  1. The problem is that Silverlight is not advanced enough to have done research for thousands of years. Khrissallla should have carried more than a simple pistol. That is an extremely strong assumption on how the CR works. Right. So Silverlight University postdates White Sand. Age. By Era 2 Krissalla understood the Doppler effect, knew something about the nature of light and at least Newtonian mechanics. Yet she knew optics and primitive firearms over a thousand years before? The pace of progress is glacial.
  2. (Quoting Ialai) Well, that merely means that it is not a Thaylen word in common circulation she can find in dictionaries. And you may notice that Ialai also considers these titles to come out of different languages.
  3. Well, Mraize and Thaidakar are phonetically not compatible. In fact Thaidakar could very well be Alethi. It may end in the same suffix as Elho-kar. Or the basic word is ThaidakV, to which -ar is suffixed. And nobody comments that that is a strange name. Then we have Mraize. It fits to Lraezare in that it allows to sonorants in direct contact and features a "z". But so do Thaylen names and the man is ethnically (though not genetically) Thaylen. I am afraid the geographically closer explanations for the names are simply more plausible.
  4. When did Khrissalla go to Scadrial for the first time. As she and Nazriloff met Kelsier for the first time, ash had been falling for about a thousand years, depending on the year you use. Scadrial was not a very terrestial world during that time. Yet she knew that Scadrial was an artificial creation. What led her to the conclusion? Did Ati or Leras give guided tours or interviews in the past to show off their cool new world? Did she conclude from the total lack of non-Yolish life forms? If so she must have visited classical Scadrial? In that case we must have at least 1400 years between White Sand and Alloy of Law. Is that realistic?
  5. Is there? They are extremely interplanetary. It is very hard to see them develop on a world without ready access to the Cognitive Realm. It is also hard to see how they would develop on a world with extremely restrictive politics. Hence I would rule out Sel - to hard to survive the CR First of the Sun - perpendicularity to hard to get to and from Scadrial - unless they are really old, how would they have survived TLR?
  6. If the bond was new enough, Pattern was not very sentient.
  7. Now, I know we got name dropped and are on cosmeric cloud nines, seventh heavens and are envisaging Jasnah and Kaladin, Sylspear in hand, exploring the dragon nests of Vax. But if you were a native Rosharan , albeit one who had made a trip to Shadesmar and met Azure, what would you think? Other worlds, maybe but only maybe. There are other possibilities: the Rosharans cannot possible know that there is just one continent on Roshar They do know that there are unknown places in Shadesmar So what will it be? They do know that there are alien populations of people. They have to explain Azure. But other planets? Rosharans have optics, so they must have some astronomy. They must know that Roshar is a planet, how large it is and that it orbits its sun. They must also know that there are other planets in the system. But do they know that stars are suns?
  8. Well, Rlain would also fit the pattern. This is cherry picking the data. Or an aspirated t as opposed to a plain t. The possible sounds in human languages overwhelms the Latin alphabet. Zahel? (Azure - if that is literally her name, not a color translated into English). Aesudan. Ialai. Eshonai. Again picking examples to the point of ignoring other examples.
  9. Spren, yes, Honorspren not ready to bond Radiants, how? Honorspren are rare in in most places of Shadesmar, to the point that they are an attraction people (spren) gather to watch. No oath gate is known to be located near a city of Honorspren. Nobody ever literally talked to Sja-Anat. She appeared in a magic mirror and sent a telepathic message by spren. That these arcane means reflect her actual speech is quite unlikely. Yes, but which spren is nice enough to send a warning first can get a gem stone into Navan's capsule would use a spanreed - why not just a letter Why the warning as opposed to poison in a drink or a knife in the back?
  10. They do know that gold can be used in fabrials. Kalami identified gold constructs in Urithiru as fabrials.
  11. That would make the Ghostbloods surprisingly young an organization. Kelsier died/transisitioned about 330 years before SA1. He surely spent quite some time basically stuck in Shadesmar of Scadrial. Then he saved the Southern Scadians. That does not leave all that much time to build up an organization active on several planets. Ghosts make me think of Threnody in fact.
  12. What makes you think that the reference is to all Honorspren rather than the renegades bonding Knights Radiant?
  13. Why would the Diagramm act as an agent for mad people?
  14. How would a Herald get a gem into the capsule? Walking up to an ardent and claiming to be a Herald is unlikely to work. Ghostbloods?
  15. Presuming these lists were not made by people overhearing conversations. It is surprisingly hard to hear foreign names correctly. Alethi has a "kh" sound. They would not render Dakhor with a "k"
  16. I suggest this be taken to the thread dedicated to fabrials.
  17. Lraezare & Mraize - two sonorants in a row Skathan & Thaidakar - th is cross linguistically rare (if that indeed is an interdental fricative and not literally t followed by h)
  18. They are hunting inside the chasms and go around corners like mad.
  19. I suppose if you used zinc on a flame spren, you'd get an actual flame, as opposed to heat from pewter.
  20. How would they catch whatever they are hunting? Remember how that chasmfiend hunting Shalland and Kaladin turned around and went around corners? An elephant trying that would end up with broken bones and dislocated joints.
  21. But there is. The chasmfiends do not splinter their legs when they jump. Momentum is important.
  22. Sja-Anat. If it were another force of Odium with that capability, why not poison or a knife in her back? And few would have the capability of getting a gem into Navan's capsule.
  23. You probably could. Yet we are not sure that for all effect there is a counterspren. Yet if tin does not make diminishers, then what does? Unless I am misunderstanding the nature of diminishers. The other choice I could see as remotely plausible would be copper. I doubt that they are Gravitationspren. They are Spren of Mass. Gravitation does not make you lighter. You just fall into another direction. You can use that with a trick to make yourself lighter, but that is not the primary effect.
  24. You raise a question. Did Scadrial exist when they fled Ashyn?
  25. Act as a diminisher. That is what you would use if you had a trapped flame spren and wanted to build a fridge.
