    Aderet took her time going down the stairs, picking up her dress in case there was dust on the floor. They appeared to be in a wine cellar. "Anyone else think it odd that this is what's down here?" she said. "We aren't exactly in the part of the city that deals with producing alcoholic beverages."

    Rene Descartes came to the conclusion that by thinking, therefore you are. So you, Itiah, are. Whether you're here is another question, but at least you can now claim to be one step closer to solving your existential crisis. Unless, you already had taken this into consideration, in which case the real intention of this spoiler tag was to cause you to waste thirty seconds reading this extraordinarily run-on sentence that doesn't seem to want to end even though it has long since used up what little purpose it was intended to have.

    Eve stood with her back pressed to a wall. No one had noticed her and she wasn't about to try to change that. Besides for the practical reasons of invisibility, she also probably looked a mess. It was useful for gaining the trust of the Homeless, but otherwise not so much. Her eyes and ears were glued on the host. The man talking about Investiture. She narrowed her eyes. "Though, now that I think of it, breeding might be..." the man trailed off. People were selectively breeding. To strengthen it. The thought made her feel sick. Not everyone is like you, Eve. she told herself. Not everyone thinks of it the way you do. Either way it was wrong. Light should have known better than to send her. Ought to have. But her friend sometimes forgot about Eve's history. Most of the time it was a good thing - she treated her like she treated everyone. It was just when it caused her to end up to be surrounded by them that it was an issue. She swallowed. She wouldn't let her digust show. She wouldn't. At least...she'd try.

    I believe we must first infiltrate their ranks and take them down from within. Through left-handed scissors. And checkmarks they call "backwards". *grimaces* Can you cut paper? Do you get graphite all over your hands? At the table, do you bump elbows with righties?

    Aderet stayed near the others. The best way to avoid trouble, her governess had always said, was to avoid trouble, but if you are in trouble, then make sure you never are left alone. What was happening could only be described as trouble and she was awful at dealing with trouble by herself.

    Pry had really hoped someone else would come to this conclusion without her nudging, but she appeared to be out of luck. "Not really," she said. "The Hemalurgy itself was legalized. Not the application. We can't very well start making exeptions or everyone will request them. Instead, following what already is in place, we can add a clause to the Hemalurgy section specifying that while the spiking in of Loyalty spikes in legal, the use of it afterwards is not. Am I wrong in presuming that this would not contradict the legalization of Hemalurgy under certain terms and restrictions?"

    She stood. "It specifically says 'No being shall take undue advantage of anybody by use of coercion" under "with regard to Investiture". I can't think of any stronger coercion in relation to Investiture than a Loyalty spike. Unless, of course, you would like to argue that a switching of beliefs done without one's consent is not a form of coercion," she said. "But then again, coercion is by definition the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats. It all depends on what one believes the loyalty affects. The willingness or the ultimate action. If, in the case that it is the ultimate action that determines it, then it does have to be considered a form of coercion." Pry looked to the DA members present. "All I know on the matter is from my sister over this past year, so not all that much. Would you like to enlighten us a bit?"

    "The Investiture clause. It says a person can't be taken advantage of. But spike-ins are legal, meaning someone could be spiked with a Loyalty spike. That constitutes being taken advantage of with Investiture," Pry said, looking directly at him.

    Pry listened carefully while he spoke. It definitely was better than the previous time. There was just one issue. "We have a contradiction."

    Folding up the paper carefully, she got up and handed it to the representative who seemed so eager to get his laws passed. "Enjoy," she said softly before returning quickly to her spot. @Vargo Seldon

    The orange umbrella squid constantly had been confused with rodents of unusual size, so they had decided to come up with a unique acronym that would clear things up.

    Pry copied down everything Keleth said onto the notepad she had with her and began to look over it and make notes every few lines.

    "You do realize what you're saying. We should create a system in which we know there are loopholes, but not close them until they're used," Pry gave him a flat look. "If we can pinpoint what they are, there is no reason to wait until it is abused. Wasting time thinking through every possibility is wasteful, I agree, but to not take any into consideration is..." Idiocy. She wasn't about to say that aloud though. "...unfair to the average resident of the city. We're already risking them by legalizing Hemalurgy; the least we can do is think about their interests."

    "Blood is awfully hard to clean out of fabric," Aderet said, not thinking. Her brain was working on double speed. What were other reasons why shouldn't he kill the other woman? He obviously wouldn't care about a simple stain. "And from carpets. And from wood. Near impossible. As well, murder ranks number two on the master list of things to never do to someone you're supposed to be allied with." Spouting textbooks. That was a new low. Come on Aderet. Someone might die. Death. Right. She took a deep breath, regaining her composure. "We are headed to an unknown land. It isn't mapped. It isn't on any charts. We are going to be alone. We are going to be in danger. We might be already." Aderet thought back to her lessons on diplomacy. "None of us know what's there. None of us know what abilities will be useful. Likely, we are all going to wind up..." Dead. She trailed off. "What I mean to say is, why hurry along the fate that is going to happen anyways?" Not her best work. Not by a long shot. Something about the setting was messing with her. She never was so pessimistic. It was unsettling. Aderet took a small step back, letting her own words sink fully into herself as well.
