  16. Let me start with three basic facts about Fortune Hoid is at an statistically improbable number of places where important stuff happens and given his speed and timing he must have know weeks, likelier months in advance Wyrn sent Fjorn to assasinate Hrathen weeks in advance given travel times, yet he did not know Hrathen would turn traitor Odium asks Taravangian whether he had access to Futuresight or Fortune And a few facts about Futuresight if it is more than a few seconds it always shows a plethora of options the future is mutable And one report about Hemalurgy it is speculated that Hemalurgy can steal destiny At first sight this looks contradictory. So how does time work in the Cosmere? To cut it short it seems to operate a lot like in Dr. Who. There are fixed points in time, which will have importance without predetermined outcome, but the rest is mutable. So I would propose: Futuresight shows you the mutable part of time Your relation to the fixed points is Destiny and it is what can be stolen with Hemalurgy The ability to sense those fixed points is what is called Fortune
  17. Did it? Or was that the result of interactions? The people on Yumi's world spend a lot of time on rituals and pampering the spirits. The depiction of that can be seen as empty rituals. But what if they are not? In fact are we even sure that the Invested arts of both worlds are even different? Could Painters turn the nightmares into something useful? Could Yumi's world make hion lines, but they just do not know the trick? Would other forms of art rather than stacking rocks work, if the population appreciated them as much?
  18. YAP is potentially centuries in the future compared to SA. How certain can we be that Virtuosity was one of the original 16 as opposed to a product of Shardic fusion?
  19. So is Virtuosity the counter to Whimsy?
  20. The big counter examples are Sel and Roshar.
  21. Interesting notion. But you need to explain why they kept the name. Later Roshar had a much dimmer view of the Knights Radiant.
  22. They did not name the Silver Kingdoms after the metal out of disdain, did they?
  23. Yumi's planet How does the water cycle work? Are the plants and animals themselves using Invested arts? Painter's world What precisely are they eating? How does agriculture work in a lightless world? How is oxygen made without photosynthesis? What is the point of having many cities? Why isn't the planet covered in ice? How does thermoregulation work?
  24. What we know and can conclude Invested entities turning themselves into fabrials is not limited to Roshar we have a new system of Initiation. You are put into "office" by general acclamation Invested entities feeding on emotions and thoughts is not limited to Roshar what the Midnight Mother can do is not limited to Roshar totally new stuff the hions partially understandable stuff the nightmares are more or less what the Midnight Mother does, but what generates them the paintings, are they basically the same thing as Aons or are they visual Commands? the painters give commands to nightmares, but how do you become a painter I must say Painter's planet is more interesting, as what Yumi does, let's be honest, is basically a stronger version of what Rock or Cord can do. The hions are really new stuff.
  25. Their tech base relies on materialized Invested entities. It is most likely that it cannot be taken out of the star system.
