I just saw that, and it made me smile so much my face hurt! I love this movie, I've seen it so many times, I know every single line by heart. It always makes me happy and I have to laugh a lot. Especially the "Pirates catching Lightning" are so great. And Yvaine and Una... Sorry for the rambling...

@SlowswiftCool! That sounds like a lot of fun. Our family reunions are really boring compared to that. -

Mira nodded and beckoned him to follow her. She led him to small room in which a woman lay. Her leg was sliced opend, only partially healed and pus was leaking out of the wound. It stank and she was sweating, her lids half closed, not even aware that someone entered. "All right. You can always learn something here. If you are willing to help people." She met him with a stare and then turned to the woman. "Look at her. Do you have an idea where to start, what to do?" She then added: "If you don't it's fine. I can show you."

Welcome to the forum! And it's a really good idea to start reading a book of Brandon! A short piece of advice if you haven't read one of his books so far: This place is full of spoilers - for Mistborn and for his other works. You have to be really carefull when you read through the topics! Otherwise you could loose many surprises while reading (or be totally confused).
-
Just read the book and enjoy yourself! It's a great start of Brandon's books and good door opener to the cosmere. Don't worry about all the cosmere theorys and the meta plot behind the scenes. It's not neccessary to know and understand them to love the book. And if you get addicted to Brandon's work and want to understand the meta plot, then you can always reread it to remember every little detail. So just start and tell us if you liked it!

At the counter sat a young man, questioning incoming patients als directing them to the right waiting space. At Hellbents request he looked up and asked him to wait for a minute. He then sent someone to fetch Mira. A short while later Mira entered the room and walked over to Hellbent. She was a short, portly woman wearing a bloddied piece of cloth around her hips. "You want to work here? Do you have any experience with healing?"

I found my picture on pinterest. I was looking for Drageon Age related pins, and stumbled upon it. In Dragon Age Inquisition there tarot cards for each charater and I liked the way people designed their own cards, so I pinned some of them, including the picture I used here. It reminded me of one of my pen and paper characers (a witch called Sheirren focused on spells that evolve about seeing/ mind reading/ discovering). When I looked for an avatar for the forum I first had something Mass Effect themed, but then decided that this one would be better, as it is more general than the typical N7 brand or a picture of Shepard. And as it is based on the tarot cards in Dragon Age and Dragon Age and Mass Effect are related and I am a big fan of both settings, I decided to use it. -

In general a good idea. But Sorana doesn't brew magic potions and I already carry a lot of stuff for the spells I often use with me. And as much as I like Mistborn, Sorana is set in a different universe, with different Symbols, and a different magical theory in the background. I'd like to keep that seperated it bit, keep Soranas setting, Soranas setting. Back to topic: When you hear that the next Halloween party's motto will be Steampunk and decide to come as an allomancer. (We tend to extend the borders of our mottos quite a bit, so that should work. And I was looking for an oppurtunity to make such a costume ) -
Syen ran. She ran as fast as she could, her breathing hard and ragged, her legs burning from, her face a mask of terror and fear. She ran, hearing nothing but her breath and her feet pounding on the uneven ground. It was behind her, she knew that as surely as the colour of the sky, or the smell of peppermint tea. Her left foot landed between two cobbles and with a cry she lost her balance and hit the ground. Without a moment to react, to do something, to defend herself the monster grabbed Syens foot, theet crushed her bone and ripped her muscles away, some sinews hanging in the air like a strange form of snake. It munched, swallowed her foot and she heard some scream, realyzing only after a moment that it was her own voice. Raw and shrill it sounded strange, not at all like her own. Instinktively she used stormlight, tried to do something about her foot, but the monster came closer, towering over her lying, helpless form. His teeth closed around her shoulder and then she heard a loud ripping sound. With a start Syen jerked awake, her hand grabbing her shoulder - it was fine. She pulled up her legs and rested her head on her knees, trying to even out her breath. Her hands shook and she closed her eyes, tried to shut out the fighting, the dying in the city. "A dream," she told herself, "a nightmare, Syen. Calm down." But still, the dream had been so vivid, that she started questioning her words the moment she uttered them, the feeling of the theeth ripping her arm away still sitting deep in her bones. She couldn't visualize the thing that had haunted her, just a nameless terror lurking in the dark. Still shaking she got up and looked around. A cellar. Right. She had brought the old man to the ruins of the wall. It had taken her too long, but in the end she had decided to stop now and then, to knock on doors and tell people to leave the city, and the man could use the breaks. If there was a chance to rebuild, they would need ever pair of hand available, and if not, then she had at least saved a few lives. When she arrived at the few stone left of the wall, she saw that some refugees had gathered there, unsure where to go. Handing the old man over to a few strong looking young men, more children if she was honest, she had told them to move in the direction of the warcamp, as it was the only place she thought she knew where it was. Hopefully someone there could tell them where to go next. Or they could sleep next to it. Anything was better than to stay here. She had turned back to the city, sending a few more on their way, hoping to do something usefull at last. It had taken her a while to recognize the bone deep weariness settling into her bones, the abyess waiting for her under the turmoil of the stormlight she'd inhaled. She had to rest. Even stormlight could let her go on for only so long. And if she used up all her body's reserves now, she would be completely helpless later. Slowly she grabed her bag a reassuring weight in her hand and then on her shoulder. Leaning against a wall she waited until her breathing was slower, and the terror had subsided a bit. "What am I doing here Essun? This is a place for fighters, not for someone like me." she whispered and closed her eyes. "I am nothing but a bad joke." Essun didn't answer and Syen wasn't sure if that was based on the fact that she was right, or that she was being silly. Not that it mattered right now. There were a lot more pressing things. With a sigh she climed up the ladder and, after carefully checking the alley left the house. She knocked on another door and the moment she saw the parents with their almost grown children, an idea formed in her head. She pushed the memory of the dream away, smiled at the people and started talking, convincing. When she left the house the five people behind her left as well, not for the wall, but for the other houses around them. It was riskier, but she alone wasn't able to talk to everybody. While with a little bit help, maybe the citizens themselves could take that over. At least those who survived long enough. In the current situation she expected most of them to die. But for those who got a chance to escape, that chance would hopefully make a difference. She headed deeper into the city, heard the warcries of the reserve and change her course, so that she would head towards them. Stopping now and then to knock and convince a few more of the frightened people to get up and do something.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Sorana replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Thank you =) @Rhapsody I'm sitll thinking what to do with my 16 bottles with allomantic Symbols painted on them. I have a tendency to build a wodden frame and use them for my sewing/ painting/ stiching materials. Then I can see them almost everyday. @Wyndlerunner: Because I was expected to review the playlist for the evening (and I thought that two people picking out songs should be enough and switched to the shard. But I have to admit I was a bit distracted due to the "what do you think of this" next to me @AonEne Everything went fine. It was a bit to hot, but we had great party with family and friends and that was, what I wanted, planed and hoped for. -

