  1. Lemme toss this here on the table, where we can all look at it. Seems you don't need a shard to directly set things up. And even if 'most' of the system that weren't directly shard-powered were pre-shattering, that still implies that there are a few post-shattering neutral systems running around.
  2. I think it would act as if it were a very bad alloy. Problem being, we don't know how bad alloys act, feruchemically. I suspect the answer is 'the power exists in theory, but it's currently in an inaccessible state'. Attempting to burn it allomantically would make you sick.
  3. The lord ruler's atium bracers were conspicuously noted as having very little atium in them. As a god metal, I figure atium probably has the highest storage density - and when you can cyclically compound, that's your real limiter.
  4. I had completely forgotten his name, so I frantically flipped back because it sounded like the name from the highstorm. 'Wait Kaladin's dad is... what?'
  5. The Lord Ruler knew about chromium and nicrosil, so those metals still existed as allomantically potent things during his timeframe. That doesn't /necessarily/ imply that there would still be mistings of atium in Alloy Of Law era, but it does limit exactly how much monkeying with metals Sazed may or may not have done. You're thinking of Preservation and Ruin as being 'nice' and 'mean'. They aren't really about that. If Sazed was compelled to do a balancing act, he could preserve one guy's life and simultaneously ruin Justin Beiber's musical career - both 'nice' actions, and in line with each shard's intent.
  6. Really? Who? Keep in mind that all high elves have extremely powerful spirits and can do magical stuff without even trying - they're only nonmagical insofar as they don't consider things like 'seeing the future in a scrying pool' to be 'magic', and find the idea of separating that type of thing out silly. As is, the Lord Ruler has hemalurgy-created holes in any of his mental defenses, and Sauron is *very* good at putting the mindwhammy on people.
  7. I don't see shattering necessarily having a fixed size. Endowment can split off a ton of Divine Breaths willingly, after all.
  8. Well, easy answer is burn lerasium (using some special method to get a different sDNA rewrite) or use hemalurgy. I think the 'rewritten' connection is more for 'Galladon using soulstamps in MaiPon' than 'Galladon using Aons on Scandrial', though.
  9. Yes, but which point in his timeline wasn't specified, and Sauron changes so significantly in terms of abilities, power level, et cetera that you have to treat it seperately. Post-Return of the King Sauron, for example, is basically a tiny ghost with virtually no power at all.
  10. Nah, he's said outright that it's doable in the latest AMA. http://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/1ced7z/iamstilla_novelist_named_brandon_sanderson_ama/c9fs0ea?context=3 There's also this, so it looks like it isn't just 'altering your local symbols to match'
  11. Silmarillion Sauron? Sauron-with-ring?
  12. I'm assuming Fellowship Sauron with his Ring lost somewhere, since that's the only one that doesn't immediately curbstomp the Lord Ruler.
  13. Well, he knows he's going to need to dodge within a few seconds. He taps luck, and picks the right moment based on his intuition, people reading, and experience. Since he's lucky, his gut decision is the right one
  14. If they're not hemalurgic, you've got issues with infection and stuff. If they're hemalurgic, might as well make a hemalurgy blade. Steal physical strength from a kitten or something.
  15. I'm pretty sure wikipedia was copying from coppermind. Anyway, I found my source http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/1729-a-late-breaking-report/

  17. Could be luck.
  18. Which Sauron are you talking? Regardless, I think he takes it. Sauron offers an alternative to Ruin, and he's /very/ good at playing the long game. Especially with people who are obsessed with immortality - Sauron went from 'high security prisoner' to 'personal adviser to the king and policy maker' in a few decades.
  19. Most savants don't have any issues at all, and some (like copper) don't even notice it.
  20. Not sure if this means spattering with blood would work too. Still a bad idea, just less terrible.
  21. Word of Brandon is that compounding identity is basically worthless. You'd be a double gnat.
  22. It's possible to adapt geography-based magic to work elsewhere, but it takes effort to do so, and we don't know any of the details.
  23. It's like remembering. Once you've got a generic formula (this pot was from the old era BTW), it isn't that hard to reapply it to any old pot.
  24. One steel spike seems pretty much the same as any other. Once you've got the soulstamp formula for saying 'by the way this was an inquisitor eyespike', it should work on any of them.