When it's the evening before you go to church to marry your husband (we married last year in the town hall and decided to put the whole church stuff a year later) and you still check the shard. (to my defense: everything is ready and prepared) -

A loud screech filled the sky and a shiver crawled over Syens skin. Looking around there were still so many lying here, unable to walk, a lot only a few breaths away from death. Finishing the treatment of the woman in front of her, she stood up, and grabed her bag and her rolling pin. Whatever good she did here, it would never be enough. She remembered her mother's words: "Sometimes you have to decide who to save and who to leave." Turning around she looked at the ruins of the wall, a shiver crawling over her back as the creature screamed another time. She stood there for a few moments, thinking and then made a decision she was sure she would regret. The wall wasn't there anymore, the way out of the city wasn't save, but maybe possible. Staying here was a death sentence for everyone. Leaving the wounded behind she ran back to the houses, cellars wouldn't do for that war, but out of the city the people maybe had a chance. It took her longer than expected to explain the situation to the man and his family whose house she knocked on first, but thankfully afterwards she had more luck, the less stubborn inhabitants had already packed. Syen showed them the way to the ruins of the wall, but then turned back and went to the next row of houses. She knew that a lot of them would die, but that was the nature of things. She could give them a chance to flee and maybe they would come back and help rebuild the city, or maybe they didn't but at least it was their decision. At least they had a chance to make that decision. Grabbing the arm of a teenage boy she looked him into the eyes, handing him a few dull spheres. "I left someone on the shattered plains. If I don't come looking for all of you, could you please send him a message, what happened here?" The boy stared at her with wide eyes, clearly frightened and Syen pushed him in the general direction of the wall. "Go." He stared, then ran away and she shook her head. That would never work. Essun caught her attention, sitting next to the door of a house already empty. Following her, Syen entered the house and looked around. It was empty. Irritated, she shook her head and started to walk out again, when Essun blocked her way. "Don't leave." she ordered and Syen froze in her tracks. Essun seldom ordered her around. "See." the Spren continued and Syen made a grimace. "Essun. Please. Why now? you know that I'm not good with that." "Then listen." Essun snapped and Syen stumbled backwards. Essun wasn't usually so snappy, so bossy. They argued, but not like that. Syen breathed in deeply and looked around. A toy of a girl she had escorted a few minutes ago, a dress of her mother, a knife, clearly belonging to the father. They all had left. Then her eyes fell on a walking stick. A walking stick. Why a walking stick? The truth dawned like the sun in the morning and she opened the hatch that led to the small cellar. An old man sat there staring at her with wide, frightened eyes. "They left him behind." she whispered and reached down, helping the man up. "Those nobody cares about." she said more to herself and felt Essun grow tense next to her. But Syen didn't say another word, although she know Essun waited for another oath. Well, she wasn't ready for that, wasn't even sure if she did the right thing. A part of her still believed, she should be out there with the wounded and not here. Lending the man an arm she walked him over to his walking stick and then accompanied him out of the house. It would take some time, but she wasn't going to leave him behind.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Sorana replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
These are really good news! -
Although he hadn't talked to her in the end Syen pulled out a some spheres and wordlessly offered to hand them over. His last sentences weren't directed at but they felt grave, like a shadow in front of the sun. Without saying another word she knelt next to a wounded man pressing a hand on a deep gash in his leg. Everybody had a role to play and this was hers. Looking after those others forgot or deemed unimportant.

Syen looked up at the sky and saw people fighting. Shooting coins, flying around with stormlight, weapons in their hands. Suddenly she heard heavy footsteps and ducked back into the shadows of a hut, changing her illusion to hide her as good as possible. Two heavyly armed soldiers marched down the alley, their armors similar to those holding the city. She had forgotten how they were called, but it didn't matter right now. They were looking around, suspicious, clearly seaching for something, or someone. Thinking about her option she admitted, that there were few. She couldn't fight them, she couldn't escape. the moment they saw her, her flight was over. So she had to think. Carefully, slowly she turned around, hearing the soldiers come closer and closer every second. Hoping they wouldn't see the light she breathed out stormlight, immediatly shiftig it, giving it a different form. A rat. nothing, but a thick, ugly rat. "Over there. I heard something." One of them said, his voice distorted by his helmet. It sounded maybe too quiet, she couldn't really place it, and it wasn't important right now. She let the rat loose, it scurried over the ground, stopping when it saw the soldiers, sniffing the air, then scuttling away. The two men eyed it suspiciously, then one bumped the other on the shoulder. "You heard a rat. A thick, ugly rat." He let out a bellowing laugh and turned around. "Go rat-hunting alone. I'll look for a worthy enemy." His comarade followed him and not soon after that their footsteps got lost in the overall noise of the battle. Slowly letting out a breath she relaxed a bit and dispersed the rat. Waiting a few more agonizing heartbeats she left her hidingplace and changed her illusion again. Hurrying through the alleys she waved back behind the attacking forces, only stopping to grab a rolling pin from one of the houses. Not so fancy like a sword of a spear or a staff, or any other weapon. But she could try to hit someone with that. "It will be completely useless against anyone wearing some kind of armor? And it will shatter the moment it is hit by a real weapon." Essun reminded her and Syen surpressed the urge to snap at her. "Thanks for pointing out the obvious." she replied instead, unable to keep sarcasm out of her voice. "But maybe they will be so surprised, that I con throw it in their face and run away." Essun didn't reply, but Syen could have sworn her spren was laughing. When she arrived behind the frontline she opened her bag and started doing what she could do best. Walking from one fallen body to the next she carefully healed those who needed help and closed the eyes of those where alls help came too late. Not far from her she saw Elkanah doing the same, then standing up and walking away, clearly looking for something. She stood up, walked over and asked: "Are you looking for something?"

Hearing the wall break Syen hurried around a corner and towards it. Stormlight raged through her and despite the terror that was about to come she felt a certain thrill. Cloaking herself in an illusion she entered the city quietly, slipping away from the fighting, then changed her illusion again. Trying to guess where Solace and his army would enter she started telling the people there to go into their cellars, to get out of the way. She didn't stray too far into the city herself, only went to the houses close to the wall. Thankfully the news had already spread and a lot of the people were already trying to get into safety.

Syen followed the others towards the city, taking a bit longer as she walked there. Seeing Devaan land close to LiTaiRu she changed her course and went there, happy for a few faces she knew at last. Carefully breathing in stormlight she checked her bag again. It wouldn't take long and there would be more work for a healer than she could possible do. She greeted everybody with a smile and a nod, not wanting to disturb the conversation.

I think she has the possibilty to really change something, because she is very determinated and tries to question given standards. But I also see the possibilty that she looses herself to detail, or thinks too far, so that her reign ends, before her desicions were able to fullfill their effect.

Most under appreciated Cosmere Characters
Sorana replied to Ishar's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I definitly agree. Shai still holds the spot of my favourite char. Her character and her reactions were so beautifully crafted. And the bloodsealer was really cool as well. *thumbs up* I'm still not sure if I wanted to drink a cup of coffee, but I love the was she changed and took charge of her life. In addition to the General "Kelsiers Crew" I want to put the spotlight on Breeze. How he worked with his soothers, how his whole apperance was a deception meant to manipulate. He's a genius imo.
